It worked in 2004. It worked in 2007 (9 out of top 10 salaries came from outside the org). It worked in 2013 (they don't win w/o FA infusion). It worked in 2018 (#1 in payroll).

@EdHand89 Portland Sea Dogs shortstop Marcelo Mayer currently leads the Eastern League (AA) in hits (60), extra-base hits (26), doubles (20), and runs scored (43). He's also fourth in AVG (.305), sixth in SLG (.484), and eighth in OPS (.861) and stolen bases (11).

10 day IL. I posted elsewhere that an MRI showed inflammation, but he should be fine after rest.

I believe he can be sent up and down 3 more times this season. He has to make the Opening Day roster next season for be DFA'd.

@alexspeier Abreu says an MRI revealed a lot of inflammation in the ankle. He just needs to rest and let the swelling subside. He’s hopeful he won’t need more than 10 days.

Yup. The Sox added Price because they wanted to get under the cap. They didn't need to. He ended up opting out of 2020 anyway and the Sox would have reset.

1. Rusney was on the books, but didn't play a role at all in the 2018 championship. 2. The Nate deal after the fact has no relation to the championship that was already won. If they went to the WS in 21, it would have put a nicer shine to Nate's deal. Otherwise, it's one very good year and not much else IMO. 3. I thought Scherzer was a better signing than Lester at the time. He was a much better signing than the confusing double 3b signing of Pablo and Hanley that made zero sense at all. Bloom really fumbled the bag after 2013.
