  1. They got very lucky in previous years (2013 for example) and now we're just seeing the other side of the coin. Even the success in 2021 had a lot to do with luck: 2b was a mess, Kiké career year, last Dalbec hot stretch, career high in RBI for Renfroe, Nasty Nate's best season, Barnes, Sawamura and Taylor all fell apart after 2021.
  2. Sure, if that's all you can get. I was just saying "best suited" like if you could draw it up in a lab or whatever.
  3. I just don't see a bottleneck situation in MIF considering all the injury issues and Grissom's production issues. I think it'll work itself out. There is a little bottleneck in the OF, but that could be cleared up if they just made Duran the fulltime CF and made Rafaela a UTIL guy which could make sense if they don't believe his bat will ever get to 700 OPS. Also, not every prospect is able to be a productive MLBer. Also also, too much is made about fungible guys like Romy and Hamilton. You can move on from them really easily. They don't have a backup 1B. They don't have a backup 3B. Maybe they use some of these guys to fill that spot somehow. Cespedes is most likely not a MIF. He also hasn't even played in Salem yet. How he factors into any conversation right now is confusing for me. Per SoxProspects, Arias isn't expected to reach MLB until 2028. That's quite a long time to figure something out.
  4. I don't know how much value Hamilton has. I'd deal him and not think about it for a second. I don't know what trade value Romero, Jhostynxon or Perales have. Those are probably the 3 highest valued in the top 20 outside the big 4 that the Sox would consider trading. I don't think they'd deal Montgomery. Others are too far away to have much value.
  5. Yeah, he's been a roller coaster. He's a 4 seam guy. May be best suited as a team's #2 like Houck?
  6. Maybe DET doesn't see itself as a playoff team going forward? Maybe they think the infusion of young talent would help their poor offense (21st ranked wRC+) and extend their window?
  7. If the Sox fixed his splitter, he'd go back to being a successful starter. However, Sox need a starter that is better than a reclamation Jordan Montgomery. They already have Giolito. Why have both?
  8. The Rays would hold onto Duran for two more years though. Too soon to trade him for the Rays IMO.
  9. Opposing hitters thought really highly of his stuff this year.
  10. Is that what they heard from Jordan directly or what Boras said that Jordan said?
  11. Jay Jaffe's article on Luis: https://blogs.fangraphs.com/luis-tiant-1940-2024-the-cuban-dervish/
  12. We're at the point where we're not advocating for what they should do, but what we think they may do under their own dumb constraints. Perfect offseason would be TOTR starter, two really good relievers, deal Masa, backup defensive catcher.
  13. The owner has put all his eggs in the big 3 (now big 4) basket and it'd be a complete surprise if he trades any of them. He doesn't want to spend big dollars in free agency. How else would they acquire a TOTR starter?!?!?
  14. It's what we're stuck talking about when the owner isn't committed to spending anymore.
  15. Seems like Breslow wants to acquire a guy a year before he turns into an ace. Would it take Duran to acquire him? Maybe. I don't think that's the trade he makes though. Lots of rumors about Casas right now too, but I don't see that one either.
  16. The law of averages is now kicking the Sox' ass right now too. 🤮
  17. People have read my posts long enough to know that I'm shameless on here. 🤷‍♀️
  18. I think the idea of the article is fair. It's just "they should CONSIDER a Duran for Kirby OR Gilbert trade." I think there are valid questions about 2024 being a career year for Duran. An ankle or knee injury to Duran would have the same impact as an elbow injury to Gilbert.
  19. The last time the Yankees were below .500 was 1992. Since 1995, they've missed the playoffs only 5 times. Seems like they are doing it the right way!
  20. It's even more of a crapshoot now that more teams can get in. However, a strong payroll position should get you entry into the playoffs. You don't even have a chance if you're sitting at .500 or worse in mid September. Sox have a good farm system and the means to acquire good FA's. That's how the Dodgers have managed to stay competitive. Why don't the Sox go that route?
  21. I don't think Duran is worth Skubal or Skenes. Duran is probably worth a Tanner Houck equivalent.
  22. I agree with the premise of the article. It would just be hard to find a trade partner. Might need a 3 team deal.
