Pavano Regrets Signing With Yankees
YankeeDoodle replied to yankeessuck013's topic in Other Baseball
Pavano and Wright are being pushed back. Again. WHY DO THEY GET OUR HOPES UP?!?! Grr. Aaron Small, team hero you are. 3-0, we love ya, we love ya, we love ya! Shawn Chacon is doing ok, too. Now, if Al "Red Sox Killer" Leiter could only, only find the strikezone... Pavano should be ready for the White Sox, Monday or Tuesday. -
Yeah, in case you haven't noticed. Yankee fans are pretty fickle. People always talk about the moves the Yankee FO make that don't pan out, well here, this is a move that they DIDN'T make, that now, years later, they should've. Jumped. Well I can't lay this one on Cashman. THIS one goes to the top. So shut up, Sheffield. We had a shot at Vlad, and it would've been so cool to see TWO Yankee players pitching Pepsi - I'd drink to that. Plus, he has a CANNON of an arm, which would be good because Posada needs all the time he can get in case, *ahem* the ball takes a "nasty hop". But if playing on a chip on his shoulder, so perceived by Sheffield, and he continues to whack the ball, then so be it.

Joe Johnson doesn't want to play in Phoenix
YankeeDoodle replied to Manny Goes Boom's topic in Other Sports
Well I think Joe Johnson's alright, but I'm not sure if he's a "franchise player" - which isn't really a knock on him, but that it's rare when you do find a player who's so special to build an entire organization around. Hehe, the mask was neat. And he's viewed as a valuable asset to the Suns because he was the only one who could play any sort of defense against the Spurs in the play-offs. Which I'll just say, without D, there's no way any team can make it out of the West, with the Spurs, and even the Mavs trying to play some defense. If Mark Cuban doesn't mind, I guess you guys can have Finley. -
AHHH! The player that Cashman was negotiating a contract with... Vladimir Guerrero. 'Nuff said. Hammer: It's called metrosexual.
-
Nah, Cashman tried dangling him out for trade. And then Sheff got all "angry" and put up those monster numbers. So if he's "angry" right now, as a Yankee fan I'm going to take his production. With that mouth, and that glove, he better be an RBI machine (sorry if I took that from you guys about Manny). He's hitting .400 with RISP. There were a lot of other things that Sheffield said that were well...strange, but that's not even the word for it. He accused the media for turning "this" into a race issue, and I'm not even going there, but I'll just say that he's off on that comment. This crap does show up when the Yankees are beginning to win. The other things is, from what I heard Buster Olney say on ESPN, Sheffield might be Jeter's best friend on the team, aside from Posada. And I distinctly rememeber earlier in the season when Sheffield defended A-Rod, saying that he and the rest of the Yankees have Rodriguez's back in case there's any scuffle. So ehh, why oh why would he say this, don't know, frankly don't care that much. The team's more concerned with pitching, defensive woes, soothing Sheffield's bruised ego doesn't register. A captain leads by example, Sheff, now if you're referring to yourself in this pompous article, which I can only assume you are, go out there and just play. OR we could also attach a big "C" on DJ's uni, so you can tell for sure who's the captain of the team.

I was just saying that if Giambi's test results were leaked, that if they ever found reason to test him for steroids/HGH (such as personal health concerns), then even if MLB couldn't punish him, the public outcry might just do him in by itself. Giambi is not Bonds. He cares about what the fans think about him. And that's a "chink" in that armor, if you will. Why, Bud Selig has been laying low on the steroids front...has he even commented on the Palmeiro story yet? Pssh.

MGB, I've not seen you this riled up. Anyways, there's some turmoil within the ATL ownership, so the trade is definitely not a done-deal. Belkin tight-lipped on stalled Suns deal Btw, I'm a big fan of Timmy, so yeah, don't diss him, which you weren't completely. Duncan's too fundamentally sound to be written off. And Ginobili's one of the most exciting players on the court. The Spurscould upgrade at PG though; Tony Park at times has been, well, let's just say he must be seeing Eva Longoria in his eyes because the way he just loses the ball... -
Heh, I'm kinda late to this, but I've heard that this isn't the first time the Red Sox have done this, as in backing out of a deal, last-minute to really tick off a team. It's the Rockies, but nonetheless, in the future lack of trade etiquette could come back and bite.

