Triston Casas said he has not re-engaged in extension talks with the Red Sox as of yet. “I don’t know if they’re trying to finalize (Bello), but there have really been no talks, no developments, whatsoever”
Not trading Paxton was really DUMB.
The only guys I'd look to trade early on would be O'Neillll, Martin and Jansen. I think you need Pivetta for the innings and if he's pitching well you extend him for 2 more years.
I feel like they'd DFA Dalbec to put Cron on the 40 man. No other reason to add him. If they are pushing pitchers to the 60 day IL, why replace them with hitters?
More likely they add Joely and Luetge.
There are some decent comps out there, but the money should be manageable. With Bello, you hope for his stuff to tick up after the extension and that you are underpaying a healthy #2 for 7 years or whatever.
Giolito noted that he would love it if Clevinger came to the Sox and said he would advocate for him. I just hadn't heard anything aside from "baseball insiders believe Clevinger is a good fit for the BoSox because they are cheap and need starting pitching help."
If any team wants to sign them, they are free to do so. The Sox could sign Bauer, Urias, Clevinger and German if they wanted to. Hard to put that on a lame duck manager though.
Unfortunately, Henry doesn't see it that way. He only wants to spend once they are a true playoff contender. Fans just take it on the chin over and over again.
That's true, but when you are signing a guy like Montgomery, it's hopefully not just for one year of production. Sox would really need his production in 2025 when the young studs are supposedly going to be ready to contribute. Can't always put off the FA signings until next year as the right guys may not be available then.
LOL, wut?
"however, one name stands out as having not come up in the rumor mill at all to this point in the winter: veteran right-hander Mike Clevinger."
You got a link? I couldn't find anything connecting them.
