  1. Baseball has another Lowe-down cheater To comment seriously, what a creep. :thumbdown If you're going to play the field, if you're single, do so on your own accord, but to be married, to cheat on your wife AND to leave the kids, that's disgusting. Not to mention for the "reporter", it's extremely unprofessional and unethical. If women are to make strides in the field of sports journalism, this crap only enforces stereotypes. To break up with your wife on the phone, ugh.
  2. Theoretically it would be sweet because a) the hitter doesn't know which arm he's going to use (), and the pitch count would be split into two. Switch-pitching vs. switch-hitting, would be cool to see? And who knows, maybe each arm is better at throwing different pitches?
  3. He takes blood tests after the tumor and parasite scare last year. MLB has access to those tests. Correct me if I'm wrong, but they also detect human growth hormone. The consequences are real. Sounding like a broken record, but I doubt, I HIGHLY doubt, that Giambi would jeopardize his life, AGAIN.
  4. Kinda wondered why this hasn't been given a fair shake at the major league level? Could it ever work? If so, or if not, why or why not? Did some light Googling: A lesson in switch-pitching Kennedy's mailbag: Midseason Q & A (second question down)
  5. Actually no, Palmeiro getting caught doesn't necessarily vindicate Canseco, in fact, Canseco ain't helping his cause by saying he thinks Palmeiro is now clean, and his failing the drug test was rigged by MLB. What Canseco claimed was Palmeiro was doing steroids when they were teammates; Canseco, for the most part, doesn't claim to know about the time, or people, when he didn't play/whom he didn't play with. Therefore, theoretically, Palmeiro could've been clean through his testimony on da hill, never touched the stuff prior to that, and then started using the period afterward, the period to which Canseco doesn't think Palmeiro did anything...all in the past or something like that - but of course, he doesn't know. Take what what you will, but I'm guessing in a court of law, they would have to dissect every piece of the claims. Basically chronologically, as it is, it's at different times. Ha, the title's fixed!
  6. You have measurements? How about some potpourri? Well, Schilling's been effective in the closer role. But between the time he's there, and Foulke gets back, if there's any closer instability, it's gonna take awhile for your team to reach the buffet table. Now, on the other hand, the Yankees might as while stuff their faces watching Al Leiter pitch. Anything to ease the pain. Btw, we do get the food checked and stuff, so yeah, Giambi and Sheffield ain't geting anything different than the rest of the players. Pssh, problem is there is no starting pitcher to get to Mo who would then make a brief bridge over to the food line... Do the Yankees need any more motivation? Edit: I guess some teams can afford to be "fat, drunk, and stupid", and still win? And other teams follow the Alex Rodriguez regimen of waking up at the crack of dawn and still struggle. The Red Sox have made this into a craft or what? I'm sure scouting reports aren't full of this.
  7. Certain someone that's a Yankee fan, no less. Hmm, how well can Canseco spell with that juiced head of his? If SF Chronicle dug up the grand jury testimony, maybe they can get a hold of the original "Juiced" manuscipts? How much would that fetch on eBay? A bag of chips and a grape soda?
  8. So like how does the Red Sox buffet compare to the Yankees? I guess that's the only thing I want to know. I think he's the only guy who can say that Mel Stottlemyre is the best pitching coach he's ever had. Didn't he put that in his book? Now, I would then be inclined to think that he just chucks the ball, throws it whatever, because from what I've seen, StottleFIRED is not helping the pitching situation much. Sorry 26 to 6, I know you're a Stottlemyre sympathist. But the majority of Yankee whiner-fans are not. That would include me! Anyways, 26 to 6, as Yankee fans, isn't the question we should be pondering, "Yankee Nation's thoughts of Big Unit so far"? This is Red Sox board of course. So fortunately I shall not elaborate. Because it would not be pretty... Edit: Or maybe we should go to every team's board and ask how they like the prospects we sold, the FAs that flourished away from NY.
  9. And that would leave A-Rod, Pujols, somewhere in the uhh... analysis? Ok, I'll stop, but this is fun!
  10. Wow, I can just see this trilogy rivaling Lord of the Rings. And would MLB be even stupider as to rig a drug-test? The fall-out would be catastrophic for the game. The ten-game suspension is even more of a joke to pitchers; that's what, two starts? Pssh. DJ has secrets? Naw. He's squeaky-clean. I think? Cresp, I just don't think you're cut out to be a fact-checker, copy editor. Revealing. Forgot the "e". ...Unless you met "unraveling", to which you're still off. Heh. We're still pals, right?
  11. Raffygate continues - HE TALKS! Palmeiro to provide information to Congress
  12. Crespo, because I'm the grammar/spelling/capitalization cop, you're supposed to capitalize the second "i". It's hardly noticable among the three exclamation points though...someone's excited? Didn't Canseco say he didn't think Palmeiro is using now, in the past yes, but not now - and that it's a set-up by MLB? See, if Raffy didn't test positive, this guy's fifteen minutes of fame would've been up, and now gah, there'll be another two volumes in the annals of sports literature, wonderful, quite wonderful. Any guesses on the title of the third?
  13. Tell me about it. A-HA! Here's a stat for you: the Yankees currently allow the most SB in the majors, with 94 (second is the Dodgers with 85). So, let's look at the common thread. Flaherty is worse, but he only catches RJ. And yes, I did admit that most of the Yanks pitchers are horrible at holding runners...but that aside there's a common denominator: JORGE POSADA'S CATCHING! Speaking of SB, are A-Rod and Jeter not attempting as much anymore? Womack had like four in one game, but now's benched, not to mention that was when, MAY?
