  1. No, apparently according to ESPN's Jayson Stark, we went after Jose Lima first. He's like Kevin Brown, only healthy, with probably even a more rockin' ERA - how's that for "equal value"? But coming off that extra-inning win against the Chi Sox, the Royals probably felt they were still in this thing, plus they did sweep the Yankees this year, therefore they felt all haughty and didn't go through with the trade. Don't know any specifics as to what bait the Yanks dangled. Ok, seriously...first Griffey Jr., now LIMA - what's going on with the FO here? According to Stark the Yanks are going to sit tight through the trade deadline. Which means he doesn't know anything.
  2. The past couple WS winners have been WCs. Can't bother to check the official stat, meh. Uhh, like to keep this AL East thing going, but the AL West has some serious contenders in the Angels and the A's. So it's hard to go 1-2 in whatever order this year. Angels went 18 innings against the Jays - thanks for using up that bullpen guys! We'll actually have a chance!
  3. Nothing ventured, nothing gained! Somehow I feel more scared at the Yankees pitching rotation than Christopher Columbus sailing off the face of this earth...
  4. MLBPA has so much leverage these days *cough* Rogers' appeal, sure something could be hammered out? Oh don't tell me you're not even slightly curious as to the conversation that might transpire between the two? I don't have a vendetta against Palmeiro - pssh, I can imagine an Oriole pitcher checking back to first FIVE times even though Canseco is no threat to steal... Back to question, it fixes the Yankees because yes, it just might be the winning plunk! Btw, I think Sheff is hitting .390 something with RISP. Sick stat. Have Canseco on base, and there you go. Got any tips for Jeter?
  5. Oh my gosh. You're not writing a resume, are you? Especially since I have caught the "short attention span syndrome" from some of these posters (Sizzlin, you know it), I shall be reading this at my own leisure. Would it hurt to indent though? Such as pitchers staying, going, going to the DL... Would it be safe to assume addition by subtration in some cases? Is Rivera the only pitcher left from that late 90's championship run? WOW. I saw David Cone today on a TV piece...what's he been up to? Wright is on the 60-day DL, I think - sometimes guys stay on the 15- forever if their roster spot isn't needed, but well, pitching has been a revolving door this season. Remember when last summer, no one wanted to make the Posada-for-RJ trade? We can't buy, we can't sell.
  6. Oh ok, you just explained a lot in one post. Have fun posting! Why not ask - you know who's cap Boggs is going in with? I heard he wanted to go in with the Red Sox, but he rode a friggin' HORSE with the Yankees! Doesn't that account for anything? :dunno: It'll be televised sometime on ESPN Classic, can't quite remember the date - you'll have to help me out on that one, too!
  7. Yes, Cassie does, of course. Must be the richest "underdog"... He has a black-belt in karate or tae kwan do or whatever, so I doubt he'll need your defense, but I'm sure Alex appreciates the thought.
  8. Wait, didn't Canseco say that Clemens was the only guy in baseball not to cheat on his wife? Better yet, I'd like to see Clemens drive that burnt orange Hummer down South Bronx... I know you would like to see her in pinstripes (and you pervs would want to see her out of it, too). Who was the one Mets player's wife who said if he ever cheated, she'd sleep with the entire clubhouse? Canseco would draw free walks, because half of the pitchers would bean him up! Been having problems with RISP, but the more ppl you can load the bases with, the better? Can you imagine facing the O's...Palmeiro? He would NOT be the answer in the OF though, AGREED!
  9. You would probably know more about the minors than I would but "win now" is the Yankees motto, and though they're not giving up Duncan until something great deal presents itself that obviously isn't Baez or Jose Lima (!!), they need some arms. Don't we need a left-hander in there? F-Rod's coming back, so maybe he can help out Sturtze in the seventh (and Groom?). Btw, since you might be more familar with the Yankees farm system, would Navarro have developed into something? Hindsight hasn't handed in the verdict yet, but a growing concern is at catcher - where in a few years there may be that gaping hole presently seen at center.
  10. Seem to have forgotten that Chacon pitched at Coors, so stats might be a little inflated, not in his favor. I hear he's good at holding runners, which is fantastic, since a) Other than Moose, the rest suck and Posada throwing out runners...which is quietest 29% I've seen.
  11. Yankees don't win anything. Not anymore. Would gladly take a team award over some individual thing, though. No, relievers usually don't win unless there's not a clear-cut starter. Gagne won one? That's all I can remember. Might pull up stat sometime when I'm more motivated. Probably gonna be (with Halladay out) Buerhle, Garland, or someone. While we're on the award note though, last three times the Yankees have had a player finish in the top three in ROY voting, we've gone to the WS. Jeter 1996 - 1 Soriano 2001 - 3 Matsui 2003 - 2 So Obi-Wan, I salute you for coming in and performing under tremendous adversity, none of which was your fault. But you're a Yankee, so you probably won't win. Sorry kid. :dunno: I like Huston Street though; 21 year old closer, and if they get into the play-offs, this guy's got the stuff. Back to Mo and awards, he has a shot at the Rolaids Relief one, which I'll dig up the stats on that one later, too...
