Because your on talksox and they are paid 6 figure salaries to run a multi million dollar business.
Should you be the CEO of Mcdonalds just because you eat there everyday and know the dollar menu by heart?
Carp is in because they needed some pop from the LH side with Papi out. I would imagine if the Sox have a lead later on in the game Bradley will be brought in for defensive purposes.
No I agree none of them are. But in the scenario the Sox acquire another SP one of them would have to. I honestly don't see it happening. But for conversation sake I was playing along.
I'm not totally against Lee but I don't see the need to give up someone out of the rotation. If they were to get Lee or some other SP then I think they could move one of Dempster, Lackey, or Doobey to the pen as long man spot SP. Lackey is coming off a 0 IP season and my guess is he's going to have some kind of limit that will run out before the season is up. Doobey is probably not a 30+ start SP yet if you look at his innings progression. So he may need time in the BP as well.
I meant if he's the add on in a deal that would mean the Sox didn't have to give up a cost controlled prospect, not that Mortenson was the cost controlled player that was saved.
If he get's his ERA into the 4's that not bad for a mop up guy in most BP's. Like I said he probably be an add on. But that's one less cost controlled prospect with options they would have to trade.
I think it's a bit early to be selling on Doobey. The other three I could stomach. But that's likely not enough to get him and I'm not liking the 25M a year price tag that rubs possibly to his age 37 season. I don't see any reason to pay anyone that age that much a season, and IU doubt Philly eats a ton on the deal.
Dempster had one really bad start and a couple mediocre but has been pretty good on the season as a whole. I was one of the biggest poo poo'ers when Dempster was signed but he's been good so far.
You really want to count on Aceves after one good start? Me personally I'd like to see how he reacts to being sent back down. Is he still in line or on the cusp of another meltdown.
Mortenson hasn't been great but if he can manage a decent month he probably has some value(maybe only as a add on in a package) towards the TDL.
Giving up on WMB after 7 rough weeks is ridiculous. It must be because the team is in "contention" at this moment that's causing this. Let's just toss out the system that brought this team together in the first place and go back to filling every position with "known" expensive players. I mean Headley is racking in San Diego, he will surely rake in Fenway
I don't think I would give up WMB straight up for Headley let alone a top prospect to boot when considering overall control and future costs. Headley is getting ready to be a 15M+ a year player. WMB is struggling but has the potential to be Headley like or even better and is cost controlled.
Lackey has been better then expected. But there are reasons you don't want to lean on him. He threw no innings last year and I can't remember a TJS player not coming back with some sort of pitch limit. Even if Lackey gets through most of the season he's going to hit his limit and will not be regularly available unless the Sox throw caution and the remaining 3 years they have him into the wind and hope a solid season gets someone to bite on a trade.
The LT for this season shouldn't be an issue anymore. I believed that is tallied in April or early May. Regardless if the team decides it needs some players to round off the team come July, I don't think a few million for a RP or what not is going to scare them off imo.
He's not even comparable to those guys. He only makes 7M and he's a free agent after the season. Yes it hurts the Sox he's not healthy and producing. But he's replaceable and it's not like he's making 20% of the payroll or something.
