  1. I was grouchier before I retired. Sleep deprivation is very bad. LOL!
  2. You guys finally started making sense. LOL! Seriously, I think we all just got tired of fighting and started reading each other's posts without an angry filter and started to realize that the other guy was making some good points. Nah! LOL! We still disagree on a whole bunch of stuff like trading Pedey and Papelbon.
  3. Maybe if we also pick up most of Buch's remaining salary. They would have a no braine option on him for 2017. LOL!
  4. Pomeranz is facing a tough crowd on Talk Sox tonight. Anything worse than 7 innings and 3 runs and he will get skewered. 7 innings and 3 runs will be considered a wash. Welcome to Boston.
  5. His value had gone up. Pitching yourself onto an All Star team will do that.
  6. 15 Day DL for Koji
  7. Using him a 4-0 game after using him in 2 of the last 3 games is not wise usage, and we may have paid the price.
  8. DD had to make a move like this now or in the off season. The pitching fairy was not going to drop major league arms at his doorstep in the offseason, and we don't have any in our organization. This was not a win now move. It was a move toward competiveness for the next few years.
  9. I would have felt secure handing the ball to Barnes who had worked in only 1 of the prior 3 games.
  10. Papelbon was not 41 years old. Plus there have been times where Koji has been a little worn out this season already.
  11. Koji had worked on Friday and Saturday. He didn't need the work.
  12. Their top 3 hitters were coming up. Even if each went deep, we are still ahead and after those three, there lineup is very weak. There was no reason to go to Koji with a 4 run lead unless he needed work.
  13. Oh, you believe everything you read.
  14. Whether it was an overpay or not, and that will not get determined until this kid gets to the big leagues, kimmi hit the nail on the head when she said that it had to be done. Our starting staff has been in a shambles since Ben inexplicably gutted our starting pitching in 2014 and did nothing to rebuild it and our farm just does not have any high caliber major league ready arms. Whatever the price ends up being, DD had to pay it.
  15. LOL. He is a regular Branch Rickey... Right fan girl? LOL! It is no secret that you favor Theo, which is why I will occasional tweak you about him. I only have one beef about him-- that he walked away from the Red Sox twice. That makes me shake my head. You get the GM job of your favorite team at a very young age and win 2 World Series becoming a sort of folk hero and you walk away. He spit in the face of his good fortune. I hope the Cubs collapse on him and never win anything. Also, he knew nothing about pitching except that he can't hit it, so I guess that I have 2 beefs with him.
  16. As much of a knucklehead that Manny was, he worked hard at his hitting craft. In Spring Training I often witnessed that he would take an extra half an hour of bp in the cages in LF after taking his regular rotation on the field, and then he would play and always get 3 ABs even in week 1 of ST. He worked at it very hard. He was a true savant.
  17. 4-0 game-- no reason to use him unless he needed the work.
  18. This trade in no way will affect the long term viability of this team. No prospect or group of prospects is essential to the future of the team. It is the job of the FO to make sure that the farm will periodically fill the needs of the MLB team. Tearing your hair out about this or any other trade of prospects is unwarranted drama.
  19. Sure it does. It is a comment on DD's performance as GM. Lighten up.
  20. I agree. The message to the team cannot be overlooked. If the FO reinforces the roster it sends a message that the FO believes in the team's chances and that they are willing to help get the team what it needs. When the FO doesn't address glaring needs, it sends a message to the team that the FO is giving up on the season.
  21. It is arguable whether it was an overpay. Only time will tell. But we agree that it needed to be done.
  22. I am not disregarding their value, but he stayed away from touching Moncado and Benintendi who are better prospects and closer to helping this team. DD had no choice but to obtain pitching from the outside if he wants this team to be competitive either this season or next season. If he didn't make this deal now, he would have to make a deal in the offseason. He could either pay now or pay later, but either way pitching needed to be obtained. This kid was just 18 and only in A ball. Before he makes an impact we may replace him in our organization with other top pitching prospects-- and we have with Groome. Hoarding prospect (most of which will not make it) makes no sense when they need to be used to fill current holes in the MLB roster.
  23. I think the current pen can perform okay until Kimbrel gets back. We need Taz to come back healthy very soon. If he has a setback, DD may need to look for a new arm.
  24. Damn that DD and his win now mentality. What about the future!
  25. That was a career season for him. He hasn't come close to that before or since and now he is 41.
