  1. Because he wasn't familiar with the AL East, once pitchers and batters have seen each other a couple times, allowing adjustments to be made, so otherwise I'd say it was beginner's luck or "lightening in a bottle" or whatever. Please Al, I don't want Yankee fans to make another "Price is Right" call. If he can throw a strike, when Pavano comes back he might be able to move to the BP. CUT DOWN ON THOSE WALKS!
  2. I thought Schill looked a little displaced.
  3. Giambi is not allowed to speak about the grand jury testimony. I think that's a legally binding. However, whatever Palmeiro says that he can't talk, that's crap. He can. MLB can't, because it protects the players, but if he wanted to...he could.
  4. Matsucki? Mind sharing some of the other nicknames you've concocted for this team? First I'm told that Posada ain't all that bad, now this. This. Whatever. JUST GET ME THE WINS! I'm taking Womack in the clutch. I mean, there has to be SOME reason for his signing...still trying to figure it out. But Torre insists on playing him, IN CENTER, still. Yes, Cano earned his gig. But why [play Womack]? To get a SB? A walk? A clutch single? WHY? FREE THOMPSON!
  5. Perhaps you missed the SECOND part of my statement: I'm aware to for reasons unknown, that the D-Rays have been extremely pesky for the Yankees. And that the Royals swept the Yanks earlier in the season, first time in more than a decade. So yes, it's not a sure thing. There might've been a time when a $200 million payroll was a sure thing to get a team into the postseason, but as it is, no. No it is not. Toronto, I think NY should send you a fruit basket!
  6. Hammer: So who's the first? Yeah, I think Bernie knows it, he knew it when his contract was too much, but Boras being his agent and his "negotiating" skills, well, you know how that goes. Yup, can't picture him in another uni. But it's his decision, and if he wants to go somewhere else, then all the best for him. However, he's also pretty realistic about what he can, and at this point, cannot do.
  7. I think the advantage in scheduling is with the Red Sox; don't you guys also have the most home games in the second-half of all the teams in MLB? I'm going to call a sweep of KC and TB (for the Yankees), but at times that has been questionable. 95 wins...c'mon, fairly reasonable?
  8. Thanks, thanks for always digging up the actual stat on me. I think Sheffield's has the highest BA with RISP. So yeah, I would have him hitting bottom of the ninth, two outs, first, then Matsui, and I guess Jeter and A-Rod at a somewhat distant third (right now) and fourth (Rodriguez might be one of the top five hitters in the league, but this IS with the game on the line, and he's not quite there yet).
  9. Hey, welcome to Talksox. I think you'll be fine.
  10. Oh Crap. Edit: Jeter hasn't been clutch this year with RISP. Actually that was a redundant statement. Argh.
  11. Yankees decline 2006 option on Bernie Williams Not surprising, but Bernie seems to be ok with it, and the timing is a bit odd, but he doesn't seem to be deterred at the task at hand - helping the Yanks get #27. Abilities may be diminished, but people will remember him as a one of the quintessential pinstripers of the 90s during that championship run. He can probably serve the organization in another capacity. Thanks for everything Bernie. Hope you can go out with a bang.
  12. Posada's CS is middle of the pack; defense was never all that great, but it was his offense that made it tolerable. But now players are swiping off him all the time, and in part it has to do with pitchers being terrible at keeping runners on (exception being Mussina), however it's just unbearable to watch with not even an attempt at a pick-off. Yes SB happen more than CS, maybe the throw wouldn't have been in time, yet it's still ugly to watch. Seems like it's 2.9%. I don't observe Oakland that much, but well, at least there was one memorable play to that.
  13. Oh by the way, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that FANTASTIC tag by Jason Kendall. You know, "THE Tag". Hey Posada, how about one of those once in awhile. Throwing out a runner? Something to jog my memory, since I just can't fathom how you have a 29% CS.
  14. Ok, I kept my lips zipped since I wasn't sure if bringing up the Yankees in a Sox game thread was allowed, but ahh well, it's fair game now? I'm just going to think of it as another chance for the Yankees to rally. DYK that those two come-from behind wins against LAA marked the first time a team won consecutive games when trailing by at least four runs in the eighth inning or later, in 30 years? And what's more special was that Womack played a key part in both... As for Leiter, maybe when Pavano gets back he can get moved to the BP. But he cannot, CANNOT walk as many batters as he does. ANd how about throwing a stike once in awhile?
  15. Is the new "trend" hiring Ivy League-educated GMs?
  16. Hello? Anyone here? Is this because the opposition is KC? Well, they DID win that "thriller" against the White Sox recently.
  17. I want that "heart" back.
  18. Hey, let's not forget Huston Street here! Kid has some serious stuff as the closer, and making a Rookie of the Year run, too. Hmm, if he won it this year, and Bobby Crosby won it in 2004...nice what Oakland has going on there. YOUTH!
  19. Oakland didn't do too terrible in their postseason runs, but some things can't be blamed on the front office - errors in baserunning - Byrnes neglecting to touch homeplate or Giambi (Jeremy) failing to slide. I should be expecting a shot at the Yankees in every thread now.
  20. Well, according to skipper Torre, the Yanks have no weird-loooking stuff in the clubhouse From Giambi sorry for Palmeiro's plight bobby jr, would you like to do a sweep of the clubhouse?
  21. Haha, ok sorry, I mistook you for an A's fan. *blushes* Hey Billy Beane, I'm still waiting for your sequel Moneyball 2: How to Win a Postseason Series, here! Well? According to Joe Morgan he wrote it!
  22. At the expense of more Yankee-jabbing, everyone interviews the Yankees after some huge baseball news story. Well NATURALLY they would want Giambi's opinion, eh? Giambi sorry for Palmeiro's plight Ok, stop hating on Giambi, it must be some super-gum or whatever that he's chewing. There. Despite questionable FO moves in the past, the Yankees do not drink unknown substances. That's more than I can say for some players. Don't worry Sheff, in this clubhouse, the other players will be on the look-out for any strange-marked beverage or cream.
  23. Athletics Nation
  24. That's another way of putting it. Against the A's pitching staff, not a time when the Twinkies should find their offensive stride. HE, do you go to AN by any chance?
