The book will go around and pitchers will just not give him much to hit or put it where he can't get any power behind it when it gets in play.

MLB '23: 241 AVG, 281 OBP, 667 OPS, 8 XBH in 28 G. Is there an XBH/G stat I should be following? If he can't get that OBP above 300 at the MLB level, it's not great.

I think Anthony will still progress as a CFer for now. It should get him ready to play RF in Fenway someday or take over for Rafaela if Rafaela's bat doesn't develop at all. Has Dalbec only played 1B this spring?

Abreu is very athletic and has a really good arm. I'm not sure where to put Duran since runners tag up from 2B on him when he catches fly balls in LF.

I don't think they'll extend Pivetta, but if he really shows off his sweeper again, he could make a good payday in FA. Whitlock just has not be impressive at all since his injury in '22. Sox need to figure him out. I don't know why they are screwing around with him. Fitts isn't slotted as the #7 right now. I was just bringing him up as a guy that could be something eventually. I agree with the guys you have ahead of him, but don't think Wikelman or Gambrel pitching this year means disaster. They're already slotted for last place. I'm not sure giving other guys emergency starts or Wikelman advancing to MLB earlier than expected is a bad thing.

Need a different owner to do that. Rafaela is a good, not great, player. There's no harm to the player or the fans. 80% of Sox fans won't notice if he's not there in April.

Sox are looking at Houck/Whitlock/Crawford and thinking that they can give them what Lorenzen can do for much less cost. I just don't think Whitlock is going to workout and they are going to need SOMEBODY to fill innings. Reports out of MiLB camp are very good about Fitts, but that's not an option until much later this season if at all.

Well, you can't DH for him so the argument is that it's going to take him longer to reach MLB since his offensive eye is well behind where it needs to be. Aggressive approach that still needs refinement. Does not walk much and expands the strike zone often, but has the bat control to put the ball in play, leading to a lot of weak contact on pitches outside the zone rather than the strikeouts that might otherwise result from a similar approach. Will expand the zone particularly often against secondary pitches, so a key for him will be laying off those down and out of the zone, as those are pitches he has struggled with in the minors and what he is likely to see frequently in the majors until he proves he will lay off them. Potential fringe-average hit tool. Is it better to train him up in AAA as much as you possibly can or just throw him to the wolves? Every player is different, but he didn't hit very well in his brief MLB appearance at the end of last season. ST stats don't mean all that much in the grand scheme of things.

Casas had 359 AAA PA's before appearing in BOS. Rafaela is well behind that at the moment and is a much less advanced hitter.

It's an 824 OPS and many AB's have come against non-MLB pitching. His blast yesterday came against Uwasawa who has been awful every time out this spring.

Rafaela should be the Opening Day CF, but won't be. They'll send him down to AAA for a month to get an extra year of control. Why waste a year of control on a year that doesn't matter?

Yorke was a reach in the first round and Romero was a whatever pick. Guys who came right after Yorke: Pete Crow Armstrong Jordan Walker The pitchers drafted in the first round after Yorke haven't done anything worthwhile yet.

I'm just saying that there is a scenario where the Sox should take a hitter over a pitcher in the upcoming draft. Just because there is an extreme lack of talent, doesn't mean they have to go 2021 Angels and load up on pitchers in the upcoming draft. They just need to stop completely ignoring them.

It hinges on having an effective starting rotation. Not sure what the plan is on getting there. We have theories, but haven't seen any action yet.

Risk of injury. Quicker to build up farm value through less risky bats.
