  1. So there should be panic in the streets in Boston? Im not counting them out, its just that they shouldnt get too ahead of themselves. Keep in mind their rotation has health concerns with Halladay, Burnett & Lilly. Glaus is also known to be injury-prone very much so, along with being one of the worst defensive 3rd baseman in the league. Hudson to Hill is another big drop in defensive prowress. Im still going with Molina might deliver same type of offense as Zaun did in 05 since his stats at Rogers isnt even close to being mediocre.
  2. Oh please Blue Jays. To hear FO execs talking smack about an opposing team like this 2 months before the season is set. Yeah good luck with your sub .500 pitcher (5 years/$55 million)who is mostly keen on giving up groundballs, weakned defense wont help him any. Or how about biggest contract given to a closer (5 years/$47 million) who just has 42 career saves and moving to more of a hitters park? Bengie might be a good acquisition no doubt, but his stats show he doesnt like hitting at the Rogers Centre (.178 avg in 20 games). At least established AL east FO's like Sox & NY, let their players do the talking on the field
  3. To boot, according to the Boston Globe, Lucchino & Henry are said to be in Houston to meet with Roger. The agent keeps talking about Boston, most sports agents dont talk about a team they dont think have a chance of siging their clients. EDIT: Hendricks had been talking about Boston, but at "schillingisthenatural" has pointed out, he has since been quiet with the "no comment" routine. Like the Crisp trade we're finally seeing the Sox FO actually able to try and stop any leaks.
  4. I havent heard of an official offer as yet. For now that is speculation by sports writers. An incentive laden one-season contract I would be approving of. Somewhere around guaranteed $10-12 million, bonuses can be paid if hes able to pitch a certain ammount of starts & not land on the DL.
  5. Where did you hear that Cano or anyone was offered to Cleveland? If so, this is the first Ive heard about it as well as the fact that Cleveland is quite set at 2b/ss with Peralta & Belliard. Just saying because ive been tracking every rumor and didnt hear of a rumored Crisp to NY deal. Anyways the only thing I can compare him to Damon is that comparing their first 4 seasons in the majors, Crisp stacks up. Damon didnt get his high OBP until more experience in the majors. For pressure situations, Crisp thus far has excelled hitting when it counted this past September playoffs run.
  6. lowell & Loretta are the only ones in this prediction list I just dont agree with. Lowell as a dead pull hitter moving from Dolphins Stadium to Fenway Park will just have a BA of just 9 points greater than 05's? Nothing wrong with us having some optimistic views, as the fact of how big of a change of ballpark he will now have for half of the season. At the least Ive got him pegged .270-.280 avg, 35+ Doubles, 20-25 HRs, 75-85 RBIs (he's hitting in the 6th hole not the 9th, his fair share of men to drive home) Loretta .295 avg, .370 OBP, 30 Doubles, 12-16 HRs, 65-75 RBIs
  7. Or how about the Detroit Tigers game in the 10th inning where we saw the Sox just rip out 7 runs to take the 10-3 lead? Tito think this is perfect time to bring out the bomb in Remlinger. What does he do? He gives up a grand slam with teh final score being closer than it shouldve been, 10-7
  8. I have mentioned this before, but my first game was when I was 3 & my dad had won tickets to game 7 of the 86 playoffs against Anaheim, 8-1 win. I dont remember much of course, but I used to have a tape of the game. Emphasis on used to as I had easily worn the tape out watching it as I was a kid haha. Sidetrack: last game I had been to was the last game of this last season. The game in which the Sox officially gained a ticket to the playoffs. Now most memorbale seeing Bill Mueller & Doug Mirabelli homer. First time I had seen them do so in person, later turned I got to see their last as Red Sox.
  9. Oh wow, my thoughts & prayers will be with him
  10. Foxsports round-up of players on their new respected teams
  11. ah let him think that. Then 1 sox/yankees game will come at Fenway Park in a tied game that will see Loretta hit a walkoff shot against Kyle Farnsworth.
