  1. I know it's frustrating, but I would rather see a player sit rather than risk a serious injury - his was by no stretch life-threatening.
  2. ...I would secretly love to have Byrnesie in center. Now, to get the bad stuff outta the way, he does get some bad reads on the ball - and Capt. America sometimes overtracks and misses the ball by three feet - to which, doesn't matter if you're to slow, or to hyper, missing a ball is missing a ball, so really, what does that improve? WELL - He's certainly exciting to watch? AND, he and A-Rod would totally have stuff in common! (*cough* Varitek and base-running blunders) It's been a staple in the past for New York recruits Oakland players to complete its championship run (ok, so the scouting report on Giambi as the next Reggie Jackson was wrong, but still). *plays "Disco Inferno"*
  3. Yankee fans, join in on a round of Kumbaya, oh wait, that's "see", not "sing", silly me. R.J., Moose, Leiter (get that ERA around 4, and with A-Rod's six-run promise, we'll be fine), and...I'm gonna count Pavano in on this. Wang's TB-evaluated - Wright...hope you'll join us on the face of Yankee planet sometime. So might as well find out if any of the pitching prospects are worth a shot. :dunno: Just...put Crosby in center or something. What he gives up at the plate, maybe you'll get back in the field, and he's bound to make contact with *something* at one point. Move Bernie to DH and there'll be Giambi playing first, but if they make it to the World Series, he better sure up that defense come NL park time... No, that's not arrogant thinking, it's wishful!
  4. Hey, I'm all up for fun...however, when safety is jeopardized and there's desecration of public property, there's just no excuse. :thumbdown As a college basketball fan - Maryland fans need to get a life, as does Michigan State. You probably wouldn't think I'm not much fun to go to a rock concert with...but I'd like all my limbs in tact, thank you very much. Now, if I said I was a Cameron Crazie...it might contradict my stance on nonviolence, but I don't mind a VERBAL jab or two. One day, I shall be more creative in choosing which sports teams to root for...
  5. PSYCH! Doubtful he'll pitch in Fenway...unless he returns in pinstripes, which most likely will not happen - and I don't *want* that to happen. Stay in Texas for some credibility. Steinbrenner could've used that Hummer money to get another lightening-in-a-bottle pitcher, though. Oh we know you love your baseball, not trying to insinuate that all Red Sox fans are jerks. However, this is just the ultimate sign of respect from BaseballOutsider.com : Cards-Sox fans speak out in SI Forum.
  6. Sizzlin: I was joking! I sarcastically meant if postseason only need apply, then Jeter trumps Beltran in that department. I was referring to Cards fans not booing anyone. Those weren't Yankee fans who booed Rivera. Get it? At worst, you can say that he blew one World Series, cost us the opportunity of winning another one - but that's still what, 2-4. I'll take it. Other way of looking at it - they booed Jeter too when he was in that slump - it's NY, it's just tough love. STL's still the place to play! They even gave Renteria an ovation upon his return. "Should we boo...should we...nah, let's be classy about it!"
  7. Ok, it's fine to be cynical about any position other than starting pitching. Must tread verrrrry gingerly there...they're very delicate, ya know? If just one more guy goes down...YES might be in negotations to do a "So You Wanna Pitch for the Yankees" open-call audition thing. Maybe Leiter needed a change of scenery than that empty Dolphins Stadium. In what I like to call, anti-RJ-syndrome, perhaps he needs the rush, the pressure, the excitement that comes in NY...would make a nice Cinderella (if word is even appliable to a Yankee player) story, that guy who was brought up by the Yankees, ends his career with the Yankees... ^ Yes, it's said in the spirit of Yankee desparation...but it JUST might work! Lightening in a bottle - oh c'mon, give us a frickin' break! Next thing I know someone's gonna have gout! A-Rod...better pick up on that "six-runs per game" thingy you said; if you've noticed Yankee pitching is not exactly the A's.
  8. Of course, I know I know. At least he's "supportive", if not the to point of delusion, to his hometown team... Jay Mariotti pretty much tells the peeps in Chicago to give up hope - oh wait, there apparently was none to begin with!
  9. Oh, you are so qualified to speak on this subject, you-who-ogles-Keith Foulke's-wife? Are you so dense that you can't see the correlation between DJ'S ass movements with RISP?! ^ I'm just messing with ya, darling. :harhar: Personally, I prefer pitchers (unforunately, none of the current Yankees ones are all that). Pavano, where are you?? Ok, so what have we learned today...you can compromise your baseball allegiances, if only slightly, if you think a player from another team is...cute...ok, I've spoiled this thread.
