  1. A -0.4 fWAR guy isn't going to have much trade capital. Get another Max Ferguson type? Sox have enough of those. They need to deal the high value guys, but I'm not sure they really have those.
  2. With Devers' contract, I think it really limits the return you'd get. It also limits the suitors for him. Not sure it's worth having the word out that you were shopping him.
  3. Starting at the 2015 Draft: 2015 0 AS pitchers 10-15, picks included Carson Fulmer, Kaprelian (16th) 2016 0 AS pitchers, Ian Anderson, AJ Puk, Braxton Garrett, Cal Quantril, Matt Manning, Jay Groome! 2017 1 AS pitcher (Rogers), Trevor Rogers, Hunter Greene, Mackenzie Gore, Kyle Wright, Shane Baz 2018 0 AS pitchers, Casey Mize, Ryan Weathers, Grayson Rodriguez, Logan Gilbert 2019 1 AS pitcher (Manoah), Nick Lodolo, Alek Manoah 2020 0 AS pitchers, Max Meyer, Reid Detmers 2021 0 AS pitchers, Sam Bachman 2022 0 AS pitchers (duh), no one has appeared in MLB yet
  4. Interesting notes on the FanGraphs list: Alcantara 9 - (21 SP) is seen as the next Bleis type who could rocket up the charts nationally Bastardo 11 - (36 SP) same age as Wikelman and is outpitching him, FanGraphs likes his 3 above average secondary pitches (SL, CU, CH) Blalock 17 - (43 SP) coming off TJS, this is his Rule 5 year Cespedes 22 - (41 SP) 1.4M Sox signee this year Perales 24 - (8 SP) Rule 5 eligible, may be picked due to relief upside Monegro 25 - (UR SP) "best pitching prospect I saw during extended ST" 5 IP, 8 K, 0 BB, 0 H in 1st FCL start this year Mata 27 - (9 SP) "needs to be put in the pen" Blaze 29 - (16 SP) projected as a big leaguer, but a 1B who doesn't walk or field well
  5. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/boston-red-sox-top-46-prospects-2023/ FanGraphs posted their top 46 for BOS. 1 Marcelo Mayer 20.5 AA SS 2025 55 2 Miguel Bleis 19.3 A CF 2026 55 3 Triston Casas 23.4 MLB 1B 2023 55 4 Ceddanne Rafaela 22.7 AA CF 2024 50 5 Nick Yorke 21.2 AA 2B 2025 50 6 Masataka Yoshida 29.9 MLB LF 2023 45+ 7 Roman Anthony 19.1 A RF 2026 45+ 8 Shane Drohan 24.4 AAA SP 2024 45 9 Marvin Alcantara 18.6 R SS 2027 45 10 Wikelman Gonzalez 21.2 A+ SP 2025 45 11 Angel Bastardo 21.0 A+ SP 2025 45 12 Mikey Romero 19.4 A 2B 2028 45 13 Enmanuel Valdez 24.5 MLB 2B 2023 45 14 Eddinson Paulino 20.9 A+ 3B 2024 40+ 15 Chase Meidroth 21.9 AA 3B 2027 40+ 16 Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz 19.8 A SP 2026 40+ 17 Bradley Blalock 22.5 A SP 2025 40+ 18 Wilyer Abreu 24.0 AAA RF 2023 40 19 Chris Murphy 25.0 MLB MIRP 2023 40 20 Brandon Walter 26.8 AAA MIRP 2023 40 21 David Hamilton 25.7 AAA SS 2023 40 22 Yoeilin Cespedes 17.8 R 2B 2029 40 23 Brainer Bonaci 20.9 A+ 2B 2024 40 24 Luis Perales 20.2 A SIRP 2025 40 25 Yordanny Monegro 20.7 R SP 2026 40 26 Ryan Fernandez 25.0 AA SIRP 2024 40 27 Bryan Mata 24.1 AAA MIRP 2023 40 28 Luis Guerrero 22.9 AA SIRP 2025 40 29 Blaze Jordan 20.5 A+ 1B 2025 40 30 Juan Daniel Encarnacion 22.2 A+ SIRP 2024 40 31 Chih-Jung Liu 24.2 AA SIRP 2024 40 32 Ronaldo Hernández 25.6 AAA C 2023 40 33 Cutter Coffey 19.1 A SS 2028 35+ 34 Stephen Scott 26.1 AAA C 2024 35+ 35 Jedixson Paez 19.4 A SP 2026 35+ 36 Luis Cohen 20.0 R SP 2027 35+ 37 Enderso Lira 19.7 A C 2026 35+ 38 Corey Rosier 23.8 AA LF 2025 35+ 39 Allan Castro 20.1 A CF 2025 35+ 40 Noah Dean 22.3 A SIRP 2026 35+ 41 Christopher Troye 24.3 AA SIRP 2024 35+ 42 Alex Hoppe 24.5 A+ SIRP 2026 35+ 43 Joey Stock 25.8 A+ SIRP 2025 35+ 44 Dalton Rogers 21.4 A+ MIRP 2026 35+ 45 Tyler McDonough 24.2 AA CF 2025 35+ 46 Jhostynxon Garcia 20.5 A CF 2027 35+
