  1. Would he wear the "C" on his uniform? I think one is enough...
  2. I hope he feels well; he makes some of the most spectacular catches I've seen.
  3. What's that, ten "LET'S TEST GIAMBI NOW" banners? What makes you think they don't? Watching the Orioles-White Sox game last night, and they had a "Congrats Raffy on 3,000 hits" banner hanging in Camden. Sucks for the fans.
  4. No kidding...yeah, if it's a mechanical problem, if it's a mechanical problem, not expecting Stottlemyre to correct it. Wells said something along the lines that Stottlemyre was the best pitching coach he ever had? *huffs* But then you ask all the guys that got shipped out of NY - and I think it speaks for itself that the situation isn't working. Not to mention he evaluated Wang's pitching one day, and everything was "fine", and then the next Wang's shoulder is discovered to be inflammed and he's on the DL. So, the only plausible scenario in which Stottlemyre isn't at fault here would be Wang hiding his discomfort; otherwise, it's his responsibility to make sure his pitchers are takenc are of.
  5. I think it's the pro league. Try and convince Sheff to play one extra series...it'll have to be made mandatory from Steinbrenner himself, contractually sealed, because he seems adament against any extra playing time.
  6. After the steroids fiasco, I read in an article that Giambi has to monitor what substances - I'm guessing this includes foods and supplements, he can take into his body. The second time around, if performance enhancing drugs could put your life in jeopardy - why, WHY would anyone take them?? Second, if he took this, the NY media would completely go kapoot on him. A concern was that Giambi was too sensitive to media and fan reaction, so sure, it makes a lot of sense for him to put himself in exactly the same scrutinizing position. Plus if there is something fishy going on, it'll be sniffed out. And lastly, frankly I don't think Giambi could've commented on Grand Jury Testimony - which shouldn't have been leaked. Isn't he under FEDERAL ORDER or something to keep his mouth shut? Edit: And given how the Yanks tried to wiggle their way out of his huge contract, maybe they just added a clause that second time it happens - you're gone?
  7. Hmm, well it's all hearsay until someone coughs up something. Niiice series Giambi; congrats on 300 HR. Or however many that is once you subtract the steroid era total.
  8. Oakland is hot right now...I don't think anyone is going to sweep them. If good pitching shuts down good hitting; the A's staff is downright nasty. How's Payton doing? Well boo-hoo "rest of AL East", you saw your crack in the door and it's too bad you didn't stick your foot in it. ALCS, part 3 is harder to do this year. The AL East coming to the wire doesn't mean that the teams in it (be is Boston or New York, they have issues) are good, but it's a dogfight of teams with lots of holes in it, compared to the division leaders in the AL Central (if the White Sox don't prove to be the 2001 Mariners) and in the AL West. Take the East Coast bias out of it, and one has to admit the rest of the league IS BETTER.
  9. HEYA! Welcome. I've seen you around the board. You're nice. Yeah, it should be a good race...sorta, of the most flawed teams in the AL trying to get a playoff berth in ths division.
  10. You're right. It's 7%.
  11. I still love Ecks the best though... Wow, the Angels didn't blow two consecutive saves since 2002. Fluke, no fluke, for anyone to get to K-Rod, I'll take it! WOMACK? Wow, for him to be key in both wins...heh, that's a surprise. The Twins have been struggling offensively; that's why it's surprising they didn't get another bat, with Boone still trying to find his offense, and now Torii Hunter's out. I'm not taking away everything from the Red Sox, but hey if you're going to bring up that the Angels "beat themselves", then the Twins offensive woes has to at least factor into some of this. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good.
  12. I read a piece on Steinbrenner in the current "ESPN the Magazine", and there's a little piece on how... Cashman was working on a deal for Vlad to NY, and Steinbrenner was intent on signing another player - I think it was Sheffield - and told Cashman to end negotiations. Now, there's no telling if the deal would've happened even if it ran due course...but we got a chance at Vlad? WHAT?! THAT would've fixed this team a lot, a whoooole lot.
  13. Here it comes... YEAH I KNOW! But this what Brian "Statue of Libery" Cashman got him for. ONE batter, Embree, ONE batter, that's ALL we're asking for! Umm, I think next Yanks-Sox meeting isn't for awhile, end of August or maybe September. And they'll be keeping him around if this is what they're planning on doing...if they find they right bullpen order, TanGorMo with some F-Rod and co., it could good enough. They traded Groom today.
