  1. Sometimes, it's just not my day.
  2. This is a misattributed quote!!! I didn't say this.
  3. Flyball pitcher who gives up pulled HR's like he's Kutter Crawford in '24. Surely the Sox can take advantage of Andrew Painter!
  4. Contreras 24th Abreu 31st Those are the only good hitters on the team.
  5. If they trade Chapman AND Whitlock, that bullpen is going be really, really bad next season. The end of this year would be tank city.
  6. Even then, why? Trout's money is HUGE. Masa is only paid through the end of '27. Most teams wouldn't want to take on the end of Trout's deal as we're getting close to a lot of dead money as he ages. He's paid $35M+ annually and he's only been worth that in a single season since '19 (one season above 3 fWAR). Just because he looks good today doesn't mean the typical season ending Trout injury isn't popping up tonight or next week. Why are we excited to pay for his age 38 and 39 seasons?
  7. I think the hope was that the younger players improve and provide lift to the lineup. That clearly hasn't happened. Also, younger players have a wide variance in their performance early on in their careers. It should have been anticipated that everything would be smooth.
  8. I like Contreras more than Alonso FWIW. I don't have a problem with what they did at 1b. 3b is a problem. OF/DH is a problem. SS is a problem.
  9. The line in the sand was the not trade clause. If Brez sucks it up and adds the no trade clause, Breggie comes back regardless of how he handled the negotiations prior to that point.
  10. You don't need to explain to me. I was just stating what Brez was probably thinking. He clearly thought just running it back with one bat addition would be good enough.
  11. Sending money FOR Trout's contract. Crazy.
  12. I mean, it seems clear that Bregman should have been brought back. His leadership was more important to growing the younger players than just his production on the field. Teaming him with a big bat across the diamond in Contreras should have given the offense enough of a lift. I know Bregman isn't looking great now, but the team around him is. Interesting!
  13. The goal was playoffs for sure. Brez probably thought a better rotation would get them further (Gio missed the playoffs, Bello pitched poorly). Now the goal is simply get back to respectability.
  14. Story is now in his LAD negative WAR Nomar phase. They were at least smart enough to move him off SS.
  15. Traded in his year 30 season. So Story's 2023 season, if Story didn't have a huge financial commitment attached to him.
  16. Breslow should have tipped him off that he wanted to get rid of Cora at some point so that maybe he considered opting out. Missed opportunity.
  17. But the problem with the Sox right now is that the majority of the lineup isn't producing. Contreras and Abreu have been great. Rafaela has been good enough. Everyone else has been disappointing. If those players had simply played to expectations, not to a start level, this team's record would look like last season.
  18. I don't care about the years already under control (arb years). The only years that matter during the extension are really the years after initial control ends! The cash doesn't matter. Only AAV matters. If they go any higher this year, they'll get draft pick penalized. Yuck! You don't want to get rid of him TODAY. TOMORROW?
  19. If the Sox eat a substantial portion of his contract, they could deal him back to COL. They have a horrible SS and nobody in the minors. Story could then retire there.
