  1. He was much better at getting RBI when Mookie was hitting before him.
  2. My question is that his DRS was much better in LF in previous years, but is far worse this year. If his defense was "just below average" prior to this year in RF, how much worse would it look going forward?
  3. I'm not concerned about Xander only having 7 HR and 37 RBI and JD only having 9 HR and 38 RBI. 1. RBI is a function of the guys hitting in before them. Hitters 9 and 1 have been not great. Kiké was poor for long stretches and they stuck with him leading off. 2. I think I'm not surprised by JD's power decreasing. 481 SLG this year. His SLG from 5/1/21 - 10/1/21 was 473 with 19 HR. He had a strong April, but tailed off afterwards. He's just continuing that trend. Even so, he has a 137 wRC+ which is solid. Not great for 20M, but solid. 3. Xander has matched the 137 wRC+, which is second highest of his career. I don't know if I could expect much more out of him. Great batting average and OBP. If he continues this pace, he'll have a career best fWAR. hard to complain.
  4. That's not an analogy that makes any sense.
  5. His statcast does look really good, but it still hasn't turned around. My other causes for concern are his defense getting worse and he's getting a lot slower. Without an infusion of power into his game, I'm not sure what his value is and he doesn't really Barrel the ball. He's a contact hitter who is getting slower by the day. Notin has said that the change in the shift should help his game, but I'm not so sure. His wOBA with shift vs no shift isn't all that different. I think he just doesn't have a swing suited for Fenway (per the Expected HR by Park). Home 56 wRC+ Away 111 wRC+
  6. I just need a little sign of life. That's all I need.
  7. Pain. Just pain.
  8. Are you saying there's a greater purpose to this? If there is, you need to share.
  9. If they just meet the expectations of a normal season going forward, they should be competitive. Seems like the good luck with health from last year has turned on them this year. It happens. If I had to rank my frustrations: Casas injury Bullpen mess Verdugo regression Dalbec regression Misc pitching injuries Black hole at bottom third of lineup JBJ/Story/AAA pitchers/Cordero don't really bother me all that much.
  10. I just think letting some of these guys walk out of the door for nothing is harming the team. That's how I see. I think it's more important that a failed playoff run. Unfortunately, I'm too glass is half empty on this year's team. I just don't have your optimism this year.
  11. It's specifically for JuCo guys. Why? IDK.
  12. I'm sure Bloom has already planned for multiple scenarios. He's probably prepared to sell, buy and stand pat or do a mix. I'm sure he's already had conversations about the guys we're talking about.
  13. You can offer a 10M raise without blinking an eye, not that I think you have to go that high (Semien signed for 25 AAV). Then you go to Devers and see what you can work out.
  14. You think you'd get less than a comp pick for Bogaerts, but that he's going to sign some sort of max deal in the offseason? Huh? That's not how the trade deadline ever works.
  15. They are as close to .500 as they are to playoff contention. I just don't see this team as having a real shot in the postseason. They aren't a very strong ballclub. It's not the crapshoot people make it out to be IMO. This team is worse hitting than last year (10th fWAR in 21, now 14th). This team has worse starting pitching than last year (6th fWAR in 21, now 16th). This team has worse relief pitching than last year (9th in fWAR in 21, now 19th). They don't look like a team that is worth putting all your chips on and letting it ride.
  16. If they are cutting JDM, shoulding there be enough $$$ to re-sign Xander?
  17. I think the 2021 Red Sox, who led the division for a long time until a late swoon, were a really good team and much better than the 2022 version. This team has just shown very little fight. I'm not a believer.
  18. I think the Sox would get smoked by the Rays and Yanks in the postseason. I don't know how Toronto will play down the stretch. Young ballclub, new manager, lots of variance.
  19. That's surprising. Also, they lose slot value for any top 10 pick they don't sign. My guess is they are anticipating on signing a ton of those guys under slot. We'll have to see what Brannon gets.
  20. Ok, so could the Cleveland Guardians of 2007 beat the other AL Central teams? As the division winner, I bet they probably could.
  21. Through 15 rounds: 9 College P 4 HS SS 1 HS OF 1 HS C 1 College SS
  22. I don't see them selling no matter what.
  23. That Cleveland team won 96 games. Are these Red Sox going to win 96 games? If so, then yes, they should be buyers...................
