  1. They replaced a star with a high caliber prospect. If the Sox were replacing Xander with Mayer in '23, nobody would have cared. The problem there is Mayer started '23 in A ball, not in Boston.
  2. There was a rumor that someone else was going to swoop in and buy the O's, but I have no idea if the Angelos even wants to sell. The stadium lease was just extended, so they won't be getting that sweetheart Braves deal for a bit longer that Angelos wanted.
  3. It has nothing to do with the thoughts about job security (probably a perceived issue) or ultimate power of a CBO vs EVP's (I'm dubious on this).
  4. Sam is a freakin' idiot. (term initially used by moon the day Chris Sale was traded back in 2016)
  5. Until we get quotes concerning the "widely-held industry doubts" I think the family considerations and less stress due to the other markets legitimately the biggest reason people are passing.
  6. He was pushed to the pen in SF under Bailey. If Bailey liked him, we would have heard a rumor or two. We didn't.
  7. James Outman 4.4 fWAR - preARB I think we'd all replace Corey Bellinger with that.
  8. And they replaced Corey Seager with Gavin Lux, not Miguel Rojas. Lux just got injured.
  9. They cut costs SO THAT THEY COULD SPEND ON OHTANI AND YAMAMOTO. Everyone knew they were going to get Ohtani. They already had Betts and Freeman. I don't think Doyers fans were worried about why the front office was cutting costs. They knew what train was coming.
  10. Since the Sox won't likely be competitive for a title until '26 or later, being a Dodger fan from 19-26 and maybe beyond is the better bet.
  11. "Well, actually, THAT World Series title doesn't count because it hurts my argument!!!"
  12. They've spent a lot, been competitive every year AND have won a WS.
  13. I sure as s*** can count him.
  14. Because it's the easiest for us as Red Sox fans to conceptualize.
  15. This is ********. If you look at the 4 Red Sox WS champs, they all had really great starting rotations that stayed relatively healthy except for miscellaneous baby attacks.
  16. Jordan Montgomery: 11 G 2.79 ERA 1.094 WHIP 2.90 ERA in the playoffs Red Sox perennial 1b Nasty Nate was also damn electric in the playoffs. Probably could consider the Rangers having two aces.
  17. They could take baby steps as a team, put a better product on the field and still wind up with a worse record IMO.
  18. Volques and Ventura both had the same fWAR that year as BOS Wade Miley: 2.7. Young, Duffy, Volques, Guthrie all had shine at one point in their career, but they never were TOTR guys.
  19. Nate was 4th in CY voting. Led the league in FIP. He was really f***ing good that year.
  20. They can get into the postseason, but they'd have no shot. None. Pitching wins in the postseason. It's a big reason they got their last 4 titles. When they've had lesser rotations, they haven't made a dent in the postseason. The only team to win the World Series in the past 30 years without an ace was the Kansas City Royals in 2015 (3rd ranked pen in '15, 1st ranked defense).
  21. Without the guy at the top, what's the point in getting to the playoffs? You're dead meat!
  22. Wooly Bully indeed.
  23. It works IF you have the right reliever and IF the starter is ok with his routine being changed. Baseball players are creatures of habit. See Brayan Bello pitching well at night, but horribly during the day.
  24. $.49 Ross sales?
