Why did he bench LeBron though?
I felt that NBA players were in a Catch-22; win, and it's been to be expected (there'll never be another Dream Team), but lose, and they're accused of being ex-patriots. The players that actually bothered to go obviously were interested in representing their country, but unfortunately it was not a pleasant experience, and I just hope players like Tim Duncan will not be disheartened the next time around.
I can't remember the name of the guy who now heads the U.S. Olympic Basketball operations, but supposedly he's really good. And now that they figure out they can't exactly assemble a team in two months, they're considering inviting college players to the squad, and asking for a committment.
Sheff's being Sheff, but I think the clubs should have somewhat of a say in this. With the BWC, it's supposedly a spring training type of thing, but still, there's a risk of injury, and right or wrong, I can understand maybe some owners not wanting to take that risk. Not to mention international competition can be exhausting; Yao Ming has said that he wants more time off to condition rather than compete in the summer for his country all the time.
