  1. And Happy Birthday to Sox legends Aaron Robinson, Marty Barrett, Dusty Cooke and Bill Harris.
  2. Mayer is a better SS today and should be the Red Sox SS for the next 6 years.
  3. Looks to not be a pitcher's duel. Maybe Kochanowicz can get these bats going again?
  4. I don't agree with their calculation of dWAR and how it factors into the total value. His bat has been pretty brutal and his glove has just been ok. FanGraphs gives him an FRV of -2.
  5. Narvaez C Romy/Toro/Whoever 1B Story 2B Mayer SS Bregman 3B Abreu RF Rafaela CF Anthony LF This is the lineup I'd try to run out as much as possible going forward if I want the best defense on the field.
  6. Only two fulltime SS's worse than Story right now.
  7. Pass. I think the defensive metrics are ok for what they are, but when OAA and DRS greatly disagree on a player it's easy to see their limitations. Someday there will be something better I hope. It's similar to how the catch percentage calculation isn't reflective of difficulty the closer a ball reaches the wall.
  8. It still depends on what the definition of "impact" and "contributor" are! I think there is still expectation that even top 100 guys may flame out, but that there is a greater likelihood of them succeeding or at least having a higher ceiling. Many relievers don't become top 100 guys but can have long careers. Look at the trade from last year: Luis Garcia for Matt Lugo, Ryan Zeferjahn, Niko Kavadas All those guys have played in the majors since the trade. Are they considered contributors? IDK?
  9. At what point do they stop being "young" though? With this org, they will continue to keep churning the roster it feels like. Duran 28 Narvaez 26 Abreu 26 Casas 25 Toro 28 Hamilton 27 Romy 28 Refsnyder 34 Wong 29 Sogard 27 Sabol 27 Eaton 28 Is 25 even young anymore? That's the prime of most careers.
  10. Tied for 15th with Nootbar and Altuve. 🙃
  11. It won't be much longer. The system is getting lighter. Anthony and Mayer are already up. All the other prospects aren't on that level. 🤗
  12. Fitts hasn't really had swing and miss stuff since coming to BOS. Last year after being called up, his K-BB was 2.4%, but a lot of people drooled over his 1.74 ERA. He pitched 5 innings last time out, but gave up 2 bombs. We'll see how he looks this go around.
  13. I generally agree. I think they should keep working on it and improving, but it shouldn't have to be a "back to basics" approach that some of these guys need. It's embarrassing. I know that working in the cage is the most fun thing they can do, but being out on the field is just as important.
  14. Part of it is on him. Part of it is on roster construction. Part of it is on how the organization is developing these guys. C - Narvaez (NYY developed, great fielder), Wong (LAD/BOS developed, bad fielder) 1B - Casas (BOS developed, terrible fielder) 2B - Campbell (BOS developed, terrible fielder), Hamilton (MIL/BOS, ok fielder) SS - Story (COL developed, good fielder) 3B - Devers (BOS developed, terrible fielder), Bregman (HOU developed, great fielder), Mayer (BOS developed, good fielder) RF - Abreu (HOU/BOS developed, good fielder) CF - Rafaela (BOS developed, great fielder) LF - Duran (BOS developed, high variance fielder), Anthony (BOS developed, passable fielder) Journeyman players with journeyman fielding abilities: Romy, Eaton, Toro, Refsnyder
  15. That's what happens with .500 type teams, you'll get good stretches where everyone is excited matched with bad stretches where everyone wants to dump all over the team.
  16. What's the definition of "impact player?" What's the expectation when you trade a prospect? I don't think every prospect is expected to be an "impact player." I think sometimes you trade for bench guys and relievers. Sometimes you trade for prospects that aren't going to appear for a few years. We all know that prospects carry a certain amount of risk anyway. My guess is a lot of the 600 prospects weren't expected to be "impact players" just the guys in the top 100, right?
  17. We've seen the pitching be streaky before. We've seen the offense be streaky before. They are in a bit of a funk. The one think that isn't streaky is the defense. That's just always terrible.
  18. 2.9 runs/game since 6/10. The offense has been swooning for a little while now. The five games before that they averaged 9.2 runs. Roman Anthony hasn't broken out yet. Duran has been back to '23 Duran with bad defense. Story has a moment here or there, but isn't consistent enough to be a fulltime guy going forward because of his swing and miss. Whenever Wong plays, it's like a pitcher batting.
  19. Per Middlebrooks: "if the infielder is going back, you’re always listening for the outfielder to takeover verbally… I don’t think that happened." It's on the OFer to call the 3b off then. Duran just stinks out there and doesn't know what he's doing. Your 2025 Red Sox DH, ladies and germs.
  20. Breslow is just hoarding pitching talent the way Bloom was hoarding hitting talent. It's why the pendulum is swinging the other way and the hitting is starting to look lighter. Breslow Pitchers: Sandlin, Tolle, Clarke, Cason, Holobetz, Aita Breslow Hitters: Tibbs, Yophery Traded Montgomery OF, Meidroth IF, Teel C, Gonzelez P for Crochet P Only drafted 6 hitters last season and the only decent one left in the system is Zach Ehrhard POR 721 OPS.
  21. Eaton had it in his glove and is the better defender tho?
  22. Some of the best players were taller 1b/3b that also pitched. I'd say it was closer to 50%. It depends on what your definition of "best" is. Your best defender would be at shortstop.
