  1. Breslow said in the press conference that taking on the whole contract wasn't necessary for the deal.
  2. Yeah, it's just another thing for us to ruminate on here. Ultimately, it doesn't really have much bearing on whether a team will continue to perform well over the remainder of the season or not.
  3. All I said was "I like Meidroth, but he's been bad the past few months" and showed that he's been bad the past few months. It's not cherry picking. We've complained about Toro on here endlessly and he's as bad as Toro in the same timeframe that Toro has nosedived. I was a big fan of Meidroth, but am aware of his faults as a player (low EV, low barrel rates, bad arm strength). It's ok to like players and still be realistic about who they are. I would have still liked him in the org, but it's not the end of the world that he was traded. I spent all last offseason saying to trade Mayer, so...
  4. An inexperienced CBO wouldn't have traded for Jordan Hicks.
  5. Send a strongly worded letter to the Commissioner/Tinkerer.
  6. Any runs allowed by position players should be taken out of the equation at the very least.
  7. He's only getting DFA'd if he's struggling to come back from the injury. He still has 3 MiLB options left so it's more likely they stash him in AAA for all of '26 if he's really struggling before ultimately DFA'ing.
  8. With the new rules, they can only have 14 pitchers max. One extra call up on both sides of the ball doesn't really move the needle for me. They probably call up Hamilton as a speed option. Slaten has thrown bullpens and "should" be ready. I wouldn't count on it.
  9. If it's an out on a pitch down the middle, who cares? If it's an out on a pitch the batter should be laying off, that's a different story IMO.
  10. I don't think the cost of acquiring a controllable starter at the deadline is reasonable. They needed to acquire a better short term guy. Ryan would be cheaper in the offseason, so pass for now. However, they didn't address the right side of the IF and it wouldn't have been very expensive to do so as we saw with other trades made around the league. It certainly wouldn't have set the farm back years.
  11. To me, it's just a wasted year if you don't try to load up when you expect to make the playoffs.
  12. Shout him out!
  13. I like Meidroth, but he's been pretty bad the past two months. Since 6/6: 547 OPS - 3rd worst in MLB 201 AVG - 9th worst in MLB 269 OBP - 9th worst in MLB 54 wRC+ - 4th worst in MLB 7 RBI - worst in MLB
  14. The tweak is what caused those first two horrific starts. His numbers in AAA for SF were much better than he has shown in WOO.
  15. It's a bad situation because I don't want Rafaela at 2b either (313 OPS at 2b). If Toro is only going to OPS around 650 going forward (it's actually been worse the last two months), I'd DFA him and call up Sogard. It's not very exciting, but he gives you a better versatility in the IF. I'd get him into the rotation, play Romy more and get Rafaela away from 2b. The OF defense makes more sense with Rafaela in CF. Sogard is a plug and play guy as needed. Having a guy like Sogard is also more helpful when you are stuck carrying 3 catchers.
  16. Sox are tied for 4th in wRC+ in AL. Sox are 8th in fWAR for SP in AL. They aren't top 3 in many metrics I could find. Sox are 2nd (tied) in fWAR for RP in AL. #1 in ERA, #3 in FIP, #1 HR/FB, #1 Barrel%, #2 Hard Hit%.
  17. Sox could have swapped a different guy out for Meidroth. He was not a deal breaker for sure. Zero concerns about that trade though. Sox have an ace and now find themselves in a playoff race. Without one, they wouldn't be anywhere near the playoffs IMO.
  18. Campbell: 4/30 - 6/18 451 OPS Toro : 6/13 - present 542 OPS Comparing Campbell's numbers favorably to Toro isn't the win we want it to be. Neither of them should be playing for BOS right now.
  19. His defense ain't what it used to be. Wong is better even with his inept bat.
  20. Carrasco has similar k/9, FIP, xFIP, xERA to Buehler. I don't believe Buehler has some magical playoff gene that will help him perform. Sox just don't have a viable in house replacement that they believe can replace this DFA worthy arm.
  21. I feel like we have had this conversation about 2b almost every season since Pedroia got injured.
