Hey Sara, welcome to the boards. Gehrig's still my favorite Yankee. Phooey, I can't pinpoint the exact Cashman quote, but he stated that's not interested in shopping Cano and Wang (I suppose Duncan would be there too) - however, he ended by saying that it's not really his decision to make. If Steinbrenner only signs the check - who runs this organization - Darth Vader? Even though they would shell out cash instead of prospects, the Griffey Jr. trade is not likely happening. Hmph, Angels bullpen - if we only had a sliver of that. Seeing all these pitchers go down...is it a mechanics problem? Wright was injury-prone even in Atlanta, and there's no pitching coach better than Leo Mazzone - but what is it? :dunno:

Pitcher vs. Batter Matchups
YankeeDoodle replied to riverside sluggers's topic in Boston Red Sox Talk
AHAHAHAHA! -
Oh my gosh Crespo, you are just ALL over the Yankees organization and their fans, aren't ya? I'm getting Cashman a crystal ball. Nothing like having hindsight in the present.
-
Well then...by your previous post, where you said, "I'd like to see Giambi tested now." - are you asking them TO single out Giambi and other "steroid offenders"? The suspensions I agree are laughable, but what would make it clear enough to you (pardon the pun) that Giambi, or some other player suspected, is clean? Babe Ruth corked his bat. :dunno: I mean you just don't know what people do to get ahead of the curve - doesn't mean that I condone cheating, by any means. I guess this country is innocent until proven guilty...wait, no, not in baseball though. As much as I don't want a "cheater" to take credit for records that have been tainted, it's just as much of an injustice that a player who is clean, gets thrown into the flames of speculation, and all his accomplishments are discredited.
-
Flaherty worked with young pitchers in TB. To Posada's credit, he should fit in with Leiter is reminscient of...Andy Pettitte. *waves of nostalgia wash over*
-
BigPapiEnFuego: Steroid allegations are not to be taken lightly. Yes there's the whole SF Chronicle leak - but I seriously doubt he, or anyone in the league after seeing what happened to him, would risk another such damaging exposure. Unless there's substantiated proof, I think it's terribly unfair to chalk up a player's performance to steroids. Giambi's credited Yankees' hitting instructor Mattingly with helping him get out of the funk, and Mark McGuire, who doesn't like to watch baseball at all, tapes Giambi's at-bats and gives him tips, such as standing closer to the plate. We've all made mistakes, and second chances are hopefully a part of life. Thanks for really picking up the team, Jason, hopefully we'll get some pitching support (hehe) behind you guys, and even though the nay-sayers buried you in that New York pressure-cooker, keep up this performance and you'll have this whole city shushed and behind you. EDIT: bobby jr - he's probably among the top five players that MLB keeps tabs on, as far as performance-enhancing drugs. Do you want the results released or something?! Olympic testing...that sure cleaned up track and field.
-
I think RJ's lost-less when Flaherty catches him, so I'll take that. He and Posada do not get along, on the field...or off it for that matter.

