  1. Haha, yeah, I saw that. He and Jim Edmonds make those awesome HR-robbing plays. Crespo, I guess you're going to use that asterisk after Bonds* every time his name comes up? In a way I think a star is a touch too nice for those guys. Maybe an asterisk by Maris and Aaron indicating that they're the true holders of the records, "true stars of the game" if you will, and a strikethrough whenever Bonds or Palmeiro comes up. I'm being cheesy, but oh well.
  2. MGB: Ok fine, I thought I saw double fours, but I took a break and now I see clearly, but THANKS! It's not a matter of somebody stopping him, but there's the physical limitation called AGING? Even MJ experienced that? So in all likelihood, with all the banging around that happens in basketball, especially given his position, most big contracts don't pan out, at least not in its entirety. Really? I thought there was this big conspiracy to get LeBron to a huge media market? I kid. Whatever money he doesn't get, he can make up in those gigantic shoe contracts. Isn't Wade's one weakness the three-pointer? riverside sluggers: Not only did you get the wrong team in the title, you also spelled "asinine" wrong. There's no "ass" in it, my dear.
  3. Oh you're kidding me...athletes trying to act, I can't decide if that's worse than them trying to sing! Maybe I was the only one, but I didn't think "Space Jam" was too bad. Doesn't matter if MJ was the most contrived thing in cinema that year, when you have Bugs Bunny, it just CAN'T be a bad movie. Nah, that's Hammer's line! Is anyone clearing cap room for LeBron? Well, I don't know that the Heat would need him since they have a stud in D-Wade.
  4. But long-term, health is a concern for FIVE years - can he be running up-and-down the court at what's that, 38 years...young?! He'll have the MBA to fall back on...whatever is he going to do with that. Edit: Still a strain...
  5. That's all you need to be one of Steinbrenner's du jours. The guy once landed Alyssa Milano [Pavano - what a tongue-twister that would've been ], not the first time he's gotten lucky, so to speak.
  6. Suns? When I first read it, I was thinking Phoenix...maybe it's a play-on-words that I don't get? Anyways, O'Neal may be one of the most dominant centers in the NBA today, perhaps ever, but he probably cannot keep up the production that warrants this kind of big contract. And from a team's perspective, I wouldn't think that it's their responsibility to make sure that the player is well compensated - though that's nice, they have to look at the bigger picture, of managing the cap for example - how will O'Neal's $100 mil deal impact their chances of signing other players? The Heat were probably a bruised thigh and an injured rib away from the Finals...so perhaps they want to tell their franchise that they want to keep competing? Not sure how long the East will continue to be watery. Yeesh, will the Shaq deal ever work out for LA? Doesn't look like it. What's even more baffling is why they wanted to swap for Kwame Brown - the guy who quit on his team in the PLAYOFFS!
  7. Hee, you need not worry, we don't bite. Some pack a big bark, but you're free to express your opinions and have fun posting!
  8. HIYA! Welcome to Talksox. Hope you enjoy your stay. Swiss chocolate = YUM!
  9. SBC's attendance is way down. And there's not many people in their boats waiting to reel in a HR. Bonds announcements aren't surpirsing since he practically expects the media to cater to his every whim, then throws these hissy fits. He practically used his son as a shield to deflect any "controversy". MLB should look at someone else to represent the league. Bonds just comes across as a big jerk, and that's putting it politely. I'd rather see a guy like Pujols for example; he's put up massive offensive numbers, has a lot of potential, plays in one of the best baseball markets, not mention has a big heart. Or Vlad. Or A-Rod. Oops, there I said it.
  10. Or so he tells MLB.com. Haven't read his blog, but supposedly he posted awhile back that he was working on his paintings or whatever. Recent MRI showed more swelling in right knee Bonds unlikely to play this season Hey, if y'all are gonna rant about Palmeiro and Giambi, why not throw Bonds into the mix. Moose, I'm expecting a comment out of you, and maybe a Photoshop-ed pic? Some people may be eating when they browse this site, let's keep that in mind, ok?
  11. AHAHA, oh you. Ouch, just looking at a syringe makes me cringe. *cringe* It's purple? Eww. What is that, grape juice? It's not even an athlete thing, doesn't the "Don't take candy from strangers rule" apply to everything, food, beverage, topical applicators?! Speaking of which, the prosecutors are apparently more interested in going after the distributors of steroids, not the users. Go figure.
  12. And you would know? Scouting D-Lowe's girls? You're not getting any? I'm only joking with you dear...well, there's other things I could say about "LA", but I'm not going to, not at this point, anyways.
