  1. I'll take a Sox regular season loss with a Spurs playoff win anytime.
  2. They don't replace them right away but they replenish the system, and if we know that we just signed a lot of potential top prospects in the draft/international market, I think we'd be more able to trade our established prospects in a Cliff Lee like trade.
  3. Good thing the international signing deadline and draft pick signing deadlines are before the trade deadline. We might have a better idea on what prospects we can deal once we know which ones we've signed. (I know we can't trade the ones we drafted yet, but they can replace who we do trade if need be)
  4. I'd say it's a low (really no) risk, medium (potential) reward type scenario.
  5. And June was Lester's best career month I thought.
  6. I'd love to stick it to Tampa and sweep them and try to bury them in the standings but I'd be happy enough if we just win series at this point and win one of the next two. I really like the matchup here as opposed to tomorrow's game, but Tampa has always been a feisty team and never really does go easily.
  7. I'd also try to play Iglesias over Middlebrooks while both of their current trends are in active.
  8. According to Soxprospects, Myles Smith (4th round) and Jake Romanski (14th round) have signed. Running for Myles ‏@thesmith_Wesson 22h Bout to take this nap and then it's off to Bean town Jake Romanski ‏@jakeromanski 12m On my way to boston!
  9. If we can turn one "unlikely to sign" into a "signed" then I think we did a good job. I like our crop of players vs. other teams, but we have to sign as many guys as possible to take advantage of it. We're definitely off to a good start. Do you know what the slot was for Stank's pick? Edit: Stank's slot value was $1,229,600, and we signed him for $1,100,000 so we did save a little on him.
  10. One of my college roommates (a Jets fan) said that he would rather have Sanchez than Flacco. Granted this was a year or so ago so I'm not sure if he feels the same way, but he said that Sanchez troubles and Flacco's strengths were due to their respective quality clubs. Flacco overratedness aside, comparing him to Sanchez??
  11. One thing I was thinking about is the potential of spending too much and losing draft picks. At worst I believe we lose 2 first round picks, right? Therefore we could theoretically sign everyone on the list. While Ball and Denney might be the only first round talents this year, if we let someone like Boldt, Stank and Sheffield go they can go to college and easily become first round talents in a few years. So theoretically signing them now could be worth losing a first round pick in the future. The other thing is that if we lose Ellsbury to free agency we'd gain a first round pick so we'd have another one to play with. I guess my strategy in drafting would be to always take the best player available and overpay to sign them and end up signing 20 or so top 500 players, losing the 2 first round picks and telling the rest of the teams to go f*** themselves. And if you're going to do the same each year then the lack of the first round doesn't mean as much. /Rant
  12. In all fairness if you divide the top 500 by the 30 teams, each team should theoretically draft 16-17 of the top 500. I guess in this new draft some of the top players won't get drafted at all for fears that they won't sign. Also some teams might have extra picks early on, but I don't see having 19 instead of 16-17 as anything special or noteworthy. I guess it depends on how many we sign compared to the other teams.
  13. Depends on how many times Tebow scores per game. And if the score is so lopsided that Belichick is having Tebow be the feature player, then they can obviously afford a few excessive celebration penalties.
  14. It's great to see another Sox win, especially when combined with a division rivals loss. I'm worried about the next two games, especially with Morales originally slated to start on Wednesday. But we do avoid Price/Moore/Hellickson for the series, and I think Cobb is better than Hernandez (Carmona) and Archer so hopefully our offense keeps it up. (At least what at in the beginning and end of the game today)
  15. It's funny how WTF and FTW have opposite meanings. I got dyslexic reading UN's post and assumed something bad happened.
  16. Especially after they got rid of Farnsworth. I'd never fight a team with Kyle Farnsworth on it.
  17. They should coordinate the entire team doing "Tebowing" once he scores.
  18. I wonder if he can pitch at this point.
  19. I feel like every gamethread contains something about how much the refs suck.
  20. I actually like it. (While I'm not technically a Pats fan, I do support them, they just aren't my team) He's a good guy, with a good work ethic, not a criminal, and the Pats are a really good team and have really good personnel that can get the most out of each player. The Pats probably have a plan and a use for Tebow, unlike the circus he was involved in with the Jets.
  21. I think that Rex Ryan and Mark Sanchez are a good example of what happens when players and coaches get too friendly.
  22. Yeah, but I've gone through s*** in my various office positions that I wouldn't wish on anyone, and I'm sure many working stiffs go through worse to get a meager paycheck and come home to their bloated wife and ungracious mongoloid pregnant teenage kids who give them more crap, and instead of a large paycheck they have to piss in the sink because their wife locked themselves in their one bathroom and won't come out until I admit I have a drinking problem.
  23. Having fans is like having millions of really strict parents. You have to live in a bubble and can't make mistakes or else "arm chair quarterbacks" (like message board forum posters) will grill them over every decision, even if they made the "right" call but it didn't work out. Hell, even if they made the right call and it did work out, managers are likely to hear it from some of us. (I think we'd all agree some fans/posters aren't the most logical) Simple freedoms we take for granted, such as saying "f*** the Yankees" or "damn that ump sucks" or telling Jacko to f*** himself, managers don't have. If they say what's on their mind, they can be fined, fired, or both. Then again they get paid a lot so I don't feel bad for them.
  24. Cardinals offense explodes in the extras against the Reds, currently at 7 runs. No real significance other than it just cost me money. I had the Boston offense for the week and the 7 run 10th gave St. Louis more runs for the week so I lost to my boss. Still not as bad as having the Spurs lose today, but still a god awful sports day even with a Sox win. I wish I could hit the reset button. Oh and f*** the Cardinals.
