  1. Old news, bud, old news. http://www.talksox.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3713 Tell me something I don't know? :dunno:
  2. Correct me if I'm wrong, but fans owning a sports franchise isn't legal; Packers fans' stocks aren't worthy anything but a nice momento, and they can cash it in for $20 if they want. Wow, buying the competition, sure sounds like a team I am quite familiar with. And who would you guys feed on? Edit: Don't judge all Yankee fans on several asshat comments. We all wish Matt the best.
  3. SHH! Yeah, I know, Griffey Jr. comes to mind. Some people say that if he put the bat down today, he'd be a first-ballot HOF-er. Didn't bother to read the middle pages, so if I get something wrong, do correct me, but I seem to have glanced at "steroids"? If he was put in the hall, he'd be only the ten-worst guy or so from a behavior, personality, and ethics standpoint. *cough* Ty Cobb
  4. Yeah, you guys sure do start the trends. Wood's situtation is different from Schilling's; they don't even know when and if he'll ever go back into the starting pitching rotation - some mechanical problems are taking a toll on his arm. Shame though; when he pitched that absolute gem of a game '98 against the Astros when he struck out TWENTY!! Fastball was vapor... Cubs will definitely need Prior to stay healthy.
  5. Wright should be back most definitely at the start of next season; giving him bullpen work sometime in August is what they're looking at. Might not be such a bad idea since he does well for two innings, then uhh...we'll bring in F-Rod, or TanGorMo, or some other relievers. BBB, go enjoy the generous 401k plan the Yankees gave you somewhere else. Shoo shoe!
  6. You guys might not like me too much for this, but oh well - HAPPY 30th, A-Rod! Now, stat time - where A-Rod stands at age 30, compared to the all-time leader when he was 30: HRs: Hank Aaron -342 A-Rod - 409 RBI: Hank Aaron - 1121 A-Rod - 1176 Hits: Pete Rose - 1540 A-Rod - 1825 Runs: Rickey Henderson - 1058 A-Rod - 1197 That does a lot talking. :dunno: Edit: I should note that this is not the "all-time-leader-AT-age 30" - and production kinda tapered off. But even if I posted THAT list, A-Rod would probably be in the top five. He's number one in HRs.
  7. WANG? I mean, WHO KNEW? Spend all that dough on NL pitchers who supposedly would make the smooth transition - and half of them are on the DL in the first-half, and it's a rookie with a paltry salary compared to those guys, who ends up being the best pitcher for the Yankees. What's wrong with this picture here... I'm sure when the Yankees sign pitchers, they better have some caliber. But then...sorry Javy Vasquez? :dunno: Is it Stottlemyre? What IS it?! Buh-bye BBB, 2006. Wang's had shoulder surgery before this, so I hope it's not an aggrevated condition. Delivery seems to be fine, so it's weird why he would have these problems - what else is new that's unknown to the Yankees?
  8. *sighs* Not winning here...S-T-R-U-G-G-L-I-N-G! Argh. Getting Posada and RJ to face each other - that's why even if Flaherty has no offense, another in-house confrontation is avoided. Barely. Of course, I also hear A-Rod and Sheff yapping it up about the "adversity" they faced in the first half, and how they're a "closer" team for it. I call it underperforming for 200 mil, but call they can it whatever they want so long as the runs get ringed up.
  9. Reports say that Brown has indeed accepted the Knicks head-coaching job. Announcement expected to come today. Welcome to New York, Larry. Your childhood dream fulfilled. Sorry the Knicks have no cap room. But you'll be polishing up those rocks soon enough. We don't mind baggage...have plenty of that - you'll fit right in! BTW, the Knicks are reportedly paying him up to $12 mil/year - that would make him the highest paid coach in all of sports.
  10. I don't trust reports on Wang...poor kid to have Mel evaluating him. Hmph. Hope he gets well soon. I was thinking that if I duct-taped BBB and Wright together, I might actually get an effective start. But BBB is now back on the DL. Hmph. Pavano get his rehab start pushed back. Will see how he will do. Hmph. Get F-Rod some work. Hmph. -Desparate Yankee fan
  11. Mets are going to turn into the Yankees if they pursue big contracts with no production... *cough* Where ya at, Beltran?? It's unlikely that Sori will be moved; heard on "Cold Pizza" that the Texas Rangers Owner loves him. We do, too. But if you're coming here again...START HUSTLING!