  13. Let's see if he qualifies: Mediocre NL pitcher - check Scruffy (gotta change that) - check Coming from semi-competitive team - check Will his team eat his ridiculous contract - half-check HEY, WE GOT THE MOST GORGEOUS CHICKS HERE! But on this team there's already quite a few skirt-chasers, so there's gonna be some competition. Unfortunately why dosen't any of this translates to the field? (the competitiveness, mind you) :dunno: Nah, we don't want him here...
  14. HAHA, well, I think that's why the Mets were talking about Manny, because on the day they signed Beltran, RJ totally blew up in front of cameraman. Yankees always take the front-page. Welcome to NY, dude, welcome. And yeah, if D-Lowe was in NY, I guess not even LA scoop compares to how much scrutiny he'd get in New Yawk. Edit: Last I checked, DJ's still going out with VM (that VJ on TRL), but maybe the Yankee fangals here can confirm?
  15. Oh why do you guys care?? Hmm, I think DJ's been rather quiet on the Page 6 front this year...
  16. Well come to think of it don't they have a "MLB All-Star team" against "Japanese All-Star team", that happens after the season is over. I think because that's when and where Roger Clemens learned that he got this seventh Cy Young. I think the Japanese team took a game? It's still good publicity? LOL, got a kick out of Edgerrin James complaining about traveling to Japan for preseason Colts-Falcons game. It's a long plane ride, and maybe he gets a total of five carries. But I mean, sure it would mess up your Circadian rhythm, but a free trip to Japan? There are so many things to do there, all the sashimi you can eat...
  17. Ho ho ho, Canseco with some credibility, well I guess you were onto something there. Now his story is he "didn't KNOWINGLY take steroids". Hmm. Sounds like Sheff's story. Do they take us for dopes, pardon the pun, that they just pick up a mystery bottle and dump it into their system...and are completely clueless about what it is and what it does. I heard a story today about how on the day Ripken Jr. broke Gehrig's record, Palmeiro wrote to Clinton asking for him to release his family in Cuba. It took two years, but eventually the government got his family out and brought them to the U.S. So, as the sportswriter who was telling the story says (I think it was Ken Rosenthal), it's disturbing that he could've in a sense, betrayed Congress after what they did for him. The test he took, Palmerio did, the drug one, took place after his testimony. So if they wanted to pin perjury on him, they'd have to go back before that date. But I guess prosecutors have more important people and things to go after than this? Canseco also said something that he didn't think Palmeiro was doing it now...so for Raffy to get caught, hmm, even when brick head isn't that stupid, it says something.
  18. The Yankees plan on using Wright in the bullpen, sometime in late-to-mid- August. He was good for an inning or two, but...well the plan is still to get him the starting rotation, according to Torre. Don't plan on Brown coming back anytime this year. And if it's next year, he'll not be with the Yankees! I've heard reports that Wang feels good, and he's probably looking to resume throwing sometime. I hope the kid feels well, not even soon, but well, period. He's been huge for the Yankees, and maybe part of that has to do with him not understanding Stottlemyre's "pitching advice"? That report Pavano had regrets or whatever, frankly it was vague and what business does he have parking his pretty ass on the DL, calling up a buddy in Detroit and griping about his situation with his team. Sounds unprofessional, if it's even true. If you're unhappy, get healthy, start pitching get us some wins. Besides RJ (still shows inconsistency) and Moose, the rest of the staff needs only to "keep us in games". Because the Yankees, on paper, have a potent offense, and can give some run support. They're not expecting aces here, although a nice perforance even once in awhile boosts the team.
  19. The little loophole is that he could've been clean when he testified on the hill, and then juiced afterward.
  20. You're serious about that part? I'll take you up on that.
  21. I don't see why Torre wouldn't mix up the BP, TanGorMo is going to get exhausted; actually, make that Flash's arm is teetering on falling off, and Mo when he give up that single - BP is going to run out of gas. I've heard complaints about how Torre uses the BP, in situations that aren't "necessary", and this stems from previous years too. I remember Tim Redding's comments when he said he could die happy because he put on a Yankee uniform. Sorry, but if you can't deliver the goods, you're outta here.
  22. When was the internet invented? *looks up Al Gore's bio* Or maybe you did? I don't know what's it like in the life of a baseball player...well, the ones we're talking about here are in an another category. Carlos Zambrano spends a lot of time on it, but other than that, I happen to think many players shun technology for some reason? I recall something about David Ortiz advocating for MLB to educate youngsters in the D.R. about the hazards of steroids. Good cause. So what about Barry "Rehabbing-my-knee" Bonds? Is he also convincted in the court of public opinion. And he's probably the bigger jerk of all.
  23. Eh well...I guess I meant that if he didn't know it then, he should know it now.
  24. I think you're the second Rhode-Island-er here, that I've met anyways. WELCOME!
