  1. excuse me for having an opinion. With the likes of Brandon Moss, David Murphy, Chris Durbin & Jacoby Ellisbury in the system.. where does he fit in?
  2. For the first 18 games of the season, the Sox will have to carry Adam Stern on the roster. Though I personally dont see whats the big deal if they have to give Stern back to the Braves. With depth of pitching we have, I dont see them carrying a 5th outfielder. Mohr will probably make his Sox debut in late April. According to Gordon Edes, Kapler cant return to team until May 15, even then he might not be 100%
  3. Someone help me out here. Is Orlando Cabrera saying that Manny is unhappy due to the # of times Sox have tried to part with him? If so, I give up. He also talks about how the Angels are Manny's top pick.
  4. Apparently he's not showing up until March 1st due to he is right now going through a new training regimen to work on his swing. In 2005 he didnt dominate lefties as much as in the past, and he was chasing more balls thrown out of the strike zone
  5. I agree whole-heartedly. More & more players are dropping out as each day goes by. By next week who knows who else will have dropped out to instead get ready for the new season.
  6. I agree, Varitek at the whole duration of camp is a great asset to have for the pitchers (new & old)
  7. Yankee fans, thoughts on who is on your wish list for right field? A Sox/Yanks bidding war (I miss those ) for Carlos Lee's services perhaps?
  8. No I understood full well what you said. You are taking the scouting report on his pitches in his single A stage, thinking that will nothing improve making him basically a career minor leaguer. With more experience & grooming, he can gain speed on his pitches, adapt new pitches, etc. We'll see how it goes this season. If Im wrong about him in the end, fine I'll be the one to admit .
  9. You would be correct on your assumption. Later in "Red Sox Now" followed by "FSN New England", the Sox have come to a compromise. Manny will report the latest date possible, that being March 1 --Manny will not take part in the WBC --Also Big Papi will stay in spring training along with Manny.
  10. Of course his pitches are not refined and he cant fool major leaguers, a lot of that has to do with the fact he just had his first season in single A league. Probably enter there again, with a Double A promotion possible if he produces anything close to 05 stats. He's just 21 & with Sox's farm directors, I believe he will keep moving in the right direction.
  11. Gordon Edes on "Red Sox Now" has just reported that sources have let him know Manny will pull himself out of playing for the Dominican Republic in the WBC. This would keep him in camp for the whole duration.
  12. Im sure the FO is ready to deal with his antics for the 2006 season, keeping Manny is a must to offset the possible offensive downgrade compared to last year's lineup. They can better address the issue next offseason when such sluggers as Carlos Lee & Derrek lee are hitting free agency
  13. The last Sox player that I had booed because of his bitterness to the fans, regardless of his stats was Carl Everett. Naturally Foulke is not up to his level. But just giving you an example.
  14. Nunez's fast ball has been known to top out in the 97-100 range. He just hasnt been able to harness the control. Still young, so doesnt hurt the Sox of giving him a shot as added insurance stashed away in Pawtucket.
  15. Clement had recently talked with Gordon Edes concerning Manny. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2006/02/21/for_clement_sticking_with_sox_is_a_big_deal/?page=1 Haha yea ok, ease up on there Clement.
  16. I guess he doesnt have a ticket handy to get on board the "logic train". Simply put: Pitching is baseball. Baseball is pitching. If he enjoys doing his job, he basically contradicts himself right there. There's probably a chip on his shoulder even moreso considering: (1) This is his contract year and not likely to be resigned with Hansen waiting in the wings to be the opening day 2007 closer. (2) The title of closer for 2006 is his to lose. Dont be surprised if by mid-season a cut or trade off could occur if his ERA comes any close to 2005 level. (3) You cant expect fans not to boo you if by July, you are blowing save after save and have compiled one of the worst ERAs for a relief pitcher in the entire league. Overall, of course Im hoping he can return to dominant form. That is the key for this season. With that, the dominoes can fall into place
  17. I came upon this on scout.com of projections for the 1st round of the 2006 draft. http://diamondbacks.scout.com/2/497341.html
  18. No doubt there will be a moment of silence in his honor on Opening Day at Fenway Park.
  19. damn, he almost had me going there Barry Bonds, just as quickly, has quashed that article. Stating now that 2007 is not out of the question. I hope he has a Rafael Palmeiro situation this year. http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20060219&content_id=1315857&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb
  20. obviously you know what I mean
  21. Nah its cool. It is is cool though to see guys like Schilling, Varitek & youkilis dump the jelly doughnuts in the offseason and get to the physique that will help them best. Especially Schilling. I believe the favorite is John Flaherty, who is of course coming from a 3 year tenure with the Yankees (RJ's personal catcher in 05. He just has this work ethic with pitchers that fits well with Boston & working with Varitek. Also giving the captain every 5th day off, for a catcher entering his age 34 season, I'll take it. As for offense... The team right now "on paper" is set to be solid at run prevention, that Im expecting to see a number of 3-1 wins and such. Even so they still have Papi & Ortiz (another combined 80 HRs/250+ RBIs) and players in Loretta, Gonzalez & Lowell who are moving from pitcher's havens to 1 Fenway Park. Those 3 should have bounce back years added to the fact those 3 are all dead pull hitters IMO hello green monster. Nixon if healthy I can see him getting to the 20 Hr mark & 70+ RBIs
  22. I had heard Varitek had lost weight over the offseason. Mostly done to avoid wear & tear by the end of the season, which is what we saw in that September offensive slump he had endured. I can definitely see a difference http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/gallery/02_17_06_spring?pg=6
  23. True but by all accounts I have read recently, the Sox are switching Pedroia back to shortstop. That will be the position he will be penciled in for Triple A. Some have predicted a call up as early as mid-season
  24. Stocker, for now I am withdrawing my claim of Jonathan Egan. As I have just become aware that last September Egan was stopped by police and found in possession of cocaine. For that puts a sour taste in my mouth.
