  1. How many series have the Sox won against the AL East this season?
  2. The Jays core isn't good enough? They won last year's trading deadline? They won the offseason? I keep hearing about all the young talent they have. Is this not the case?
  3. @stephapstein Is gambling getting too close to the sport for comfort? MLB union head Tony Clark: “Getting? No. Is? Yeah. Has been? Yeah.” He expresses concern that players have bookies following them in social media. The biggest change I've noticed since I was a youngin'. Every sports network is either owned by Ballys or features so much gambling advertisement that it's basically one in the same.
  4. You would not enjoy driving in FL then.
  5. Red Sox expiring contracts: Xander, Eovaldi, JD, Vazquez, Kiké, Wacha, Hill, Strahm, Davis Rays expiring contracts: Kiermaier (team option), Zunino, Kluber, Wisler Jays expiring contracts: Stripling, Romo The core of the Rays and Jays is intact beyond 2023. The Red Sox are in a state of flux with a ton of players leaving at the end of the year. Does it make more sense for the Sox to just let the players go without getting anything back for them? That doesn't make business sense to me. That's just my opinion. Other posters want to take a chance on another postseason run, believing that it's all just a crapshoot and this team has as good a chance as any other team. I just don't see it that way. I think there is a greater impetus for this year's Sox to sell than the Jays or Rays or any other recent Sox team. It's a unique case.
  6. I said "making a run AT the playoffs." I don't think this team can make a run IN the playoffs. They can't win a series against a good team. They just can't.
  7. I'm not sure they are going to be able to fall 6-8 games behind that quickly. They are only 2 games back now and there is a 10 game home stretch before the end of July. They would really have to crater for that to happen. Since they haven't made overtures to Xander about re-signing, I assume they aren't going to keep him so I'd sell. I bet they are just going to stand pat and make some minor moves ala Austin Davis/Hansel Robles but a very mediocre bat.
  8. I would like to DFA COVID.
  9. Last year they could actually win a series against the AL East here or there.
  10. I agree. I don't think he's going to sign though.
  11. Sox have $8.48M to spend. If they give all of the bonus to Roman (about 400K), they have to save about 1.3M elsewhere. Each pick from 11-20 is slotted at $150k. Romero will probably sign for slightly under slot. Maybe 2.6? 400K savings. Brooks Brannon isn't going to sign. That's 150K savings. Rogers/Meidroth would also be way under slot. 500K savings. Pass on signing Caleb Bolden at 200K and you can probably sign the rest of your class. Brooks Brannon is probably not signing though.
  12. @brendan_camp Thaddeus Ward named Carolina League Pitcher of the Week. Luis Perales named Florida Complex League Pitcher of the Week. Stiwar Adames named Dominican Summer League Pitcher of the Week.
  13. The 29 AAV just wasn't what he wanted. It's not about the money at that point. He wanted the positioning among his peers He'd rather be the highest paid AAV player over 8 years.
  14. This team can't beat an AL East team in the regular season. What is going to happen in the playoffs? It's a waste to let these guys walk away for nothing.
  15. Sale is done for the year. Wacha is out. Hill is out. A good GM needs to weight the options. Is this a team that can win it all? If not, you don't play just to make a run at the playoffs.
  16. I mean, he chose to not be available for away games at a rival team. Seems like the criticism is warranted IMO.
  17. Isn't it more important to set yourself up for the future and stock pile your assets in the farm? I thought that was job #1 these days, not just running out the clock because some fans want to see Xander for 2 more months in a Red Sox uni?
  18. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/christian-walker-572233?stats=statcast-r-hitting-mlb I mean, I think he'd try to hit every single pitch over the monster.
  19. He has 2 more ARB years remaining and could make a good DH candidate or 1B platoon for a LHB if you had a young one of those coming up... He's an older guy with not much upside, but he doesn't present a huge HOME/AWAY split issue like some other guys.
  20. Grossman has been pretty bad this year. Pham is interesting, but seems to be bad for a different reason.
  21. Well, once they get Upton in the Snell deal, they should be ok.
  22. Easier gig than drafting for MLB. "Ahhh, but Keith Law's list of 500 guys had this player 100 spots lower! Bad pick!"
  23. Myers would get to play out the string and get some more playing time. It is a contract year for him.
  24. Franchy's last 5 games: 17 PA 0 H 1 RBI 0 BB% 88.2 K% -100 wRC+ (15 K's out of 17 PA's)
  25. He's definitely trending downwards with xwOBA. He started above water, but it's now like a stock market crash.
