Welcome to the boards. Hope you enjoy it here.

I don't give a s*** what the Yankees do so long as the Red Sox do their thing.
-
The Rangers already lead the league in Total Revenue. They don't need the help. Besides, if the Rangers were to win it, they'd be grilled for this 'conspiracy' just like the NBA. I would think if the NHL were to rig it, it'd be for a market that is struggling to survive -- because if those markets don't, the NHL hasn't a chance. Without Crosby, Pittsburgh was in serious trouble and was very much in danger of relocation -- and I'm sure Pittsburgh is a market the NHL would like to keep.
-
True, but Pittsburgh is a market I'm sure they really want to survive -- and without a little help, it wasn't going to last much longer, despite Lemiuex's best efforts. I wanted to see him end up in Phoenix or Colorado. Because Colorado is my team, and Phoenix because I think it'd be cool to see him playing under Gretzky, who named him "The Next One"
-
Wow... Eh, I think it was rigged to where he was going to a team in a market that was struggling to survive. Pittsburgh fits the bill.

I think they can compete for a Championship, to be honest with you. But I really meant if they were to pick up a guy like Finley or Houston. I understand Houston is washed up -- but he can still shoot the ball, which is what they lacked last year. He'd be cheap, probably. And if the Mavs buyout Finley's contract, he'd get what? $15 mill. from them? Even he might be willing to go to a contender for cheap. Who was better than the Nuggets in the second half of the season, last year? Phoenix, and... well, nobody else. And that wasn't even with Karl's system fully installed. The team is fully capable of playing that kind of basketball all season, next year. They also did it without Vo, who was one of the best shooters in the league 2 years ago. A shooter was what they lacked, as I mentioned. Carmelo will be a year better and he played very much like an All-Star in the second half (I agree, great shoes, too). Vo back, as I mentioned, which should open up the court, K-Mart was injured for most of last season, A full season with George Karl, among other things. The reason for the decrease in Nene's minutes was because of injury, and he had never really gotten his timing back. Some, including myself, think that Nene should start over Marcus Camby while Camby comes off of the bench. Because coming off the bench is tough to do as an offensive player. I really meant it when I said the Nuggets will be towards the top of the League, this year. But sorry for hi-jacking the thread -- just saw other people mentioning their teams and figured I'd weigh in on mine.

Johnny Damon is wearing my nephew's light blue bracelet!!!
See Red replied to robwest's topic in Boston Red Sox Talk
That's really great. Great to see Johnny doing that for your Nephew. Best of luck to Dylan. I'll be thinking about him every time I see that light blue wristband. -
Don't put too much stock into the summer league, guys -- for better or worse. This is a league that Skita tore apart when he was a Nugget, yet he never did anything worth anything in the Regular Season. Success this season, in my opinion, would be a bonus for the Celtics if they get rid of either 'Toine or Pierce. They're definetely taking the right steps and will be one of the better teams in the league, down the road. The Clippers will be the best LA team as Phil Jackson is ridiculously overrated. I see the Clippers competing for the playoffs, at the very least. The Knicks -- eh, until a team with Stephon wins, I can't bring myself to believe that he's a winner. He'd be one of the best players in the league if he was capable of making his teammates better, but that doesn't seem to be the case. And my team, the Nuggets, will be one of the top teams in the League this year as Karl will have a chance to fully install his system. If they stay patient, they may be able to pick up a Michael Finley or Allen Houston if their teams buyout their contracts (maybe for cheap, even), and will become a team that will contend for the Championship. I'll add one more thing -- the days of the East being the weaker conference are over. From top to bottom, it may be weaker, but at the top, the Conferences are as close as they've been in a while.
-
No, it doesn't benefit me, but I still believe he's overrated. It bothers me that Jeter gets so much attention for plays that aren't special or were avoidable while David Wright makes a similar catch, but twice as nice, gets no credit for it. I enjoy watching Manny in the outfield too because he'll suprise you on occassion with a nice play and if he messes up, he's laughing about it and having fun out there. And I know that Lett also had that special teams blunder against the Dolphins -- but that ones inexcusable. I'm not a Pats fan, actually. I'm currently on the opposite side of the spectrum -- go 49ers.
-
Oh please. Team accomplishments don't make a good player. So that argument means absolutely nothing. By that theory, we could conclude that Dan Marino is a poor player for having never won. Some players are put into good situations, Jeter was one of them. \ Yes, Leon Lett was a "bad player" -- he was only a two time pro bowler (In a league in which such an honor is decided more-so by players and coaches, than by fans) and was a cornerstone on those Championship winning Dallas Cowboys defenses. In reference to his blunders -- the Super Bowl one took place in a 52-17 game. Boy, he really put the game in jeopardy with that mistake. I'm not saying he's a bad player -- but ESPN over reacts to everything he does. Like every single one of his defensive plays which are constantly blown out of proportion.

