  1. Story on Belichick's moves to replace Bruschi's position - if at all possible. In other news Rosenhaus "saves a drowning boy". Oh ok. First it's A-Rod pulling boy out of car's way...now this. Whether he can CPR- his clients' deals remains to be seen. BTW, didn't Smith have the same agent as Eli? Not surprising.
  2. Nono, I didn't mean to imply that Ramirez was going THERE, if anywhere. Take the comment at face value here. Distractions are everywhere in a big sporting market. Just play the game.
  3. Wow, I guess Boston waters are pretty calm. Doors are always revolving in Yankee camp.
  4. I'm kidding, darling, don't take it personally. I got it in Roswell. There's another thread in the "Talk Sox" section, and in it there's a link to the reported story that will be run in the 8/1 edition of "SI", by none other than Verducci, who last I hear, is on the radio talking about this... EDIT: Is a shot at Nomar really necessary?
  5. I think the story actually appears to be accurate; Tom Verducci (SI) might know more about it. My toaster picks up some radio stations; I'll let you know if I hear anything.
  6. ...Anaheim's had our number for AWHILE now. Plus the pitchers kept pitching out with Vlad, despite evidence to the contrary according to Oakland. None of our opponents are easy are going to roll over - Minnesota? *sighs* 6-5 is not great, but I will take that because it could've been much, mucho worse.
  7. Ohh this better not be a "Paul Quantrill-for-TWO-Paul Quantrill-s" type-of-thing. Word is he'd join by mid-to-late August. He seems to do fine for two innings. Heh?
  8. *shrugs* Business is business. Ultimately he'll probably be remembered as a Red Sox player.
  9. Got his hand caught in the cookie jar...what else is he supposed to do? I sincerely hope you were joking about the cure cancer part, though. Discussion for another time, but were PITCHERS clean during that era?
  10. Hey, have fun posting!
  11. A lot of trades have been shot down...no idea what's going over there - with Cashman, or Tampa faction, don't know. But if there's prospects involved (whatever litttttle we have left), it's probably not going to happen - cash is the more viable option. 95 wins, baby, let's do this! Looks like we're talking a page out of the Red Sox book and sticking Wright into the bullpen. Might work. Padres did try this. But still. Could it be worse than...Redding, May, Franklin, Gramin, Anderson, etc.? Take some pressure of TanGorMo. And we'll be needing looooooong-relief everytime Brown starts.
  12. Wow, that sure was an intelligent comment to make. Seriously, what is with insulting people's sexuality? :thumbdown Err...ok, I kinda forgot what this huge thread was all about...bash A-Rod, yeah ok. The team is dysfunctional enough withOUT his added mouth, would appreciate if he and Sheff just shut up, drive home 4 runs-per-night, then Yankee fans can call-out the other players on the team. STEP IT UP! *sighs*
  13. The NL West is a joke, even though I didn't really bother to read the notes, I think that division strength, as in the strength of your competitors factor into this - and the Padres should breeze right through their division. NL East is still up for grabs, Angels will be battling the A's, if not also the Rangers and uhh...I'm not commenting on the AL East.
  14. Hmm, arrogant Americans, I suppose that's to be expected. Japanese, lose the extra 'e', dear. LOL! EDIT: *chuckles* Okay, we get it. We suck. The article veers so off-topic into Yank-o-nomics, or something like that - I can't follow this spiel. But it ends with: Bwahaha... Giving CHB a run for his money for absolute crap!
  15. Sticking it in the General section because it covers every team. Hope is still alive - well, unless you're the Royals. Baseball Prospectus Postseason Odds
  16. Heh, I've heard him linked to the Yankees this offseason, that he would chops his locks if need be to play for Steinbrenner.
  17. Why is it called "World Series" if there's only one country in it? There are "international" players in MLB? Still doesn't make much sense though. In fact, when it was Yankees-Mets - that's one CITY...ok yeah, just wondered about that? :dunno: Over-analyze, much, yes.
  18. Well, ACTUALLY, maybe I've just seen some pretty bitter Yankee fans, but most of them are wishing he came around much sooner, and others are pretty unapologetic about getting all over him when he wasn't producing - if anything, they're sorry he took steroids to damage his body. But, gah, go back to - '00-'01 - most fans were probably salivating at the mouth over the thought of landing him. Uh no, he has not made any charity appearances, as far as D.A.R.E. or something...because then we'd all figure out exactly what he was "sorry" about...pretty vague you were, Jason! Explain the Mattingly shot there...the cover-up that he helped Giambi bat better? No, I would never insinuate that Ortiz, or any Red Sox player took anything; ya won it fair-and-square. But I mean, what about botched umpring calls - Cardinals fans will tell you about '85 against the Royals; "fair" is not a word that exists in sports. This is a different can of worms, but I don't think athletes should be role models, See Red; otherwise kids will think they should have silver spoons in their mouths. Pfft.
  19. *yawns* Wha...ASG "matters"? I didn't say he's the most talented, simply said he had one of the biggest hearts, and not egotistical at all - nothing wrong with rooting for the underdog.
  20. Not to completely side with the hold-out-ers, but in the NFL contracts are not guaranteed, and thus favor the teams because they can pretty much do whatever they want, cut the strings - and unless you're Peyton Manning, most players fear the day when they're on the chopping block. Athletes' salaries are a joke to begin with, agreed, so I don't want to hear about $14 mil not being enough to "feed your family", but if there's loyalty in a contract, it should be honored both ways. Gosh, if KB's salary wasn't guaranteed...(ok, I'll stop with the jabs, eventually)
  21. ME? Mind games? :dunno: Sorry? I was actually being kinda serious about that comment...him and Mark Cuban, the George Steinbrenners of their sports. Training camp opens this week. Was watching a piece on SC about Drew Rosenhaus (oh, that guy, he must be joking here!!) about hold-outs, obviously with the Javon Walker and T.O. thing getting press coverage, but there was also a small section on how nearly a dozen players (or something like that) NOT represented by Rosenhaus are holding out for new deals and have missed work-outs, like Patriots' Richard Seymour. There, it stayed on topic?
  22. Jerry Jones would have his team winning everything if his sport wasn't capped.
  23. Fine, even though I highly doubt what I say will change your opinion, but I'm going to say it anyways. If you've ever cheated on a test, would you want a scarlet "C" around your neck? And if you haven't, good for you, but if you have done something along the lines of that, I doubt you'd want a lapse in judgement in the seventh grade to be indicative of your character FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE! Bottom line, I don't put athletes on pedestals, one way or the other. The apology sounded a bit contrived for me - but what did you honestly expect - MLB sending them out to do public service announcements? And please don't stereotype Yankees fan; no, we don't want the rules rigged in our favor. No "fan" of any team in any sport would want that. My assessment of Giambi on this issue doesn't have anything to do with him being Yankee, doesn't even have anything to do with him being a baseball player - just a guy that messed up in life, and I'm going to give him another shot. Users in society - the ones who choose to fix their life - they're given another chance. Life is too short to be bitter - and if you pick your bitterness, there are other things than Giambi. Edit: Phooey tags! Edit 2: Sorry Giambi, didn't mean to compare you to a seventh grader. But with some players' intelligence, I wouldn't really know? *cough* Jose Canseco - what a narrative!
  24. AHAHAHA! I'm telling Cashman this - should definitely mop up that Yankee roster.
