  1. Who picks the groceries?
  2. Wrong. Good teams LOSE to bad teams all the time. That the Sox went out to the West Coast and won 7 of 10 is a good thing. Last year's team wouldn't have come back 7-3. This year, the pitching looks better and the defense looked better prior to Story going down.
  3. @tylermilliken_ Reese McGuire’s numbers through 9 games: 26 PA .333/.385/.625/1.010 2 HR, 1 2B 8 RBI 187 wRC+ 0.4 fWAR Last season in 72 games, he finished with an 0.5 fWAR and had 16 total RBI. Reese almost matching his last year's fWAR in 10 games. I get the Reese's candy bar, if you read that name Reese's that's an apostrophe-S. Reese-apostrophe-S, on the end of that name. That means the candy bar is his, I didn't know that! Next time you're eating a Reese's candy bar and a guy name Reese comes by and says "Let me have that," you'd better hand it over. "I'm sorry, Reese, I didn't think I'd ever run into you! You're a f***in' bully, man! Let me at least have a piece!"
  4. Red Sox are now projected to go 82-80 per FanGraphs and have a higher playoff chance than the Jays. https://www.fangraphs.com/standings/playoff-odds
  5. AZ just went 1-5 against ATL/NY. C'mon man! Fix the damn rankings!
  6. So far, the Sox have been much better than they were last year. In 2023, they were just pathetic; ranked 30th in the league with -50 OAA. With Story going down, the defense is going to take a little bit of a hit again and Devers too since Devers relies on a strong SS to help his deficiencies. Sox clearly punted on 2B. Casas has been Casas. He can be better and really needs to be if he wants to get PAID. The Catching is what it is and McGuire seems much more healthy than he was last year when his defense slid a bit. No complaints about the OF rotation of Rafaela/O'Neilll/Duran/Abreu. @redsoxstats Duran in the first Red Sox player to qualify for the Outfielder Jump Leaderboard, and he's initially ranked 7th of 35 qualified. 14th/35 Reaction 3rd/35 Burst 10th/35 Route
  7. Good one! Counsell just got 5/40. Cora only makes 3M.
  8. @alexspeier As the Sox near their home opener, Cora was asked about last year’s struggles at Fenway. He said the team has struggled at home since ‘19 (with the exception of ‘21). Asked for a cause, he cited … bad pitching, bad defense, bad baserunning, bad hitting, and a lack of atmosphere. The GOAT stated that it's not an uncomfortable place to play for visitors anymore. That Sweet Caroline coming on when you're down by 7 "doesn't sound great." Because the draw of "Fenway" as a destination, it has a lot of visiting fans which takes away the homefield advantage. He said that changes when it gets to October, probably referencing '21. Fenway definitely isn't the advantage now that it probably felt like 20 years ago when things were running hot. Fan interest is bound to wax and wane, but ownership has done this team no favors since 2019.
  9. The Dollop did a great podcast on Rickey Henderson which was fantastic. They also did ones for Bill Lee and Satchel Paige.
  10. Rickey should have hit lefty. WTH?
  11. Bello is the 5th starter confirmed.
  12. Bank the wins when you are playing bad teams. I think it would have been hard for them to come away with a better record than this.
  13. Does Bello owe you money? How could you talk about him like that?
  14. They are waiting for Refsnyder to get healthy.
  15. The defense is better that way as it puts Rafaela as a solid SS and Abreu is subbed at a corner OF spot. There is less of a defensive drop off doing that than putting Reyes at SS or the worst option of Hamilton at SS.
  16. Hamilton is a bad SS tho. If his bat works at the MLB level, he'll still need a different position. Field: Inconsistent footwork and fringy range at shortstop. Can make the routine play, but there are concerns about how he would adjust to the speed of the major league game there. Has shown a tendency to rush plays and has trouble fielding the ball on the run. Looks more comfortable and profiles better at second base. Hands work and has shown solid range there. Footwork is sloppy second as well, but is within the more forgiving margin for error at that position than at shortstop. Speed and athleticism might be best suited for center field, where he has played on occasion in 2022 and 2023. Potential below-average defender at shortstop and average defender at second base. I think Romy should have been the call up.
  17. When you draft HS SS, it takes a long time for them to develop. Also, Yorke was NOT a SS. Even at the time he was drafted, people assumed he was a 2B.
  18. Early, a guy I'm probably too high on, looked great his first time out for GRE on Saturday. Player of the Day: Connelly Early needed just 55 pitches to get through four shutout frames in Greenville's loss to Greensboro. Boston's fifth-round pick in the 2023 draft out of the University of Virginia, Early is currently the 47th-ranked prospect in the system. The 6-foot-3 left-hander has a potential plus changeup while mixing in a curveball and cutter to accompany his low-90s fastball. I like his starter profile better than a lot of the other guys that Chaim drafted.
  19. Criswell has seemed to lock up the 6th spot in the rotation. 1.06 WHIP .599 OPS 9 K 3 BB 10.1 IP
  20. Contreras has 7 SB in 8 games. Previous high is 23.
  21. I’m no fan of the Ham.
