  1. ...Behind that Florida defense, no less. Well he was a hot piece of ass when he was on the mound, but definitely enjoyed it less when he sucked. More bad news (?): Pavano to see specialist What tests haven't they ran? Surgery?! Yikes.
  2. ...and 15 mil is the amount Bad Back Brown's due this year. Hmm. No kidding; will the disappearance of RJ's slider follow the disappearance of KB's sinker? It's like the ball goes into the Bermuda triangle or something. Roger Clemens was mediocre his first year with NYY. Well, he was 41 when left; RJ's going to turn 42 this season. Age ain't nothing but a number? :dunno: NL West can be very, very misleading.
  3. Ahh, no need to apologize. First off, yeah, would love to have Rich Harden signed cheaply for the next couple years, but that's not happening. And when Billy Beane can not regret letting Jeremy Bonderman go, because he has young pitching studs in the wings - the Yankees hardly have that luxury. Second, the "sample-size" of Wright and Pavano wasn't impressive. But Wright might be useful in long relief, and Pavano hasn't earned the right to assess his "situation", because he's hardly pitched. Of course I'm not expecting a Cy Young run by anyone on this team, but each pitcher can play his part, keep the offense in games, then that should suffice. Should. I am realistic about the 2005 Yankees. 95 wins, hopefully they can achieve that mark, but it's still going to be something of a struggle. And while I can be wary of this team, I'm not giving up until we're uhh...hypothetically, "mathematically eliminated". Gone through too much crap to just throw in the towel. Unless it's Kevin Brown, who can retire and give back all the money due so Cashman can find more pitching... Edit: YES, I know it's a lot of "ifs", but we couldn't catch a break ALL YEAR with injuries (or performance). I don't know where Yankee fans would go if we didn't have anything, or at least, hope for anything that can boost this team.
  4. Umm...and that was an intelligent response? Edit: Are you referring to the Johnson remark I mentioned? If so: Randy: I'll pitch, so leave me alone
  5. Interesting stat: To begin the season the following 5 starters: Johnson Mussina Pavano Wright Brown The combined stats of these 5 now are 31-22, for a winning percentage of 58.5%. The combined ERA is 4.85. The next 5 starters in terms of innings pitched are: Wang Small Leiter Chacon Henn The combined stats of these 5 are 11-9, for a winning percentage of 55%. The combined ERA is 4.32. So 2004 offseason didn't pan out. Nice job of plugging in the holes, Cash? :dunno: Cheap is the way to go?
  6. The Yankees have made fugly errors (some that weren't scored as such) throughout the entire year. Physical and mental. Matsui baiting the runner to steal is only funny because it didn't lose us the game. That said, I'd rather be competing in the AL East, because there is no way in the Central or West this team would have a shot. I read an article where RJ sounded pretty ticked about things, and he hasn't been feeling 100% in a long while, but given the situation, the last thing the Yankees could afford is to lose another starter. If Pavano and Wright come back, if Small and Chacon continue to have quality starts, maybe, maybe Johnson can skip a start, but that's not likely.
  7. It's not only the Yankees who say ridiculous things... Millar looking at big picture
  8. Please, RJ, please, let you not be Kevin Brown, part two. I don't know that this organization can handle any more bad pitching aquisitions... Moral of the story, Empire is dealt another blow. Pitching injuries. Backaches. Tell me something new.
  9. Gotcha. I admit he's overhyped, but he's a media darling of New York and Tim McCarver, none of which Jeter orchestrated. I think? He doesn't put up the offense of Tejada (or A-Rod), doesn't have spectacular range at SS, but if there was ever a player who had the best instincts, of just being there at the right moment (and intangibles, I can hear the groans), it'd be Jeter. He gets a free pass at times, but there are times when he doesn't - he got booed at Yankee Stadium during that 0-32 stretch. I can name you some Yankees that do fly under the radar when they underperform (Posada, is that you?)... No kidding; Jeter's been atrocious with RISP. So if you're doing leadership by performance, Sheffield is hitting about .400 with RISP. Take your pick!
  10. BENCHED? Are you KIDDING me?!?! Womack has been pretty cluctch lately, maybe he should have a shot. Second thought, not that there was any first, no. He's a jerk to put it lightly, but he's a jerk that hits. Edit: Actually Sheffield might be benched like it or not because I think he still has to serve his two game suspension...almost forgot about that until someone at a Yankee board brought it up. But he's also trying to appeal the suspension (ONE game??), so yeah, go figure.