CrespoBlows: For those arses that booed Rivera when he blew those first two saves against the BoSox, yes some "Yankee fans" stated that no one's immune to criticism, but many, many other said even he didn't notch another save in his career, they would never shun him. I want to make it clear that I'm not going to *boo* Bernie - sorry, sometimes frustration sets in, watching those balls drop in dead center. It's not lost in Yankee fans...or at least, me, what he's done for this organization, but he was not what he once was. But as much I as I value loyalty, sincerely I do, baseball is also business, and sometimes moving toward the future means letting go of the past. It would be sad to see Bernie don an uniform other than pinstripes, or Torre go one way or another (him and McCarthy - best Yankees managers), but eventually it will happen. There's talks of Joe Girardi being a possible replacement...somewhere down the line if he doesn't leave NY before that. Steinbrenner once acknowledged that it was a mistake to have let Reggie Jackson go. *gasp* WHAT? Regret a move? Why, I never...! Economics, Yankees style PLAYER SALARY (US$) 1. Alex Rodriguez $25,705,118 2. Derek Jeter $19,600,000 3. Mike Mussina $19,000,000 4. Kevin Brown $15,714,286 5. Randy Johnson $15,419,815 6. Jason Giambi $13,428,571 7. Bernie Williams $12,357,143 8. Gary Sheffield $11,496,689 9. Jorge Posada $11,000,000 10. Mariano Rivera $10,500,000 11. Carl Pavano $9,000,000 12. Hideki Matsui $8,000,000 13. Al Leiter $7,241,931 14. Jaret Wright $5,666,667 15. Tom Gordon $3,750,000 16. Felix Rodriguez $3,150,000 17. Tino Martinez $2,750,000 18. Tony Womack $2,000,000 19. Ruben Sierra $1,500,000 20. Tanyon Sturtze $850,000 21. John Flaherty $800,000 22. Rey Sanchez $600,000 23. Bubba Crosby $332,950 24. Andy Phillips $317,200 Total Team Salary: $205,938,439 KB'S IN THE TOP FIVE?! Should surpise me...but it doesn't. Tek: On the psychological mindstate of the Yankee fans - to paraphrase Steinbrenner, losing is something Yankees don't intend on practicing anytime soon. I think people forget before that championship run at the end of the 90's - the Yankees weren't that good; the 80's were mediocre, and the early 90's - didn't make the playoffs. Now the bar is set ASTRONOMICALLY high - but I suppose that this team's reach will always exceed their grasp.
-
New York fans are supposedly the best in the world...they just have strange ways of showing their affection at times. I'm skeptical at their performance at times - but does being delusional about mediocrity do any good? Not that I agree or condone, but the pressure and heat in NY is what it is - thrive or die. I know you guys love picking on the YES Board, but I don't know that you've ever checked out the NYYFans.com Board. They're fickle at times - ok A LOT of times, but they're "Yankee fans" through and through - and if this team's gonna suck...humor me. If you love to see Yankee fans eat crow, definitely check out some of the apology threads, the thank-you so-and-so for this performance...there's a "I'm Sorry Jason" thread over there - well, less than a quarter are sorry, the majority are sorry that he didn't do this earlier...and the rest...*cough* sorrythathedidsteroids 1. Funny that you should mention relievers; many "Yankee fans" have complained Torre overuses his bullpen, especially in situations that aren't necessary, such a blow-outs. Why does it seem that whenever we hand the lead to Flash, he just blows it?! (I was being sarcastic There's already a 13-page firestorm on this... 2. Irony. KB is not worth waxing on. 3. Jeter: 2004, 0-32 slump - got ugly. Williams - apparently "True Yankees" due not age. Posada - ditto and BLOCK THE PLATE! And speed up the bat while you're at it...yes, no one is immune. I think Steinbrenner has been trying to lay-low, if that makes any sense. What did he say, silence is brilliance? Please bear with us while we adjust to being sub-par; these few years have been a new experience. (So we've been spoiled, there, you have it.) EDIT: In the words of Bernard Russell, "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."
-
No kidding. I remember ESPN picking the best things about each division, and pretty much the only category we weren't good at in the AL East was fielding (would we be this bad...that remained to be seen). And then there's the WS predictions; Yankees-Cardinals, or Braves, or something, but the majority had the Yankees in there. Now not ONE writer on ESPN picks the Yankees to make the postseason...I guess it's not "early" anymore, is it?
-
Vinny's shirt? Umm, this is official Nike gear! I thought I saw a commercial by Nike celebrating the Sox breaking the curse - pick a side already. http://www.footballfanatics.com/images/products/FF114802-xl.jpg And there's a baseball cap of that, too: http://www.footballfanatics.com/images/products/FF110297-s.jpg Start placing your order...lol, I saw this a couple months ago, and it just flew off the racks at the MLB store. I also saw a "Even Idiots Get Lucky" shirt too...harhar.