  12. Of course; this doesn't even need to be said, that everyone's wishes are with Matt. No fan of baseball just in general would ever want to see a player injured like that. Thoughts and prayers are with Matt, his family and friends, Red Sox teammates, organization, and fans as he will hopefully make a speedy and full recovey.
  13. Uhh...technically you CAN'T argue balls and strikes - doesn't stop some managers from trying though. Rule 9 But baseball is a psychological game, I guess, so "arguing" is not done to get the current call, but perhaps to "influence" the ump in future calls. Sometimes a fairly new umpire might expand the strikezone if an experienced manager gets on him throughout the game. Not sure if this is a scientifically-valid study, but this guy did try and find the managers best at getting calls going their way. Arguing Balls and Strikes: The Most Influential Managers I heard Joe Torre once got purposely tossed from a game (that obviously didn't matter much), because a veteran ump was retiring, and as story goes, Torre wanted to be the last guy he threw out!
  14. Line-drives are hit almost directly at the pitcher, so yeah, it really is quite surprising - in a good way, that it hasn't happened before, and hopefully they won't happen. Seen quite a few close calls that without instant reflexes could've easily landed the pitcher on the DL. Yeah, I could easily tell on SC that there were more Red Sox fans than D-Rays fans present. But you guys have the most away attendance in MLB, anyways. Poor Tampa fans. I mean, literally, POOR, to compete in the AL East. IluvmannyRamirez is a HE?
  15. LMAO, I won't ask about your personal collection of "smilies". Hey, at least when Rivera serves it up - he still has class. Represent us well.
  16. You must look in the weirdest places for those emoticons...
  17. Great job, Mad Dog. 300+ wins, and now 3,000 strikeouts - quite an accomplishment! What's more is that he's a control pitcher, not one to throw heat. Maddux takes different path to 3,000 Ks Cubbies are gonna need ya now that Wood is BACK on the DL (bullpen?).
  18. Just wanted to say I hope Clement makes a full recovery! CT scan came back negative.
  19. Well about Erickson - HE GONE! Yeah I know, just thought I'd *mention* the stat; he did get drafted in the same year Brady did. For your sake, I hope the 49ers disarray doesn't continue for long.
  20. schillingouttheks: What's insured is that ridiculous check he's getting. BLAH! AHHHHH! Not to totally overreact; Pavano's rehab start is only pushed back until tomorrow, and BBB shouldn't have come off the DL in the first place. And now RJ might have a slight "tweak", but he's still going. So that makes Mussina the only guy who feels fine, at least by all outward appearances. Small, be BIG for us. As huge as Wang was in the first-half (I'm in no mood to joke). So, SP stands at (and not in order that they go in): Moose RJ Leiter Small ????? I miss you, Andy. I really do. Please don't let us get stricken the pitching plague ANYMORE!
  21. Well...so long as he doesn't turn out to be another Californian-QB-flop *cough* RYAN LEAF Then again, anyone, ANYONE is a success compared to him. Didn't Young take a lot, A LOT of crap after Montana left...and Young was pretty good - eventually brought them a Super Bowl title - but he was never Montana, and for a long time SF fans didn't let that go. Smith's situation is different than Young's; the heights the franchise has fallen from. Heard this stat on "NFL Live": Tim Rattay has less wins than Tom Brady has Super Bowl wins...three. So they really needed help in that department. I guess Rodgers is kinda guy-in-the-wings that Young was in.
  22. Don't say that...I'm sure some members have Photoshop...and the possibilities are endless. *shields eyes*
  23. I don't think Ramirez's performance would be called into question, but as far as the Mets needing run production - WHERE'S BELTRAN? Lost in all the Yankees disaster this season, he has flown under the radar, whereas Rodriguez was practically buried last year, despite outperforming Beltran in his first season in the Big Apple. The Mets front-office has to string together something that is fiscally feasible (lest they actually DO turn into their town rivals) AND have the performance goods to back it up.
  24. Oakland is pretty fun...oh wait, that was before I caught the salary accommodation part. (No, it's not a slight at the A's, it's just how Beane runs the place.)
  25. LOL @ that one, think I ripped a stitch. OK - so that y'all stop thinking every Yankee fan and the NY media are completely oblivious to Giambi's past... Giambi must step to plate
