  1. Crochet is considerably worse on short rest. His HR/9 goes from 1.05 to 1.5 and his ERA goes up to 3.58. If you can't have Crochet for Games 1 or 2 of the Wild Card, I'm not sure Game 162 matters especially if you aren't getting the best version of Crochet. May as well throw Giolito out there who is in line to go that day.
  2. Giant Brand's lone WooSox appearance? He was used to come in after Zack Kelly couldn't get out of a 1st inning in an April start. Brand is typically used as a guy who gets ready fast and is thrown into a game really quickly, especially early in the year and ST. The results weren't very good (5 strikes, 19 balls). He walked the bases loaded. Walked the next guy to score a run. Then gave up a 3 run 2b that was hit 403'.
  3. Nate Eaton has more career bWAR than any other VMI graduate. Josh Winder of the Twins is a close second.
  4. Breslow and Cora aren’t getting fired even if they lose out.
  5. To me, it doesn’t matter if they miss the playoffs again or get swept in the WC. It’s the same thing.
  6. I think 2012 quit, not 2011. 2011 just had no pitching down the stretch.
  7. Eaton 1018 OPS in Sept. He's not the problem. Refsnyder 880 OPS in Sept. He's been good too.
  8. The whole organization was relying on the development of Roman Anthony and Marcelo Mayer for years. If that's your take, that's your take. They should have relied on Roman from Opening Day on. For the time he was active, he was a top 20 hitter in MLB. 17th fWAR 8th in OBP 21st in Runs 20th BB% 6th in Hard Hit % 5th in EV
  9. 1 game advantage AND hold the tiebreaker.
  10. Depends on how he looks the next two starts. Could be more important to go with a guy like Early in Game 162 and rest Crochet for the WC? xFIP since ASB: Early 1.43 Crochet 2.36 Tolle 3.71 Bello 4.32 Giolito 5.02
  11. They were a factor, but it's going to be an expected factor on the pitching side here on out. Sox will need to plan for it. Can't expect pitching health if guys are ramping up velos to career highs up and down the system. There are a lot of internal options that just don't have a history of staying healthy (Casas, Mayer, Abreu). Continuing to rely on them is foolish. The reason Cora loves Duran is that he posts. Sox need guys that can post and less guys in the trainer's room. This is why I wouldn't re-sign Bregman. He's just not going to be reliable going forward and you can only carry so many MLB guys on your 40 man roster.
  12. There were a few of us who didn't see a TOTR starter as reasonable, but thought the right side of the IF needed addressing. Also, his actual deadline acquisition at SP was awful. Just get a guy that has a history of staying healthy at least!
  13. There were several times the Sox had comebacks even though they didn't win it all. HOWEVER, the Sox have won 4 freakin' World Series in the past 20 years or so. To sit here and say the organization will always be "the Flops" is just a little silly. They've won more titles in that timeframe than any other org, right?
  14. So your only problem with Pumpsie is that he said "Go Guardians" then?
  15. Ok? The org's push towards velo is going to get pitchers injured more often than in other orgs. Mayer is always injured and can't be relied on. Casas was injured very early in the season and wasn't replaced for a long time. Abreu has a history of nagging injuries. Bregman is older and has had leg injuries before. The only injury that I would point to as being unexpected is Roman Anthony.
  16. Craig traded away Devers and said "we'll be buying at the deadline, we'll win more games going forward." They had already called up Anthony when they traded Devers. There was a path to keeping them both. The org just couldn't work it out. The team would have been better this year if they had Devers. They traded Devers for Harrison and some garbage. At the deadline, they were definitely NOT buyers. They didn't improve themselves. Breslow said they would, but they didn't and it's not fair to say "it was a seller's market" because IT ALWAYS IS A SELLER'S MARKET AT THE DEADLINE. People started falling all over themselves when Lowe had a few good games and how shrewd Breslow was for picking him up. Be real. He was a DFA'd player and is continuing to play like one.
  17. His moves during the offseason were pretty good. Once the season started, most everything he touched was pretty bad.
  18. Schiraldi choked then Stanley Steamer choked. If BB had fielded the ball cleanly, Mookie still gets a single.
  19. Pumpsie isn’t a troll, just annoying to some people. We’re all good at being annoying so he’s got good company in that department. We have trolls here (stork is a prime example). There’s a big difference IMO between what they post and what Pumpsie posts. If you can show up in every gamethread and truly participate, you’re part of the community. Maybe you have a more negative opinion on this version of the team. Maybe you have a more positive outlook. It’s not being a troll to simply have a differing opinion. Now, if you disappear for weeks and only show up when things are bad to crap on the Sox and other fans, you’re probably a troll.
  20. Poor Sox. Will prob never win a WS or 4 in my lifetime.