-
If RJ had his stuff consistently, if Wright didn't disappear of the face of the baseball planet, ditto with Pavano, if Bernie had something left in the tank, if Tino didn't slump so badly, IF injuries would just give us a break - I think the Yankees totally own in this "if" department you are talking about. 26-6: Did you see the Yankees "Numbers Don't Lie" t-shirt?
-
It's been a staple to go to find Oakland players and bring them to the Bronx for championships, huh? Giambi didn't turn out as billed, though. Cashman, Tampa, George and his du jours of the moment...this year tops as how to spend $200 mil+ and solve nothing.
-
Well in the 21st century it's tied at 1-1, so we'll see where it goes from here. Wonderful...the Yankees leadership role has now shifted to KB. Please, just for once, leave the first inning unscathed.
-
They probably will; everyone else in that division is a pretender or just plain-out floundering.
-
C'mon Yankees...win some more, and I'll let you shout "HELL NO!" in CHB's face, ok? Poetic justice that KB's going tonight to prevent this season from sliding downhill again. With a 7.45 ERA in seven road starts. *hides brooms*
-
Moose: Refer to edit for props. Happy? :dunno:
-
There is little gas left in Bernie's tank; PH him if necessary, keep Giambi at 1B - or DH-ing him is a possibility, and get Tino to play first. Did I just say that? There will be no Griffey trade. Nonononono. Use Crosby as a plug in CF for now; pitching is still the problem - I'm afraid the arms are going to fall off in the bullpen (*cough*FLASH) if the SP doesn't get it together soon. Crosby "attempted" a play in center where the ball ultimately leaped out of his glove - but that he even got there is saying something about his speed and range.
-
LOL, of course I knew about Dodgers-Giants, but that's divisional, not interleague. I hear Oakland fans despise Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (of United States of North America, we know, we know), but that's once again divisional, although they have something with the Giants as a Bay Area thing.
-
Well interleague in baseball is really something for the fans (which may be the point); there's not really a rivalry between Yankees-Mets or Cubs-White Sox, as there is in Yankees-Red Sox and Cubs-Cards... EDIT: And the best rivalry of them all...Dodgers-Giants!! Only one to have switched coasts! This guy learned from David Stern, goodness. Expect to see Sidney Crosby's face plastered to anything and everything hockeyhockeyhockey (cute face, but what's with leagues riding the hopes on kids - Adu, now Crosby? :dunno: ) The NHL canceled it just so players could go and represent their country if they choose to - *cough* they're not like the NBA players? Now that the game will speed up, will they bring back the glowing puck? Two pages on the NHL! Apparently we care enough to not care.
-
^ Huh? Oh sure thing - "strengthening rivalries", ok Bettman...desparate much? Bettman begs fans to return Btw, there will be no NHL ASG due to 2006 Winter Olympics.
-
Was this necessary though? Jeter doesn't taunt the fans; he loves going on the road and doesn't mind when people boo the Yankees - but all bets are off when projectiles are thrown.
-
Yeah, I guess you're right. If I had a better way, wouldn't be sitting here right now. They're exciting - as a soccer fan I can't deny that (yeah, that's right) until they pan over to the rest of the team just sitting there on the field, holding hands, afraid to look. If defense wins championships, then shoot-outs place defense-oriented teams at a disadvantage; if they have great defenders to keep the opponents from scoring, but have forwards that can't score a lick. :dunno: Oh, and I thought I'd mention this to you Red Sox fans who hate A-Rod (the majority?) - David Beckham is much, much worse. The NHL thinking about expanding the number of play-off teams - right, the regular season has to mean less than it already does.

Red Sox Fan Who Loves Alex Rodriguez
YankeeDoodle replied to ILuvTerry's topic in Boston Red Sox Talk
If vegetarians allow themselves to eat meat once in awhile, then any other divided allegiance doesn't surprise me. -
Some people argue that it's as much apart of hockey as arguing with the umpire is in baseball. But there was one player who took a blind-sided punch and ended up paralyzed - so I would not be opposed to enforcing rules against fights. Shoot-outs are a mix bag for me. If it's a team game...it completely ruins the point. It'd be like kicking field goals back and forth (and the Patriots would probably still win).