Say about what? You're going to tell me that MLBPA is going to prevent the doctors for screening for something that is damaging and deterioating Giambi's health? What I was trying to say, was that first off, doctors would only know that something is wrong, but not the exact cause. In such hypothetical situation, it's better to be safe than sorry, so they'd run a bunch of tests. It could be anything. And if it turned up positive for steroids - there you go. Edit: Well maybe the SF Chronicle would leak some the results or something - in fact, didn't someone inside the MLB testing labs comment on Palmeiro's results? So perhaps someone who has access to Giambi's results (again, this is hypothetical), leak his results. And if that happened, he would be convicted (again) in the court of public opinion. That may be worse than any type of suspension, especially if Giambi's the type of players who cares about public perception

What we need is a pitching coach...*whistles* Ok, so if we don't "fire" StottleFIRED (sorry, couldn't resist), eventually he's going to retire. McCarthy-Torre-Girardi, has a certain ring to it. Anyways, that's a discussion for another time. I read that no Orioles manager has lasted more than four years since Earl Weaver ended his 14-year tenure in '82. NY Times article on Torre extending his support to Mazzilli: Torre Offers Mazzilli Support and a Shoulder

Except it's a deal in which the player hardly pays up... I've heard stuff that Flaherty might catch more than just RJ, to rest Posada, whose BA lately has been just as horrendous. Actually, it's more like some Yankee fan cries to bench Posada. Not sure if Flaherty calls a better game than Posada; defense is shakier (?? considering Posada's...), but it seems like the Yankees score more when he plays, and if they do that, taking out Posada's "bat" (harhar) might not be that big of a loss. He's pretty much an automatic out at this point. Anyways, back to Giambi. He takes blood tests to monitor his overall health. Taking any sort of steroids, HGH, something that would be potent enough to affect his performance, would almost certainly affect his body, and it would in all likelihood trigger some alarm on his tests, which MLB has access to, and the doctors would probably run additional tests to get to the bottom of it, and so it's hard to fathom that Giambi would not be caught if went down that road again.

sarasoxfan, I think adding Sheffield into a thread specifically about the Reds consoling the poor kid is inappropriate. Sad story, but it was a great effort by the Reds to comfort the boy.