  10. ^ I'm not even going to broach that topic; mainly because I don't follow the minors that much. Duncan's supposed to be one of the best 3B prospects. Hey you mean flailing around cash doesn't buy as much as it once did? Developing prospects is a new concept... *cough* Maybe one day Steinbrenner will learn that you can't buy a good house without a solid foundation. EDIT: ESPN is probably the equivalent to trade rumors, what SI Cover is to athletes' careers. *shuts up about entire Yanks fiasco* Ca$hman, name is just too ironic
  11. Not verbatim. I spot a "gorgeous" and an "adorable", but "cute". Is it just because it's referring to the Yankees that makes you sick? :dunno:
  12. Isn't Duncan the top prospect? No thanks to sabotaging the Yankees farm system, guys. The field has been salted enough.
  13. ^ And no more prospects!! Not so much budget; I think we've established that spending is not an issue here...
  14. HEY! The Yankees can't get behind in the free-agent market! What else can Steinney do to lure players to the Big Apple? Grass is sometimes greener on the side that doesn't include Yanks-Sox; it's certainly more pleasant. SI polls are not scientifically-valid, I presume. Greatest Player, according to 450 players surveyed. Carlos Beltran? One NLCS and that's it? At least Jeter has the intangible rings here!
  15. My my - on "Baseball Tonight", Gammons (and you know how often a Yankee fan disagrees with this guy) said he could have the second-half that Johan Santana did last year. I can live with that assessment. Shh...! However, last year Harden got a record 13 NDs, so the run support has to factor in sometime (give him like, three, and it's practically in the bag). EDIT: Weep, AL East contenders - He's a bargain, especially if he only get better.
  16. Yeah, Zito's curve seems to have its bite back. He start tonight; shall see if they can pack a 1-2 punch, like last time. I love how the two could push each other...Harden complimenting Zito on his curveball, while Zito reciprocates; his hardball is a change-up for the radar-gun-gunner. Harden's devleopment eased the break-up of the Big Three, and Beane hardly ever loses out on trades.
  17. Because seating is ample in Fenway, and prices are always reasonable, natch!
  18. Ever been to a Rockies game? Do they still play "Disco Inferno" when Eric Byrnes comes to bat? *waves* Hello...
  19. I seem to recall a Boston writer who called the AL East to be a Secretarist pull-away in favor of the Red Sox. We Yankees are just so humbled to be within an arm's length of the Red Sox...
  20. It's ok that I post a breather from Yanks-Sox chit-chat, right? Mr. Spluckle follow up his near-perfect game with another gem; 8 2/3 IP with 4 H, 1 R. And he's going against the two-front runners in the AL West, getting back the A's back into contention. 23 - and he's practically the ace of that staff.
  21. It's the little things too; applauding when a batter fouls off five pitches in a row, laying down a nice sac bunt, etc. Wherever there's credit, they'll give it its due! Aww, tough to be fans of the only AL West team that figures not to contend for a postseason bid. They actually booed their own pitcher when he walked Palmeiro in search of his 3,000th hit...cameras flashing, and than a walk! If you play for the Sox, especially if you're an outfielder, you can hide in the Green Monster when it gots hot. A-Rod story (he sure does get it from his old teams): I heard that some Mariners fans would hold out fishing poles, with a dollar bill through the hook whenever he came back...
  22. ^ Oh, ok, you're speaking for yourself. I was gonna say that I don't think a player care about how handsome his teammate is... High-maintanence vs. low-maintanence; how far will you compromise?
  23. The 5% might know once the two teams start a bidding war on them? Actually on a general note, I think STL's the best place to play. The atmosphere is just great (any Sox fans here go to Busch for the WS?)...they don't boo players when he strikes out; they don't even boo their opposition - will even throw in applause if they make a good play. Most knowledgable, polite fans in baseball, IMO. Leave some players for the teams west of the Mississippi, will ya? I think even some star players like Edmonds and Pujols (he's not leaving!) have taken pay-cuts just to stay there. In that sea of red...one half chants "PU", the other "JOLS". There's that Cubs-Cardinals rivalry, too, with the Cardinals having a pretty illustrious [winning] history. OH WELL! :harhar: ^ Yeah, I'm amnesiac about 2004 WS, mmkay?
  24. OH REALLY? Actually I think Oakland owns the looks department; nonetheless, welcome welcome!
  25. ^ I think baseball managers are taken the least seriously by the umpires (when compared to football and basketball coaches). And also by the commishes. When JVG "inconspiciously" alluded to referee watch on Yao Ming, he gets fined and that close to losing his job. We sure know Bud Selig cares about the integrity of his game, sure do...ok, he's making somewhat of an effort, now. Is the Rogers thing STILL dragging on...oh, another saga. There's a certain flow to baseball; whereas football is in itself a start-stop game, and basketball - well everyone calls time-outs that they don't have (yeah, I know that's a techincal, but it certainly feels that way), or SHOULDN'T have.
