  1. Have the Sox done anything more than add bullpen pieces at the deadline the past 4 deadlines? I don't remember. If you're ONLY concerned with this year, you're not going to be running the organization in the best way possible.
  2. Being a buyer every season leads you to another 2020 where you have no depth and aging players on long term contracts. Not sure Henry has the appetite for it anyway. Constantly sending off prospects for bullpen pieces in July is a terrible way to run a franchise.
  3. The 2022 Red Sox were 4 games under .500 at the end of May and held a WC spot in the middle of July, but spiraled over the next two weeks. I wanted a complete fire sale at the start of the season. The team kinda sold, but not really and ultimately ended up 78-84. The 2023 Red Sox were 1 game above .500 at the end of May and had the final WC spot at the end of July. The team bought crap and ended up 78-84 because they ended their season going 9-23. Neither team felt worthy of adding to. This team has some fun moments, but really feels more aligned with those teams TBH.
  4. If I'm buying, I'm buying for the future, not a guy with a one or two year contract.
  5. I've heard the "2 games out of WC" argument for several years ever since the playoffs expanded. This year, the Sox are 5 games under .500 and are the 10th best AL team. This isn't a team you are adding to. It should be EMBARRASSING that they are behind the Twins and the ChiSox considering where those two franchises are at. One bat isn't going to fix this team. They need several bats to turn their season around.
  6. Per the boxscore, it was a single. Dom Smith also had a Little League HR last night (3b and an E).
  7. Should not be a HR. Should be a 1B and an E. Official scorers are horrible now.
  8. Roman and Crochet were worth the extensions because of their ceilings. You can debate the other ones for sure.
  9. If Fenway is not packed, they don't get the revenue share if they are under the luxury tax. The first $3.5 million funds player benefits. Half of the remaining sum is then used to fund contributions to MLBPA players' individual retirement accounts. The other half of the remaining sum is then distributed by the commissioner to payee clubs that have grown their non-media net local revenue over a multi-year period. This incentivizes clubs to increase ticket sales, fan engagement, and other revenue generators that most likely rely on increasing payroll, rather than under the old system which allowed teams to not increase payroll and still collect from tax payers.
  10. It seemed to be that it was Ranger or Bregman, not IKF/Sandoval/10M or Bregman. They pivoted to Ranger right after missing out on Bregman. Don't think the smaller contracts played into it.
  11. I haven't heard the "final boss" part. I won't make you go find a quote. I'll try to listen to him more intently going forward. To me, he's just awkward and unfriendly, but not intentionally rude or smug. Whatever. It doesn't matter. I don't care about his personality. I care that this team is in the toilet because of him.
  12. Delay 166 Innings Thaiss 125 Innings Gasper 86 Innings Montero 0 Innings
  13. Was Houser being sent to the pen? He had a 2.10 ERA prior to being traded. He also pitched much better down the stretch than May did!
  14. Teams that don't like said pitchers and don't want those pitchers anywhere near the playoffs!
  15. Red Sox may be back to last place before the top of the hour if the O's hold onto their lead.
  16. How many were "offered" the job and declined. Now THAT is moving the goalposts. Might as well call Breslow the 13th candidate. The 12th candidate was the goalpost!

  18. That Matz trade was a good trade. He also wasn't traded for a top 10 prospect. I'm just saying the Dustin May trade wasn't a typical deadline deal, while you contend that it was.
  19. People in Brookline didn't slap him enough growing up. Gen X was too busy drinking water from the hose to do what needed to be done in the 1980's: bully Sam Kennedy.
  20. I would also expect that the researchers would say that Story probably has built more than enough muscle mass to stave off osteoporosis and typical bone loss. These studies don't say that it's the muscles that provide cushion from a fall ("more muscles would mean more padding on impact"). It's the working out that builds strong bones. I'm sure Story has done enough working out per the studies.
  21. You believe anything Sam says? Honestly?