  11. Giambi, I hope that you're not reading this thread... And if you are, go work on your fielding skills with Mattingly or Martinez. Oh, but according to some of you, Giambi jumped off the roof the first time, Hammer? AND SURVIVED. Hmm. Very interesting.
  12. Don't you guys call him Chuckie? Not much of a fan, but I wish Barrett Ruud all the best. I know you're probably thinking Nebraska players don't translate to NFL products (exit, stage left, Eric Crouch), but he was the all-time leading tackler, and he had as much heart as I've seen in any player. Speaking of which, Colts fans are getting pretty antsy about Manning, Peyton and Dungy...
  13. Lumber? :dunno: Hacking away at the ball? Unless it's used as a noun, as in "Giambi is a hack", but I don't think it's used like that in this context. CB, must you be so hard on the posters?
  14. Checking to see if F-Rod's been kidnapped... 5.2 IP since coming off the DL, I guess Torre just wants to prove Wedsel's theory. Yes, he's a walk machine, but that's not going to change unless he gets work. Why, EMBREE, is seeing more time than Rodriguez, is there some dark secret Yankee fans are not aware about? Boomer, be grateful you are in Boston, but I'm sure you already are. Lunching with your new pals. Seventh inning stench is so bad here, it makes one quite nauseous. HennGorMay? No thanks. AWW TANYON! http://tinypic.com/a1spbo.png Ouch. Torre's brutal with that bullpen.
  15. Isn't that the second time you've mentioned that? I think Michael Kay coined the expression. TanGorTanGo...lalala. If the Yankees are lucky, we'll see Mo. How to add F-Rod into BP mnemonic strategy? That remains to be seen, hello 5.00 ERA if Torre doesn't get the guy some work. If Quantrill was still here, it'd be QuanTanGorMo? Politics aside.
  16. Republic with a 'k'. If only the Yankee pitchers could find the strikezone...not to name any names, but AL LEITER! Embree should buy Rodriguez and Giambi dinner. Before he gets DFA'd, should he continue to blow it. I only trust him with a five-run lead. But wait, Torre will plug in TanGor regardless of the situation because they belong to the Torre's Crew. Which will render them useless come postseason time (is that too presumptous of me? oh well). Good pitching; bad offense. Good offense; bad pitching. Story of the 2005 New York Yankees. :dunno:
  17. Tex, I was waiting for you and your avatar to show up. But why isn't Jeter a good captain? Explain that part? Of course A-Rod is overrated. Only person who should get $200 million is the one who cures AIDS or solves world hunger. But Scott BORASS negotiating your contract might also do the trick.
  18. Can't be more baffling than the Knicks roster... Didn't Curry have that irregular heartbeat problem? I hope it got checked out, but I'm not sure on his status. I don't think Chicago will let him go if they can resign him; they have an excellent core of players to work with.
  19. LOL, Sheff can have his own reality show if no endorsements comes his way. Sheffield's Lament: Being Me Means Being Misquoted and Misunderstood No love lost: Hello prima donna: About the misquoted part, seems NY Magazine would differ:
  20. Quite a compliment.
  21. It's your fault soxie!
  22. What a keen observation.
  23. I don't think it's completely Cashman's fault. He has the title of GM, but at times he has little say with the Yankees - there's the Tampa faction, and then Steinbrenner. Not to mention there was a lot of risk in signing Wells, even though he wanted come, he's not always in the best of shape. If we didn't even try to sign some younger pitching, the team would've gotten older, which is what everyone taunts the Yankees about. Didn't know at the time how long Wright and Pavano would've been out, or how rough their adjustment to the AL has been. And half of the pitchers now on the roster were acquired after the offseason, since uhh, can't catch a frickin' break here!
  24. The key to Santana is his change-up. Yeah, I guess you all know, it looks just like his fastball. Made the Yanks look atrocious when they couldn't tell the difference. And while Santana seems to be returning to form, at times this year teams can get to him in the early innings - especially the first, so that's when the damage pretty much has to be done.
  25. Considering it's NY media, there might be some truth to that. However I doubt any journalist would mention race unless s/he was sure that the person implicitly implied that. Wasn't he complaining that the reporters were crowding locker room space or something, and ran most of his Yankees out? At least someone's listening, Sheff. Certainly not your teammates, and not the fans.
