  1. My guess is that posters here would be upset if the Sox only signed Gray and now Gray was out (see: complaints about Grissom).
  2. Gray is a good pitcher. He's older. With his contract, you need about 3 fWAR, but he has better upside than Giolito. He only averaged 128 innings in 21-22. He's not quite the picture of health. Giolito was at least thought to be more of a sure thing for INNINGS. Well, they bet wrong. Time will tell if the Gray contract is bad or not.
  3. No, it's allowed here. We do it all the time.
  4. Signing only one guy was obviously not enough. It left them vulnerable to ANY injury. If it wasn't to Giolito, it was to Whitlock, Houck or anyone else. At any point, one guy going down via injury or ineffectiveness would be disastrous for the rotation. By artificially capping the budget, Henry truly f***ed this team. He might think he was being smart with his money, but I don't see it that way. He'd make much more if the team was successful.
  5. That's because you're a boomer.
  6. He wasn't great in 2019. Missed time in 2022 and was just ok. I think we all just really remember 2021.
  7. Since I brought it up, it's NOT pointless.
  8. 19M is about 2.4 fWAR? Seems not entirely unreachable for a healthy Giolito.
  9. The 6th highest AAV given out to a pitcher this offseason. I would have rather paid ERod. Montas got 1/16 and nobody has an idea on what he's going to be like after his last injury. Lugo doesn't have a long track record of starting and he got 15 AAV. Flaherty got 1/14 and was considered far behind Giolito. I'm not sure the Sox really overpaid. It's just what the market rate is for FA pitchers. It's a lot!
  10. They gave up. It's over.
  11. Thank you for whipping that reference out.
  12. I'm going to have to check my slide rule on that.
  13. It made too much sense to sign Montgomery, but they went and got Dollar General Montgomery instead. IDK. It's not how I'd run a franchise. Giolito was fine if you're hoping for him to be a 3rd/4th starter, but the Sox needed more.
  14. 2019 - 7/23/23 (when he left CHW): 3.85 ERA 3.77 xFIP Averaged 5.8 Innings per start I'd take that from him all day.
  15. Signing Giolito wasn't an issue. Not signing anyone better was.
  16. Yes, he shouldn't have been the best pitcher acquired. There was a significant chance that he wouldn't outpitch Bello, Pivetta, Crawford aside from INNINGS.
  17. 50% is like the success rate of FA contracts.
  18. I was thinking that Bloom didn't make any similar moves, but there was the Whitlock extension. Not sure why he didn't try to extend Raffy earlier. There weren't really many other notable guys around that were in need of extending during his tenure.
  19. Keep it in your pants buddy.
  20. *Insert Dramatic Chipmunk from 2007*
  21. Grissom Meidroth to A's Blackburn Boyle
  22. Neris is very much overpaid.