  14. Well that's not saying much. Because the AL East is the weakest of the three AL division - and with the exception of the NL West, it's probably the weakest of all the divisions in MLB. Are you CHB in disguise? Because it's not over until it's over (as in, mathematical standings here), and seeing as how flawed both teams are, with Baltimore in free fall, no one's blown it wide open. And for 200 mil's worth, not even making it into the postseason would be a catastrophic disapointment, and even that would be understating it. Yeah ok, you guys can go back and have your fun. Maybe I'll start a NEW YORK IS ON TOP OF THE WORLD thread when we're leading by 1/2 game.
  15. Well from Buster Olney keeps harping on ESPN that the Yankees "feel good" about Embree's performance - mainly because he had the velocity. Soooo... Psst - the Yanks plan is to use Embree as a left-hand specialist against David Ortiz. Err...heh? Get him out, and dude, you'll earn your pinstripes.
  16. Very small. Don't they not have sales tax there?
  17. I'm sorry dear, StottleFIRED will be gone next year...maybe, maybe. Well he was supposed to LAST offseason, but no, no, it didn't happen. Comerica Park is a pitcher's park, so maybe that factors into that? Well then again, I'm not sorry. Pavano and Wright signed big contracts under the last season assumption that NL pitchers with good seasons could make the adjustments to the AL, help this team, and so far it's been a big disappointment seeing as the only "young" pitcher that amounted to anything this year was C-M Wang - which came out of the farm system. So far you and Wright have parked yourselves onto the bandwagon, and if you want to WRIGHT it, get healthy and start pitching. I think some fans , and players I guess, have forgotten the years when this franchise has STRUGGLED - is that a foreign word now? Edit: "Someone on the Tigers"...no direct quote? And what is he doing telling "someone on the Tigers" while he's on the DL?? WHAT?!
  18. Hey! Hope you have a good time!
  19. Oh you guys...I get, I get it. Surprising, Hammer? I do enjoy a good underdog story, but I just can't help it. There's just something about being the team where ALL the animousity is directed toward you... :dunno: Hmm, I don't mind the other Texas schools as I do THE Texas University. Mainly it's a baseball thing though. However, I will root for them whenever they play Oklahoma - this is the year...EVERY year is the year when they're supposed to beat Oklahoma...and they DON'T! Yeah, college football games are crazy. I've heard Husker fans were treated terribly by the Sooners down in Norman - they got pelted by ORANGES or something (look how that turned out) and who carries BB guns into a stadium, anyways? Pssh, this is year to take it to them!
  20. Howdy from Maine? LOL. Hiya, welcome to the site, have fun posting!
  21. Next thing you tell me, is that you're a Longhorn? Nah, even so we can still be friends. It would be foolish to dismiss Carolina as anything but a formidable opponent, any year, seeing as powerhouses don't rebuild but reload, so it should be a "fun" time. Last time Duke came to Chapel Hill, a Tar Heel had the ball with about 20 secs left, and stepped out of bounds to end the game...
  22. Would the Braves be considered a dynasty? Some people have knocked Cox and Mazzone for not winning the postseason every year - 1/13 good enough? And that's 13 consecutive division titles, working on number 14.
  23. Tex...that was your fellow Red Sox friend! Can you read me the UNC roster this year? And what's with Roy-Roy offering goods to graduates at KU? Will he ever have graduates at UNC? Ugh, Maryland. :thumbdown I recognize that screencap - that was the one year when we didn't OWN the ACC tourney. Pssh, this year, the strategy of mobbing Redick and letting everyone else beat is not going to work. AHAHA, JJ flailing his arms...poor dear. We got reinforcements this year. Edit: Some Terp fan runs a site, "Truth About Duke" - and he posted a slow-mo of JJ picking his nose on the sidelines. Seriously, get a life!
  24. ...I love Byrnes, hair on fire running through the outfield - but hopefully he's gotten some wisdom, because it's either hit or miss three feet away. Have fun in Camden!
  25. PAINFUL. Choke? That was the problem in the past, that as good and as much heart as Duhon and Ewing had, they didn't have the natural instincts at PG, which Paulus as an All-American should have no problems with. I liked what I saw out of Nelson, once he gets the fouls down, which really hurt the group as whole last year. It's funny to see what Shav is doing with his "NBA career", after throwing a hissy fit about not seeing enough time next year. And who drafts Charlie Villaneuva that high, anyways? Both teams are better without their prima-donnas. :thumbdown Oh look at this; it's turning into a Duke-UNC basketball thread, and for all we know therealsoxGM might be a Wake fan! He's too busy GM-ing in the Rumors section? :dunno:
