So not just along for the ride then?
As always, flags fly forever. The reason the Sale extension doesn't work out as no flags have come after it. Don't pay for past performance.
SSS. I think think there's lots of noise that contributes to this. If there's a guy rounding 3rd and you know JD is up next, you're more likely to hold them than if you know Arroyo or Plawecki is up next.
David Price's deal was worth it. With him in the fold, they won 3 straight AL East titles and a WS. They are now eating some money on the back end, but I think it was worth it. Would have still rather signed Lester though. His deal was less egregious than Sale's actually.
If you are just comparing JD vs Schwarber, yes Schwarber is much more expensive than JD. Also, Schwarber may not be a good bet to age well. This season could be a high point for him and hitting in PHI may not correlate to how he'd hit in Fenway.
They are, but only because of how many Wild Card spots they have added. This team could be in closer contention than the hated 2019 team, but actually have a worse record.
He's had 5 years to get better and it's still looking pretty rough. This is his age 26 season.
In CF
2021: -5 DRS, -28.8 UZR/150
2022: -6 DRS, -15.5 UZR/150
Not really as I don't think you make trades for $10M backup CFers. If Kiké was healthy, he'd still be the everyday guy.
Will they still sell? I'm not sure if they sell regardless of what their record is.
Should they sell? I think they should make phone calls and see what offers are out there. Considering what Dan Vogelbach fetched, seems like the Sox should explore trading everyone.
We'll see if you can catch this locomotive by the end of this year. Chance it makes it's way to Portland.

Yeah, they really screwed up the development of their players with that field. It's a shame. Other organizations have similar fields in their systems though.
I'd play Verdugo every day. I think Cora is going to play Duran in CF every day just to get him the reps. I guess that makes a platoon with JBJ/Ref in RF? IDK.
If they were trying to win, I'd put JBJ in CF and Ref in RF when he was ready and just go with that. Duran was hot for 10 games and then ice cold right after. It was a dramatic fall off.
If you look at how the park is situated on Google Maps, the jet stream pushes everything directly out to RF because of where the train tracks are. It doesn't have the same orientation as McCoy or Fenway. Simple popups carry like crazy there for LHB.
I questioned if they should have traded Verdugo over the winter last year as he was a guy who had a lot of value. If I had to hold onto one of them, it'd be him though. I don't think I want to watch Duran in the OF for 125+ games.
Freeman is a great player, but I think they are going to try to go cheap on the 1b/DH spots the next few years which will free up $$$ for other needs.
I agree that the JBJ trade really didn't free up cash and really only makes sense if the prospects pan out.
Pivetta vs Plesac

Refsnyder DH,
Verdugo LF,
Bogaerts SS,
Vázquez C,
Cordero 1B,
Dalbec 3B,

NGL, if you gave me this lineup at the end of 2020, it may have sounded intriguing.
