Sosa was out, by a mile - and that play could've seriously injured Barajas. He knew the plate was going to be blocked - and yes, any attempt at trying to jar to ball from the catcher's glove is dangerous, but to throw his cleat up in the air - that's something Cobb-like, intentional or not.

Well in his case Sosa apologized afterward, calling the Rangers club, and Barajas being classy said he didn't think any less of Sosa for it, but that the play should not have happened. I didn't read more about Guillen, though.
I've said this before, but I think it's actually surprising from a factual standpoint, that more pitchers don't get hit by line drives. They're hit directly at the pitcher - I've seen a couple web gems that had they not been caught upon immediate reflex, it could've been ugly - and especially in college where alumininum bats are used.