  6. If Jack Leiter, a college player, went #1 overall in that draft, nobody would have blinked an eye. But in 20/20 hindsight that's just the relative safety that certain scaredy cat small bean teams need to run towards... Jeez. If Leiter fell to the Sox, half of you would have had to wipe your computer screens afterwards. If the Sox passed on Leiter, there would have been a watch at the Tobin. Gimmie a break... The only issue was the Pirates selecting Henry Davis at #1.
  7. Agreeing with a wrong post as some posters are wont to do.
  8. Jackson Jobe was taken at #3 and was a High School player. The literal guy right before him as I said in my post.
  9. Which ones? TEX was always going to take Leiter.
  10. Nah. Leiter was never mentioned. I heard Lawlar and House.
  11. Eh, I don't buy it that much. There was a little bit of concern, but it wasn't like OMG THIS GUY IS UNSIGNABLE. Pirates went with the underslot college guy as the Pirates cheapskates do. Also, it's good for business to spread money around in the draft anyway, especially since you get more money depending on where you draft. Rangers wanted Leiter and were going to take him at 2 no matter what. It was just the Tigers taking Jobe for 6.9M instead of Sox taking Mayer for 6.66M. Jobe was hitting 99MPH in High School and already had a plus slider. Since it's such a crapshoot, you can't say the Tigers passed on Mayer "due to signability" when they also went for an overslot prep guy and one who took more money than Mayer did anyway.
  12. There are only a lucky few TalkSoxers who see Marlins gear at their local Target.
  13. Arraez was a 3 fWAR player. He wasn't Mike Trout. He has a career -18 OAA at 2B, his natural position.
  14. That's the roster Bloom built. He bet on the upside, but is getting the downside too.
  15. Luzardo has really struggled against RHB this season and is close to being done with ARB for that valuation. Garrett is too much of a soft tosser for me. Rogers is currently rehabbing an injury and took a huge step backwards last season. Cabrera just walks the park. Not saying that I wouldn't deal for those guys, just that Lopez was the better get there.
  16. The offense will have ups and downs. If the pitching comes around it will be HUGE.
  17. Seems that you glob onto that part, but NOT the positivity horn or all the other stuff? Wonder why?
  18. Cowser is 3 years older than Mayer. Give Mayer 3 more years in MiLB and see how well he hits at AAA. There's a big difference in how quickly college bats and high school bats can progress through a system.
  19. I'm not sure what the Sox would even have to sell. Duvall? Paxton? Turner? Maybe Paxton has the best value there if he's still healthy. Dealing one of the relievers that you have multi-year control over seems like a silly idea if you want to compete next season unless the prices are crazy. They had better pieces last year and didn't do any deals. Why would they be more likely to deal this time around?
  20. Good turns from the starters this series. At least we’ll get a day off from Stork tomorrow.
  21. Just wait until part III!
  22. Was 300M an underpay for Gerritt Cole’s father?
  23. Punch and Judy hitter. The lineup is stacked. He's being benched in favor of Matthew Lugo and Phillip Sikes, two guys with potentially higher ceilings. Now that Stephen Scott has been called up, it's one less everyday guy to make room for.
  24. @SoxProspects Catcher Stephen Scott and outfielder Tyler Dearden have been promoted to Triple-A Worcester. Scott is currently #35 on the #SP60. He's slashed .248/.369/.448 over 149 PA this season.
  25. Quite the saga.
