  1. Baltimore still remains an option too. They do have a ? surrounding Brian Roberts for the start of the season.
  2. Even though I want him to be here, it wouldnt be the playing time that he deserves. Which is a starting job. I just thought, why not the Florida Marlins? Pokey Reese & Alfredo Amezaga are the leading candidates to play 2nd.
  3. I was suggesting Church to platoon with Trot, him being left-handed cant negate the fact that thus far he has hit a good .310 avg against lefty pitching. He also would stand as the best option for a backup outfielder because of his versitality (play all 3 OF spots) and has not made a single error in his first 132 games. Also I believe there is potential for him to have a full time gig. The Expos & Nats' ballparks are both pitcher's parks. Home vs Away is a big comparison Home: (.239 avg) (.305 OBP) Away: (.297 avg) (.370 OBP)
  4. interesting tid-bits from rotoworld. One of them being about Tyrone Poole, whom I dont believe will be back in Foxboro.
  5. Ortiz still has a 2007 option on him. Which Im sure the Sox would pick up right or away/do an extension. I dont believe players can talk to interested teams if they still have options tagged onto them. ---------------------- A little note of interest here, new #s for Sox newcomers Crisp will wear the #12, recent owners have been Bellhorn & Walker Mohr will wear the #18, we know who the recent owner was ...
  6. Mike Myers taking a non-common sense shot at RS Sorry Mike but last time I checked, the Sox did beef up their bullpen from last year in versatility
  7. I understand that. But I would rather have the Sox trade Wells away for a couple lower level prospects than Soriano, thats just how much I am against him coming to the Hub.
  8. Then what do the Sox do with Loretta, demote our solid #2 hitter to a bench role? Really there's no room, no need for him. Soriano would seriously decrease the Sox's infield power. He's made 100+errors the last 5 seasons, K's up easily (just throw a pitch off the plate and he will go swinging easily), doesnt take walks, the list goes on. Please this "Soriano to Boston" has no merit
  9. Soriano would be our "renteria of 2005", we are talking 20+ errors he would give us. Loretta would be in the 10-15 range, edge Loretta. He also sucks with RISP. Whines when he doesnt get his way. OBP, thats Loretta as well (scouts have rated him one of the best #2 hitters in baseball) Ah what the hell Im doing, this is a dead issue, so why bother argue? Soriano is only coming to Boston as the opposing player. Plain & Simple. Theo is a better man not to make that type of assinine trade.
  10. Hence Nolan Ryan
  11. Promising report to say the least, if this kid can be able to psyche Papi out.
  12. haha Timlin taking a harmless shot at Jeter
  13. Schilling couple of days ago had a solid 16 min. throwing session (63 pitches) and allowed just one solid liner. Beckett & Papelbon in their sessions have taken suit
  14. Just relaying on the Wells to Nationals scenario, the Nats have indeed contacted the Sox. There ya go Sox FO. We have no need, let alone space for the over-rated Soriano. He would kill the defense-minded season the Sox are aiming for. Myself Im interested in outfielder Ryan Church http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7415/career;_ylt=AuyrYLJJc4YkAsLwZTUJ9suFCLcF Good option, thus far he has hit .310 again lefties, and he's a lefty himself (potential platoon partner with Trot). He has not made an error in his first 112 games (potential ate innings replacement as well, can play all 3 OF spots).
  15. I believe the worst offseason among contenders would have to go to the Angels, additions being: Edgardo Alfonzo, Jeff Weaver, J.C. Romero, Hector Carrasco. Their offseason mission was to find a big bat, Konerko said no thanks and the Angels wanted Manny. But as we know, the GM thought he didnt have to give up a lot for him. This is the Oakland A's season to reign supreme in the AL West I believe. ---------------------- Sidetrack: I just heard on WEEI that the Sox are planning on utilizing more small ball this season (bunts, hit & runs). Loretta is said to excel in those types of plays
  16. I heard on WEEI recently, that the Pats are said to be interested in Falcons' Brian Finneran. Intriguing option. Im hoping for Givens, but I know some team is gonna shell out more $$ than the Pats value him at.
  17. If Wells is still on the team come opening day, thats where the Sox will put him for the time being.
  18. Well Im shocked to say the least. A sports writer IS actually picking the Red Sox to win it all. Its foxsports writer Dayn Perry. Like Ken Rosenthal, he has been known to write articles that have been sometimes anti-Red Sox. Which makes it even more intriguing altogether. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5354492
  19. If he didnt, then the Sox would have already addresed it. Since they are having the 3 catchers compete for the backup job, i can only assume he has options left.
  20. They have space for Bard since, as noted Shoppach is now with the Guardians. And Wooten has signed a minor league contract with the Minnesota Twins. I wouldnt think about a replacement just yet, Varitek isnt close to wearing totally down. Also is entering year 2 of his $40 million contract
  21. He is a free agent this next offseason. Anything close to 2005 levels, he could command a 4-6 year deal. Budget-wise, the Sox have the upperhand over the Cubs. Also the Sox will have his former teammates: Beckett, Lowell, and Gonzo (if resigned) to try & entice him to the Hub.
  22. They have 2 1st baseman, not to see who's best at it. Snow is going to be mainly what Meinky & Olerud had done, pinch hit/late innings defensive replacement. Snow doesnt have that much left in him to start 140+ games. It is Youk's job until said different. I am however hoping (it is a longshot) for the Sox to acquire Derrek Lee in the offseason.
  23. I knew this was coming, and rightfully so Rotoworld ----------------------------------
  24. Easy... stop making the vendetta that I dont want Papelbon in the rotation. i do WANT him to start. Im just going by from what Ive heard in the papers, tv, radio, etc. As for Clement in the pen, that just couldnt work. Clement automatically has a spot beacuse of confidence from the front office, let alone he's got 2 years left at $17 million EDIT: Maybe during the trading deadline, Sox could go to the Brewers of a Clement for Carlos Lee swap. I do still see Clement being traded sometime from now to the next offseason. He'll have to be done with anyway. Starters signed through next year Curt Schilling (World series win had made his 2007 option guaranteed) Tim Wakefield (07 option) Josh Beckett (i believe he is arbitration eligible in the 06 offseason) Matt Clement Bronson Arroyo Jonathan Papelbon Jon Lester
  25. Other indications are that Matt Clement would be the #5 starter, with Wells or without Wells in the rotation. I believe its a good way of easing him in. Along with the fact, "projected" he wouldnt be starting that much against Toronto in the beginning of the season. Lets face it, the Blue Jays are grinning from ear to ear when Clement is on the mound. He is owned by them. --4 games vs Toronto, 0-2 record with an 8.34 ERA Clement in the #5 spot, first 3 starts ---7 games vs Baltimore, 4-0 record with a 3.00 ERA///3 games at Camden Yards, 2-0 record with an 0.90 ERA ---3 games vs Seattle, 1-2 record with a 2.70 ERA///18 games at Fenway Park, 9-4 record with a 4.76 ERA ---4 games vs Tampa Bay, 3-0 record with a 2.53 ERA Wells included Curt Schilling Tim Wakefield Josh Beckett David Wells Matt Clement Wells traded Curt Schilling Tim Wakefield Josh Beckett Jonathan Papelbon or Bronson Arroyo Matt Clement