  12. Pitching is not this team's expertise. But I would think that if they sent two prospects over, the FO must think that they cannot help the team in ANY way, or else they would've kept them. I don't see Wang coming back - evaluation's probably another two weeks, and even then, I'm not sure he'll be ready. In any case, I would rather he sit out the rest of this season, and be fully healthy for next 2006 - got KB's roster spot penciled in for ya! The Yankees were toying with the idea of rehabbing Wright in the pen - he's good for an inning or two. Some long-relief might actually work if starting is too much. SP rotation then: RJ Moose Leiter Small Chacon There's no room for bullpen help - which, TanGorMo[F-Rod] works for now, but the reason that they got worn out was because starters couldn't go deep, and by looks of Flash's arm, it's similar to the siutation in 2004. Oh right, we have Nomo. Mo, we love ya. Has anyone noticed that you've only managed your best season yet, among the torrid pitching performances this season? You're the rock, and we just hope that we can get to you in 9th for a save situation. BTW, I smelled crap every time KB was on the mound. Heh. Wouldn't be another day in Yankees' gripe land if you didn't let BBB know how much HE STUNK IT UP!
  13. Oh. Dear. Here we go again. Who's starting on Saturday, do you know? Edit: Well perhaps I should actually read the article before I hit submit...hmm, ok, sure thing. Is he going up against Washburn? I'll look up the pitching match-ups sometime later. No Colon though, that's what I remembered. Phew. Angels still own us. OK - I was right...it is Washburn - and the rest of the match-ups against LAA: July 29 Ervin Santana (5-4, 5.64) Mike Mussina (10-5, 3.83) July 30 Jarrod Washburn (6-6, 3.28) *TBA (n/a) July 31 Paul Byrd (9-7, 4.10) Randy Johnson (11-6, 3.95) The Moose has been pitching, that's good, and RJ looked excellent last outing. *gasp* We can win this series? Well, I'm not calling it just yet. *If that is Chacon, a 1-7 record with a 4.09 ERA in the NL is a bit alarming. But being in pinstripes will work wonders, maybe.
  14. Oh Crespo...obscure Yankee players, haven't you heard that they help out the most? To quote what I posted in the "Yankees CF Trade Rumors section": http://www.nypost.com/sports/50947.htm He is, with any hope, our new CF! YUSS!
  15. Ahh, that would be Nationals player rounding third, Jose Guillen. And I remember Darin Erstad having a home-plate collision with Johnny Estrada that really riled the Braves. Sometimes it's close; other times it's not-so-close, but it always hurts. It almost makes me sympathize with why Posada hardly ever blocks the plate. Almost.
  16. Oh my gosh, at first I saw blue and I thought it was the Cubs, and I'm like, "Wow, bitter much?" Someone called it a Ty Cobb-like play...says it all in itself.
  17. Speaking of OUCH! - did anyone see Sosa slide into Rangers catcher Rod Barajas? He was out by a mile or so - and suddenly he kicks his leg into the air and the cleat goes into the chest/arm area. You have to see the video to determine for yourself if it was just another danger that comes along with blocking the plate - or if it was a dirty one. Barajas is sitting out tonight's game for obvious reasons.
  18. Nick Saban worked under Bill Belichick, so I guess it applies, through six degrees of separation. No crying in football? Welcome to the NFL moment? Nick Saban makes rookie cry - the video was playing over and over on SC. Well, if he cries, chances are he cares, and maybe he'll just turn out to be on the best players in the game.
  19. A bit presumptous, maybe, but hey hype is what they do - ESPN Page 2's "Future HOF-ers" currently active Jeter before Rodriguez, ahaha. Mussina's a guy that Yankee fans have debated that is borderline. Let's bring home the rings to help out with that resume.
  20. He can always hide in the Green Monster to drown it out. That is, if he's not blaring MP3s loud enough as it is behind those shades. It's been confirmed by the Red Sox that Ramirez wanted to a trade for four years now, so it's not anything new. Even Larry Lucchino commented on this - doesn't seem like any team will take him, not by the trade deadline, anyways.
  21. Yankees went after JOSE LIMA? And got shot down by the Royals? That hurts. Bringing up Kevin Thompson to see if he will be the answer in CF. Small looks ok for now - still doesn't know who's going after Mussina on Saturday, though. Fortunately Bartolo Colon is not any of the match-ups, but the game is won early because the Angels have a rock-solid bullpen. Even without that, the Yankees have two wins after trailling by the 8th. Two.
  22. No, I think there's a policy that MLB has the final say - of course, with the majority of players, MLB is going to choose the team that the player is most often associated with - so then it coincides, but if there ever was a disagreement, MLB gets to decide. But correct me if I'm wrong, please.
  23. Maybe no trade will be made at all... Prospect is on deck for center And some more tidbits as to Winn not being the answer: http://www.nypost.com/sports/50947.htm
  24. My boy? Hmm, I'll take that. Well, they were facing Santana, so even though at times he's worked himself into jams, but he's a proven big game pitcher. IN FACT, Cashman was quoted as saying that if it was Game 7 and he could pick anyone to start, he'd go with Santana - nothing wrong with that, but... Yo Cash, why did we get RJ, then? HUH? Anyone but KB stinking up the joint? You guys complain about your thirdbase coach Dale Sveum; we gripe about Mel StottleFIRED. Potato, pitato, tomato, tomahto.
  25. Good. Another little guy to show us how stupid we were to throw all that cash to guys that were just going to end up on the DL. Rock on, Small, rock on...!! Edit: Maybe I'll like the Al Leiter story, too...after sixteen years, guy ends up back where he started. AWW! Now, win! This season is shaping up into "E! True Hollywood Story"...
