  1. for the right person i'd do it
  2. i don't really like konkero if we have other options like overbay and tracy, true that konkero has back to back 40 HR seasons, but it was in a very hitter's friendly ballpark, tracy had 25 or something in a pretty spacious park and he's young and cheap...if we have a chance to get overbay or tracy before konkero, i say do it
  3. BOSTON -- Josh Beckett would love jersey No. 21, but the newest member of Boston's starting rotation knows the Red Sox might not hand over Roger Clemens' old number "I'm going to wear whatever they give me," Beckett said when asked about his boyhood idol and fellow Texan. "It would definitely mean something to me." Beckett, in a conference call Saturday from his offseason ranch, said he's "pumped" to be playing for a passionate fan base after coming from the Florida Marlins. Boston acquired the hard-throwing 25-year-old in a seven-player deal that was completed on Thanksgiving. The Red Sox traded four prospects to the Marlins for Beckett, third baseman Mike Lowell and reliever Guillermo Mota. "It's a new chapter in my life," Beckett said. "It's a challenge I'm looking forward to." Beckett talked to Kevin Millar, who was the Red Sox first baseman for the past three seasons, and Red Sox pitcher David Wells to get a feel for Boston. Wells has asked to be traded, and has cited a lack of privacy in Boston, but Beckett says being in the spotlight won't bother him. "I'm from a relatively small town. I basically live on a ranch in the offseason," he said. "I don't think it necessarily befits my persona [but] I don't foresee it being a problem." Beckett was the MVP of the 2003 World Series, when the Marlins beat the New York Yankees. He's knows all about the Red Sox-Yankees rivalry, but he's downplaying the hype. "We've got a lot of games against other [teams], too, that we've got to win," Beckett said. It is the second time in three years that Boston has traded for a potential ace over Thanksgiving. In 2003, the Red Sox acquired Curt Schilling from the Arizona Diamondbacks and rode him to the World Series title the next year. Beckett went 15-8 with a 3.38 ERA last season, when he had problems with his shoulder and recurring blisters on his right middle finger. He said his shoulder is fine. "I've got great strength in all my muscles," he said. He is eligible for salary arbitration and expected to make between $4 million and $5 million next season. He can become a free agent after the 2007 season, and said Saturday that he doesn't know if the Red Sox and his agent have discussed a long-term contract. Boston traded top shortstop prospect Hanley Ramirez, plus minor-league pitchers Harvey Garcia, Anibal Sanchez and Jesus Delgado in the deal. Ramirez, 21, considered one of Boston's top prospects, hit .271 with six homers, 52 RBI and 26 stolen bases at Double-A Portland last season before going 0-for-2 with the Red Sox during a September call-up. Lowell, 31, won a Gold Glove this year but his offense dropped off drastically and he is owed $9 million each of the next two seasons
  4. i like tracy because of his versity as well, he can play 3b, 1b, RF
  5. i really like overbay and we have an too many of everything;players , pitchers, and bullpen...i say we trade matt clement and youkilis for lyle overbay and geoff jenkins..this gives us a great OF, 25 homers and 86 RBIs batting .292 and a 1b that can get 15-20 HRs with 30+ doubles batting about .300 and jenkin's salary is the same thing as clement's lineup renteria-ss overbay-1b ortiz-dh manny-LF-he'll be alrite come baseball season jenkins-RF lowell-3b tek-C nixon-CF perodia-2b pretty potent lineup
  6. since manny is all but gone(ortiz said it himself)why don't we all put what we think would be the best, realistic manny trade
  7. overbay no doubt, he can give you 15-20 HRs, 70+RBIs, .280 BA, with above average defense, and i also like signing eduardo perez as our backup 1b and 3b and a 4th OF, along with a young guy as well to help him because he's 36 perez- http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/5094
  8. schimt? come on we already have a overkill of sp, i know it sounds weird, but what we need now is good young hitters
  9. thats a big IF coming off a monster 8 home runs or whatever he had...i say we trade him and arryo to the brewers for overbay, who is a real doubles hitter, and matt wise, great bp guy overbay- http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/6546 wise- http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/6546
  10. if thats the peple in your rotation i like it but if its the order they pitch i don't, out wakefield between our 2 hard throwing guys(schilling and beckett) to keep the other team off balance...not to mention schilling is 14-2 pitching after wakefield loses
  11. i say wait and see too
  12. The Red Sox have agreed to take on all $18 million of the money owed to Lowell over the next two seasons, a baseball official with knowledge of the discussions told ESPN.com's Jayson Stark WTF! he's not worth it...money wise this is a very unfair and stupid trade http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2232211
  13. i still say we trade lowell for a bullpen guy and use youkilis at 3rd and get overbay(he's much better than huff, cheaper too) for arryo since we have a overkill of sp...then we just trade wells for cash and use that(and what we save off lowell) money to acquire a great CF(hopefully resign damon to 3-4 years with a one year option, i mean the man has never ever been on the DL in his career).
  14. i say we try to trade lowell
  15. i don't know the full details of this trade, but how i'm looking at it now its seems kinda one way on the money side; lowell- 7.5 million beckett-2.4 million and when is he a FA? hanley-360K sanchez-360K Player to be named- for this to be fair money wise he would have to make about 8.4 million dollars i mean are we paying all of lowell's $? thats pretty crazy if we are because we aren't filling our needs by getting a space cadet on the wrong side of 30 and a young injury prone pitcher for some of our best prospects...we still don't have a great BP and a CF yet or any position player BUs
  16. hahaha
  17. schilling-14 million wakefield-4 million clement-9 million vazquez-11 million papelbon-360K with the exception of papelbon, that rotation is 38 million, even if we do trade manny, it would be a either/or sitatution with konkero/vazquez, we couldn't get both because of the money they'll command
  18. if the sox want to "free up" money, they wouldn't wanna go after vasquez, who is making 11 million a year
  19. see! go drink some haterade and watch your hatervision!
  20. i like your idea of manny to the cubs, because they need offensive, but your trade would never happen because; kerry wood is wayyyy toooo injury prone, and, matt murton is a great LF prospect....here is a better trade(in my opinion)...i can agree with you on A. Ramirez because we could teach youkilis to play 1st, keep papi as the DH, and have ramirez on 3rd(plays it well too), but here is my trade Cubs; Manny Matt Clement(send em bac!) Youkilis(if we don't get konkero) BoSox; Carlos Z-great fireballing pitching, high K guy A. Ramirez-great cleanup or 3rd hitter i think that's pretty legit trade...plus we could even sign konkero maybe because those players only total up to 11 million, got 9 million left over
  21. i know every one has been talking about how the bullpen needs major help and we should all go after bj ryan and farnsworth, but those guys are expensive...i think we only need one of them and thats al reyes...then we should go after a inexpensive guy like this; hector carrasco- pitched for texas in 05, 2.04 ERA inning 88.1 innings with 75Ks, he's durable, inexpensive, and reliable
  22. clevelend is the team to trade manny to..they have great young hitters and a great young pitching staff...we could get alot from clevelend
  23. amen...the only manny trade i would approve of is for albert pujols, or a star pitcher(jake peavy, johan santana)which will never happen
  24. jarrod washburn?