Everybody loves MO! And I remember DJ was saddened that Tino was let go, but he's back and I read an "SI" article where Tino was coaching A-Rod on how to handle the NY media. Of course the core Yankees are going to be closer than the FAs who were brought in. Not everyone's going to be best friends, but it doesn't explain why Sheffield's hot and cold toward his teammates. Didn't he once say that he, and the rest of the team, has A-Rod's back in case...something happens? If A-Rod invited Sheffield to shoot his next deoderant commercial, maybe that'll smooth things over. I guess I would take a bunch of yakkers who produce over a bunch of pacificts who don't. But they haven't produced on a consistent basis. But thus far they haven't "earned" the "right" to throw a tantrum and demand having their wives flown everywhere they go. Got to conserve costs on some level. People make Sheffield (and supposedly Pavano) make it sound like wearing the pinstripes suck, and there was a time when Joe DiMaggio was so thankful that he spent his entire career in a Yankee uniform. Times have changed.
-
Somebody tell Sheff that A-Rod/Jeter rivalry was soooooooo like, Spring Training 2004. Maybe Sheffield feeds off anger - as a Yankee fan, I have to make whatever "good" there is to come out of this thing. When he was almost swapped to the Mets, he had the monster stretch. So if he uses the NY media to help him up his performance, then by all means Btw, I should say that today marks 26 years, three days anniversary of Thurman Munson's death. True Yankee captain.
-
Yeah, that's what "surprises" me about these "outbursts" - they come at a time when the team is winning, or beginning to win. There are so many other issues that needs to be addressed on the team, it just didn't seem like an appropriate time for him to comment; actually, there isn't EVER an appropriate time for Sheffield to make the comments he made. They weren't constructive, asking the team to step it up - sounded like he wanted an endorsement, or some honorary medal for being a Yankee. Whatever. Had the Guardians swept, I don't think it's out of the question that Steinbrenner would've issued another "statement". He seemed pretty concerned about the bats or something, or so he was quoted as saying when he was watching Wright' rehab start. Hmm, I'd probably take his statement over Sheff's outburst. In that article, there was a little piece about he blames the media for turning it into a race issue? Not going there. I thought chemistry, at least pertaining to the Yankees clubhouse, is a by-product of winning. Hmm. Might have to refine that theory.
-
Oh yeah, saw that article. First I thought he was referring to his man-crush, A-Rod, but then sounds like someone's mad didn't get an invite to the Pepsi batting practice. Said someone also says he doesn't think the Yankees are a "family organization" (mmmhmm...guess Steinbrenner doesn't fly wives all over the place) and he felt insulted by a contract Cashman brought to the table, and refuses to answer to anyone but Steinbrenner. Aww. Boss has to calm another baby? Hmm...says here that Giambino now has 21 HRs, TIED with Sheffield now. With that mouth, and that glove, better start SWINGING the bat. Whatever, doesn't really bother me. Just sounds like a prima donna who feels left out since Giambi got hot (kinda shocked he didn't throw him into the fire, either?). ^^ P.S. So who's the leader? One can only imagine...
-
Haha, I once read or saw an article on Vlad, and they were asking him what's the name of the team or something, and he just said, through his translator, "I just play for Anaheim." Feeling's mutual, I guess. If it's ok with you Crespo, I'd like to post a New York Times article. I hear it's a pretty prestigious newspaper. On the Red Sox taking away Yankees attendance number crown. Yankees Are No Longer Best Show on the Road And if it's not, oh well, boo-hoo.
-
Is it that you guys don't read my entire post, or don't get my sarcasm, or something, because y'all get on me for things that's clearly self-explanatory in my original. I did quote-unquote the "another" part, so yeah, I was totally joking there, and I also mentioned his HR total of the season: one, that one, obviously. But well...ok, get it now? I know you guys want to pick on a Yankee fan, but just make sure I didn't already cover it before you do. Nooooooo...*gasp* You don't think Flaherty took some "Giambi pointers"? Yeah, right. If he hit 14 HRs in August, I think I just might see a "Flaherty's Mysterious Power Surge" thread. And I got nothin' on dat. What's the bar set at Womack's HRs? Inside the park...maybe uno. Outside? Nada? :dunno: Edit: riverside sluggers, yeah, just uhh, testing the waters there. It's ok to keep jabbing.
-
Then don't, case in point: Derek Jeter. He's a skirt chaser. But he's not married.
-
You rock, man. While we're at it, let's call up Joe DiMaggio from the minors. How does Yogi Berra feel about catching (his catching skills might be better than Posada's is right now)? Watch out AL East, here we come! Don't you dare wake me from my time-warp dream.
-
Umm, err...it's "Los Angeles-Anaheim" @ #5. Well they also meshed "Baltimore-Washington" together, too.
-
Well I hope you will have more sense if and when you do decide to get married. If you're single, play the field if you want, but call me old-fashioned that I think if someone takes their vows, they should take them seriously, or not take them at all. As a chica, hypothetically I would never, ever get involved with a married man because being a home wrecker is something I want no association with, and if that EVER happened to me, hell hath no fury.
-
Yes, you can't, because someone obviously needs to teach you the difference between "we're" and "were", "their" and "they're". Actually, ha, you'd be mistaken in that assumption because Sarasota comes in at number 277. Haven't scanned and found Azle, but there are a bunch of small towns, just so you know. Oh well, I'm a top-ten-listy-type-of-person. Even if I happen to disagree, rankings intrigue me for whatever reason.
-
Flaherty hit "another" HR today. Well, his first of the year. Don't think there's anything fishy going on there? Why wouldn't it be "tempting" to think that a guy works hard to get where he was in spite of adversity (granted a lot of it he brought upon himself). It takes a lot less than "shadow of a doubt" to get convicted in the court of public opinion? And this thread is going in circles again...
-
Wow, thanks for demonstrating you can spell. I had my doubts there, Crespo. The first part at least. Unfortuantely, if you couldn't read, it was "SN". Before you go patrolling other people's topics, why don't you make sure yours is correct first. *sighs* Don't care is don't care, I guess. :dunno:
