  1. He can have games where he goes 8 and then he will struggle to get through the 5th with high pitch counts. In the end, his numbers usual look okay to good, but he is a frustrating rollacoaster during the season.
  2. If the Red Sox agree to eat most of Santana's salary,we might be able to get him cheaper than Hill. Santana would be an upgrade, but he will drive us crazy. He throws a lot of pitches and often can't go deep into games.
  3. Cherington should go to jail for the shenanigans (sp) in the DR. And for three last place finishes in 4 years.
  4. Those back to back last place finishes were the worst stretch since the 1930's. Ben's tenure maybe the weirdest of any GMs tenure for any organization.
  5. When I am forced to root for the Skanks sometime I place a wager on them. If they win, the $ makes me feel less disgusted, and if they lose, I have more reasons to hate them.
  6. The AGon trade didn't hurt us. It was the Crawford deal and the Beckett extension and lots of other stuff. AGon has been a solid producer on the field.
  7. Lackey was clearly injured and refusing to get shut down because of his contract clause obligating him to play an additional year for the league minimum. He was lobbing balloons to the plate.
  8. Even with the benefit of hindsight, I would make that trade.
  9. Yep, Theo did all that, but he wasn't great at everything. In season trades for pitching was one of his weaknesses, unless you think he was perfect.
  10. We gave up a lot for him. Wasn't it Schilling and Brady Anderson? People here would throw themselves off roofs if DD did something like that. Ar the very least, they would need to be hospitalized and medicated until mental stability was restored.
  11. Which is why I argue that we have needed to move on from him, because half seasons are not enough. He always leaves us with a huge expensive hole at the trading deadline.
  12. Fister, and just because other guys didn't get traded doesn't mean that they couldn't be had if the pot had been sweetened. As you pointed out, we gave up nothing for Bedard and that is what we got from him. The need for pitching in 2011 was glaring and critical. They weren't going to get it done on the cheap. Theo did not appropriately address the need of that team down the stretch.
  13. Can anyone think of an impact pitcher acquired by the Sox at the trading deadline since Mike Boddiker? Peavy was the best effort that I can remember, but he didn't have much of an impact.
  14. Bedard did nothing for us and even the article that you cited said "The key to this deal is Erik Bedard for the Red Sox. If he stays healthy, and that is a big if, the Red Sox might have a valuable addition to their starting rotation." The "if" was answered in his prior start, he hurt his knee.
  15. Plus, my recollection is that far better pitchers moved at the 2011 trading deadline than Bedard. I could be wrong, but it isn't worth my time to research facts to support a throw away line. I stand by my opinion that DD is more decisive when it comes to making deals to fill needs.
  16. VMart was a good one. Do you notice that you haven't listed any good pitcher acquisitions? That has always been the big failing -- pitching.
  17. He had just hurt his knee the day before and then we got him. His knee injury was known to us. There were better options available. He was a left handed Clay in that he couldn't stay healthy at that juncture of his career. Plus, his stuff was gone, especially with a bum knee.
  18. I am including Theo in my statement.
  19. More often than not they twiddle thumbs -- Theo included. I am still shaking my head about Erik Bedard.
  20. DD is different than Ben. He seems to have a knack for getting deals done. I had become used to ineptness at the trading deadlines where our GMs twiddled their thumbs and did not address the needs of the team. And then they made excuses. If I had foreseen how decisively and quickly that DD would address the needs of the team at the ASB, I would not have been quite so concerned. I have no problem with a "wait and see" approach if the GM can act effectively once they see the need. Those of us here who pointed out the need in the preseason identified the need with foresight and DD addressed the need on season.
  21. My mind is packed with over 50 years of baseball, and it is the stuff in my life that I remember best. I looked and found this to back it up: http://www.yougoprobaseball.com/how-to-treat-prevent-and-cure-finger-blisters.html
  22. How do you come to conclude that? They just added a starter addressing the need that has been there from the off season. If ERod follows up his last start with another good outing, maybe we don't need another starter.
  23. Good point, but I was checking the minor league stats ans their names jumped out at me.
  24. Budget constraints don't change the personnel needs. We were addressing the personnel needs. Many of us felt that they needed an additional starter, and we were right. If they didn't get a pitcher for budgetary reasons, it doesn't absolve the decision not to get a pitcher, nor does it change or eliminate the need. If they didn't have the room in the budget, that is also on them for wasting money on Castillo, Panda, and Craig. I realize that DD wasn't responsible for those mistakes, but he needed to find a way to work around it.