  12. Towers has also given Piazza the #32, the number Wells had worn in his time with san Diego.
  13. ok so now you're going to say Loretta is a lock to be on the DL? Anyways dont know where you got your stats, but Loretta has averaged 538 AB's over the last 3 seasons. Is it really foolish to think he will bounce back moving from PETCO to Fenway?
  14. so the balls that Loretta, Lowell & Gonzo hit towards left field in PETCO Park & Dolphins stadium that were caught at the wall or warning track.... is what will happen in Fenway? Is this just false hopesof yours? If those 3 have produced averages of 30 Doubles a season, then they are going to be a bust in Fenway? yeah thats a good one haha
  15. I was just wondering, when was on the all-star team. As it stands right now, he holds a 31-48 record, meaning he'd have to go 17-0 just to be a .500 pitcher and 3 of his 5 seasons has produced ERA's over 5. As it stands right now along with Chacon's stats against Boston, Im just not scared of him or about 3 dead pull hitters who leave pitcher's parks for Fenway Park? Oh thats right, it wont change anything
  16. it is true, Small & Chacon pretty much have been unknowns with unimpressive stats before last season. How can their career stats be just dismissed as easily?
  17. the beauty of matchups steps in then. They could call on Timlin who Giambi is just 2 for 13 against (.154 avg). Or call in Foulke early, 3 for 18 (.167 avg)
  18. call me crazy but getting on base is big part for a #2 hitter. Loretta trumps Rent. Some scuting reports as one of the best hitters in that position. Lest also keep in mind that Rent at Fenway Park produced just a .266 avg, .325 OBP batting in #2 position Mark Loretta 664 games- (.299 avg) (.361 OBP) (.404 SLG) (.765 OPS) 136 Doubles, 9 Triples Edgar Renteria 749 games- (.285 avg) (.340 OBP) (.385 SLG) (.725 OPS) 149 Doubles, 11 Triples
  19. Renteria had played hurt this last season, so that was noticeable Wells there's also Loretta's higher career OBP of .365 compared to Rent's .345. Loretta's bound to hit 12-16 Hrs. Better than Rent's mark of just 8. Loretta also K's a lot less Im having a hard time thinking that Rent is the better #2 hitter
  20. Pitching moves wont be that hard to come by through the next season. Wells is just about likely to be traded before the season starts, or at the trading deadline. Even so, this will be his last season anyway with Boston. Clement is next on the tradeable list. Also 2006 is looking like Mike Timlin's last season in the majors (Manny DelCarmen's 2007 role), and Foulke's last season of his contract (in comes Craig Hansen)
  21. Im with you there City. Ive never heard that analogy before. Loretta is a better #2 hitter than Renteria, so thats a non-issue. A 2 hitter needs to move the runners along and get on base, not hit HRs (thats an added bonus). The 3 & 4 hitters, now thats whose main goal is to hit one out.
  22. as for fielding stats, yes Id say Cano edges Loretta in errors that led to game winning runs for the opposing teams. How many times did that happen? It seemed like it was always against the D-Rays to boot. EDIT: Crisp was offered to NY for Cano? Hardly seems plausible since they got established duo of Belliard & Peralta
  23. Rise held a .213 avg against lefties this past season, career .205 overall... Yes we do have DiNardo but he bodes a .296 batting avg against lefties. In that case I would chose Riske over DiNardo.
  24. at the least Ortiz will be at 130. I just dont see a "DRAMATIC" drop in his RBI count. Loretta is by far a better #2 hitter than Renteria as he bodes a career .301 avg & .365 OBP. Such numbers are likely to repeat for 2006. As for Crisp, each season his OBP has gotten better. 2005 being at .345, this season we could see it at .355+. Keep in mind on the road away from the Jacobs Field (pitcher's park), he posted a .370 OBP. They will get on base for plenty papi to knock them in