  14. Embree vs. Ortiz. Ouch. Just go ahead and throw him to the wolves, Cashman, you do that. As for Rocker in da clubhouse, maybe he can give A-Rod some tips? Should be ever be in another altercation with another player on another team...? Sheff supposedly has his back, but how many "pristine" Yankees does it take to rough 'em up? The trail of blood continues...
  15. I think half of them hate us for getting rid of them. Bitter, much, Wedsell "Buddy" Groom? *flicks the wrist* YOU'RE FIRED, IF YOU HAVE A 54.00 ERA, Mr. Redding. Quantrill, at least we amputated you from the cancer that is Kevin Brown. Wow, if only we'd known about Cano, IF ONLY... Womack he seems pretty resigned to his role as bench warmer. Because his stats just about indicate him as the worst player in the league. Naturally, he would be on the Tankees?
  16. Nono, I'll add to that that at least when Steinbrenner signs his du jours, they've had spectacular season(s) BEFORE arrival - Burnett's been ok recently since FLA decided not to trade him, but in his career, he hasn't been what he "should be". Has there ever been a player that sucked before arrival, and suddenly flourished upon? In recent years? Err...no. Nope. Can't think of one. Well first of all Steinbrenner wouldn't sign a dud in hopes that it blooms into a flower... The reverse however, might be true. Just check out all those ppl who have left the Yankees, either as FAs or got swapped in some deal for ol' players. Willy Mo Pena sounds good to me right now. No. No. No. Don't want Burnett. You can have him, but you don't want him, but gah, I don't want the offseason to be a bidding war between the Sox. Or the Mets. Or whatever. The FO is confusing enough internally, why worry about other things you can't control?
  17. Well if you don't have anything else to do, humor me. Leave out Rivera though, he's my fav (as far as the current roster goes).
  18. I'm assuming that's a good thing? Ramirez still drove home the runs. Don't think Burnett's coming; yeah I've heard the friends thing, but for what, to come here, buddy up and use the phones to gripe about which other team they could've gone too? Not to mention Burnett's has been disappointing in underachieving expectations; it's just about a sure thing that players are going to underachieve in NY. Anyways, next year is next year, Yankees motto is still to win now. Except that the FO is determined to keep its core prospects together, but 2005 payroll was built to bring back that elusive number 27 this year.
  19. http://www.talksox.com/forum/showthread.php?p=59730&highlight=cereal#post59730
  20. Ok, I'm putting that down along with Manny crapping in your cereal.
  21. What, didn't we sign him for four years, forty mil? And so far year one has been a bust. Why is he complaining while he's rocking his arse on the DL about his current situation? You're still getting paid. Now stop yapping with your buddies in Detroit and focus on what you're going to contribute once you get back, note to Pavlov. Grass is not greener in Comerica. Just can't win here...some guys want to get out, some guys we can't get out. Well technically the staff should be in tact next season: RJ, Moose, Pavano, Wright, Wang. Injuries and pitching coach, no guarantees there.
  22. Back to Giambi for a moment, if I can pinpoint the exact article(s), I'll post 'em, but I hear that since since last year when he had an intenstinal parasite and a benign pituitary tumor, constant blood tests are being ran by doctors and MLB has access to those tests. So even though steroid testing in MLB today does not include blood work, Giambi is having his monitored - wouldn't that mean he couldn't dope?? Edit: Scroll down to sarasoxfan's article.
  23. Barry being Barry. Sucks to be Pedro Gomez. I saw an AP story on how his teammates are "shocked". Would not count on Bonds here. Maybe if the Giants were close, close to making the postseason, even in that stinking division. See here, Padres, this is the NL West. It is yours to grab. NOW GRAB IT! Isn't Chan Ho Park starting tonight? Ouch. Peavy was awesome! Btw, the thing that Raffy tested positive for, umm, that stanozol thing that I can't spell, it's not found in dietary supplements AND it stays in the body for about a month - so I can't see Giambi being that stupid and doping and risk the risk of getting caught. But no, it will not stop you the haters from hating on Giambi, so go ahead. Keep churning those HRs and RBIs, Giambino (well I'm putting myself in the camp that he's learned from the past).
  24. Oh. Ok. Well. Umm he did say that he was sympathetic toward Palmeiro and his family? So far Barry "Rehabbing-Da-Knee" Bonds hasn't muttered a word. Well athletes' "statements" comes from PR peeps/agents trying to use colossal words and full of jargon that I'm not sure they jocks they represent can make out. A simple, "I'm sorry" would suffice. Well, if only we knew exactly what you're sorry for?
  25. AND KEVIN BROWN WILL BE GONE! I'm excited, can't you tell? YUSSSSSSS! FREEDOM! Ahh, just the fact that this torture isn't forever, that's enough. *ahem* They'll prolly extend Matsui's contract, almost sure of that. Who else is left in that OF? I'm going to have to go with Rivera. For the blown 2001 WS save, for last year's collapse (overused BP, that's what you get), he also got the Yankees four WS rings, so before any fan decides to boo him, stop, pause, and count to the four rings. And ppl find excuses to dismiss Jeter's accomplishments, not even the best SS on his own team or whatever, but Mo just might be the best closer there ever was, and he did it in a pressure cooker. Edit: Kevin Brown Contract Countdown: 61 days
