  1. O's replacing Burnes with Morton was definitely a choice.
  2. Bregman has been swing the bat well the whole time he's been here. Campbell is a friggin monster.
  3. This is as far back as I felt like going to get to a jersey related thread. Here is a leak for the new City Connects.
  4. That's all I'm saying! 😭
  5. Pitchers: Sandlin Early Monegro I'm higher on Early than the other two. Monegro is exciting to watch on the field but has a lower ceiling. Hitters: Romero Jhostynxon That's it for now and the only new addition from the end of last season is Monegro, I believe. Midseason callups: Jedixson Paez Payton Tolle? Juan Valera? Justin Riemer could be a little Chase Meidroth-ish. Nelly Taylor is a great OF defender and started swinging the bat well at the end of last season.
  6. I believe the Braves can break the 0-7 curse now that the playoffs have expanded.
  7. There was speculation that Gunnar would be back for the O's today. He's still out of the lineup.
  8. Houck is NOT a bullpen arm. He's a good starter. Whitlock is a good to great bullpen arm.
  9. After one decent game, he's at 107 wRC+, his highest as a Red Sox.
  10. And your excuse for this year is "he's still tired from last season."
  11. I'd argue that 2020 is meaningless as the book hadn't gotten around on Houck. 2021's performance is so far in the past that I don't know how it leads any credence to how he'll pitch today. The three previous seasons are more important to me. Prior to that, everything is much less important. Hey, I'm a Red Sox fan first and foremost. I hope I'm wrong and that Houck can pitch like the first half of 2024 going forward. It just doesn't seem likely at this point. Until he starts striking guys out again, I won't be holding my breath.
  12. I hope they aren't relying on Nestor for too much is all I'm saying.
  13. https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/BOS/BOS202408280.shtml Bello threw 8 innings of shutout ball against the Jays on Aug 28. Sox offense could have hit a little better in that one, but seems fairly comparable.
  14. 2022 as a starter: 4.32 ERA, 4.15 xFIP 2023 as a starter: 5.01 ERA, 4.07 xFIP 2024 as a starter 1st half: 2.54 ERA, 3.16 xFIP 2024 as a starter 2nd half: 4.23 ERA, 4.37 xFIP Seems to me that 2nd half Houck was more similar to '22 and '23 starter Houck than you are letting on. I think we are far enough removed from '20 and '21 that they have little bearing on Houck going forward. It's fine if he's a midrotation guy. xFIP takes all the nonsense away from your bad defense argument.
  15. They were 20th in the league last year and dumped Devin Williams. They are not a good pitching team.
  16. The same thing that makes you think his stuff is better than his numbers. He had a fast start to 2025, but everything has dipped back since then. To me, his stuff doesn't look like pre-July 2024. He's not generating k's the way he was. It seems that either the book got out or he got worse. Whatever the reason, he just hasn't been the TOTR guy that a lot of people were projecting. I think he's still a solid pitcher and better than other options they have.
  17. We're guaranteed another 3-4 hours of happiness for now anyway. Today's game is an early start. Going back to Fenway winning this series would be big for the Feelings Department.
  18. Ok, so you agree that he's a midrotation guy, but still wanted to argue about it. Cool. I have no problem with Houck. He had a great run at the start of 2024, but I don't know if we'll see a lengthy stretch like that again from him.
  19. Volpe is 4-20, 4 HR in 5 G. I hope he hits 100 HR this year, but only has 100 H.
  20. At least they brought back the good ketchup, right?
  21. Disagree. That post ASB ERA/FIP was about what it was the year prior as a fulltime starter. I just think that's the performance we should expect out of him as a starter.
