  1. Ha, one of the hottest teams in baseball right now, and they're being given a fight by one of the most pathetic. Odd, but that's baseball. It's sad because it's the twentieth anniversary of when the Royals won the WS, against the Cardinals (and the infamous call at 1st). But it seems like nobody's in the mood to reminisce because they're just awful this year.
  2. That kinda streak, while not as hard as winning 18 games in a row (that would be crazy), has luck involved. Of course, ability factors mainly into sucking in general. But to lose that many games, consecutively, it would suggest that a team couldn't catch a break.
  3. ...And once again, Torre is evah-so-creative in the OF.
  4. The all-encompassing explanation as to why players in general want a piece of Rodriguez: Wilbon: What is it specifically about A-Rod that guys like Schill and Trot Nixon just can't stand? Kornheiser: He's better looking, he's cooler, he's got all the money. That's what they can't stand. Expect some of the humor to get lost here, though. I don't just say this because of this quote, but Wilbon and Kornheiser are pretty much the only sportswriters that are tolerable, to me anyways.
  5. No soup for Palmeiro!
  6. It's a good thing that I liked you before this admission. But welcome to board, Jim.
  7. Why soxie? He's a big guy, but Clemens always seemed to me to be a guy with values (just let the Piazza thing go already). It's natural Rocket fuel? As for the steroids and hair relationship, I've associated with steroids stimulating hormones to grow, in general. "Anabolic = growing or building." But most sites I've found, while noting a "masculinizing effect", it applies more to females.
  8. It was on "SC" this morning, so I would think so. And when I checked ESPN.com, it's on the right sidebar on the homepage. Still don't know much, as far as the cause of death yet. Sad, since he and Smith both came out of the state of Utah for college, not to mention he was on the O-line.
  9. Numbers not in the Yankees favor. But I hope RJ can get his act together, on a consistent basis. Been waiting for it the entire season, and just can't lie down now and give up and declare him a bust. I really hope not, anyways.
  10. As heard on "SC", Jose Lima is offering $1000 to the pitcher who can get a win today - get this, TWO consecutive wins. Ice the champaign, baby.
  11. Nah, I think that LL would be more careful second time around. Pretty impressive that this kid (well, I guess they're all supposed to be kids) tied the LL WS record.
  12. You never want to see this happen. 49ers' Herrion collapses, dies after game Niners Lineman Thomas Herrion Dies
  13. Didn't you hear about JJ's pot bust? He was "checking his e-mail". Go figure how that one turned out. They couldn't wait a year or two until they raked in the dough in the pros, should they have the talent to do so, and buy themselves all the computers, entertainment systems they want? What exactly was so urgent? Some schools, I don't even mean UCONN, but you can tell that they don't have "student athletes". It's become almost a myth nowadays. There are some shady dealings, you just don't hear about them every day.
  14. Mwahaha, you wish darling, you wish. It's only a matter of time before the "Free Thompson" campaign comes with its own t-shirt. Given the lack of depth at a lot of positions (well, wonder why Jeter or Rodriguez can't have a day off; they just can't), it's not very surprising.
  15. Vince Young is raw. He's got a lot to prove - he's made out to be the "next Michael Vick", and it's not even close at this point. I don't think Mack Brown has beaten Chokelahoma once in his career. He brings in huge booster money; that's why he's there. If NU were to lose to OU that many times, that coach isn't going to be there for long. As much I don't want the Sooners to win, it's hilarious watching Brown's reaction on the sideline. Non-conference scheduling is so weak nowadays. Nobody wants to risk losing a game.
  16. Didn't Palmeiro get extra time with his appeal, before his name was released? Favortism doesn't fly with me. I can understand if they want to make sure that there's no room for error, because it's very damaging to get your named thrown into the fray. It matters more in MLB, because you see the face, whereas in the NFL, the players wear helmets, and it's not as personal. Just seems like MLB takes the longest to do everything. Indecisive. We love our players, we want to protect 'em, yet they do nothing to make the policies stricter, so CLEAN players don't have their names tarnished.
  17. A-Rod is a stick. I guess some players who got caught don't fit the bulky stereotype, but if Rodriguez used, there'd be a mushroom cloud by now. So umm, yeah, like WHEN exactly, is this supposed list going to be released? Can we get an actual date here?
  18. I'm so glad picking up someone from the NL West turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Care to explain yourself, RJ? The hardest part might actually be getting into the postseason. Because the Yankees have the experience (comes with CHOKING, thank you very much, beat you to the punch), Mr. Intagible, etc. etc. That does no good if well, the Yankees don't make it in...
  19. AP Preseason Poll: 1. USC (60/65) 2. Texas 3. Tennessee 4. Michigan 5. LSU 6. Ohio State 7. Chokelahoma 8. Virginia Tech 9. Miami 10. Florida 11. Iowa 12. Louisville 13. Georgia 14. Florida State 15. Purdue 16. Auburn 17. Texas A&M 18. Boise State 19. California 20. Arizona State 21. Texas Tech 22. Boston College 23. Pittsburgh 24. Fresno State 25. Virginia I personally ranked this, because the article just listed them as they went along; didn't have a real LIST for goodness sake's. So if something messed, correct me please.
  20. Well, why can't we get athletes to answer questions honestly in front of CONGRESS? He could decline to comment; it's not like he was forced to say something or commit perjury. yankthis: Yes, there most likely is some nasty stuff found in dead people's bodies. You can have a high BAC if you, "accidentally swallowed a lot mouthwash". Is it a likely explanation? Probably not, unless you couldn't pay for the real thing, and used that as an alcohol substitute. Simiarly, I don't think most users use marijuana for "medicinal purposes", and THC has effects that isn't found in other substances.
  21. I sat in driver's ed, and there's talk of how they're going to have a cheek swab, like sobriety field testing, for marijuana. Now you can only umm, not that I would KNOW any of this firsthand, but you can guess from a person's tongue. And for frequent smokers, like three times a week...they've actually found CRUST on the outer layer of the brain, autopsies in CA shows. Yuck. Law is law. The statement Moss' agent or PR person released, is such bologna. His client stuck his foot in his mouth, end of story.
  22. You're kidding, right? NFL has a policy against that. Doesn't Ricky Williams have to serve a four game suspension for his violation. Yeah, there's a whole lot of technialities involved, but it is what it is. Athletes think they can skate around the law, be it in sports, or just in general. Where's that duct tape?
  23. Neifi Perez has been more than adequate as his replacement. Pleasant surprise for the Cubs, who at this point at going after the WC. Plus it's not like the Cubs are stuck with Garciaparra for a long time; he's a FA at the end of the season. Poor Mia.
  24. Umm, I think Rivera said "the good Lord must be a Yankee." Heh. Oh yeah, KC has a PERFECT, 3-0 against the Yanks this season. Please, if there's any dignity left, I don't want it to come to this...
  25. I'm still putting it at 95. Disappointing that the 100-win mark is not very likely, but 95 should punch the ticket. I suppose; subject to change.