Actually -- there was a good article sometime last year about the downfall of the Cameron Crazy's and how lame their chants have gotten. It also mentions how the Cameron Crazy's are considered nerdy, even by duke standards. But that's neither here nor there. Back to the topic at hand -- and my two cents on what Canseco said. While Jeter is not the most overrated SS ever... he's very overrated.
-
Believe me, if that made the slightest bit of sense, or if your 'point' resembled the original topic in the slightest bid... I would.
-
I don't see the problem with shipping away Stern's speed when we'd be bringing in a man that's had atleast 35 steals three times in his career.
-
If Damon and Renteria had more stolen bases and were more of a threat to do so -- theoretically, wouldn't that lead to more fastballs to Ortiz and Manny?

July 15th vs New York
See Red replied to element1151's topic in Mike Grace Memorial Game Thread Forum
Nobody on the Yankees would stoop that low? Hitting batters is a natural part of the game -- I don't believe karate chopping the pitcher is and your named after a man that stooped to that level. What's your excuse for when we laid a similar drubbing on Pavano this season and sent you into a two week slump? -
The umpire should be fired regardless -- well, not fired, but punished. He had no right to throw Wells out of the game. If the umpire that Wells had been arguing didn't think Wells had crossed the line, who's the second base umpire to say he did?
-
I think 'The Red Sox have been able to figure out Rivera to some degree' may just be the biggest understatement ever. The Red Sox haven't 'figured him out'... they've owned him.
-
Way to change your argument. I see you've backed off of wanting that scientific poll proving that Sheff is a hated man. I've given enough reasons to hate him, and there's more. And to be honest, they're all perfectly acceptable. And yes, everytime you post, you prove your theory to be correct. People are f***ing stupid. Did he not come out and say that if the Yankees were to trade him, he'd be a cancer in any lockerroom he's sent to? Yep. That sure is a great attitude that I suggest all Major League players adopt. Great. When can we expect him to speak out about Alternate jerseys being used as a way to create more revenue? The HR Derby is a gimmick -- when can we expect him to call the MLB out on that obvious fact? It takes real 'balls' to speak against the MLB when you have the world's strongest union behind you. No, the majority of players play to win. Some have alterior motives, but in the end, nobody likes to lose. They know that winning defines you as an athlete. Interesting attitude for a man that's competed in three seperate HR Derby's to take on. No? He doesn't have to compete and I'd prefer he not -- but some players take pride in representing their countries which is something they currently don't get to do. Like I said -- I hope he doesn't compete as I'd prefer not to be represented by a piece of steroid manufactured bulk like himself. Yes -- it was an open fisted punch that swiped the side of his face. And upon jumping back, another fan accidentally knocked the beer over on purpose... A-Rod's numbers certainly haven't been $18 million better than Soriano's. Alfonso was good for a .300 average, around 40 HR's and 40 SB's, and 100 RBI's and certainly wasn't the primadona that A-Rod had shown to be at the time of the trade. Sheffield hits .452 with a runner on 2nd -- can you possibly imagine the pressure Soriano puts on a defense with his 40 steals hitting before Sheffield and the pitches Soriano (and even Sheffield) would be given to hit? Give me the lineup of Jeter, Soriano, Sheffield... over one with A-Rod. Especially for $18 mill less. The Red Sox infield has rings. I wonder which is more important to them. :dunno: A-Rod's a proven loser. He's shown no ability to carry a team on his back and everywhere he's left has improved. He can hit all the HR's he pleases in the regular season -- but until he shows up to a big game, comes through in a big spot, he's not a player I'd want on my team. George pays money to win, right? To pay $25 million to a man who hasn't shown the ability to do that, and has, infact, shown just the opposite impact on a team, is dumb no matter how you look at it. I would say it's safe to assume that my intelligence, whether inside, or outside, of the realm of sports, far surpasses yours. For one, because I don't hang around, for lack of a better term, my teams biggest rivals message board while being ass hurt whenever my team is slighted or insulted.

Isn't that, you're? No comma after 'that', *******. When did you take this poll? I'm interested in your scientific data You need a poll to figure out that people hate Sheffield? Do you think the Brewers pitchers, whom he criticized for not protecting him, liked him? Or Bill Spiers after Sheff said he only got the SS job because of race? And while it's not teammate related, do you think the guy that grazed him with a bullet liked him? Hell, I bet Kevin Brown, whom he crticized in LA hates him -- but fortunately, I don't believe Brown throws his teammates under the bus like Sheff did by calling Giambi a crybaby. And you know the fans hate him -- or did you turn a deaf ear to his being booed louder than everybody but Kenny Rogers (And really, it only took assaulting cameramen to steal the crown of 'Most Hated: ASG 2005' away from Sheffield)? Hell, even more amazing than that is that he hasn't even burnt any bridges in Detroit yet and they seem to hate him as much as us Sox fans do, or the Dodgers fans probably do, or the Brewers fans etc. Man, those Tigers fans sure can "find fault in anything", eh? You don't need scientific polls to discover that the guy is an ******* who's burnt bridges everywhere he's been. Mainly because he "Plays to win the game" (-Herm). That and he hits for about a .900+ OPS. I'll give you this one. As for you, BrentD22 -- stupid question. Why on earth would you think a Yankees fan would care about a players character and off-field issues so long as he produces on the field? As for him 'playing to win the game' -- every man on the Red Sox 'plays to win the game' -- it's needed to overcome seemingly impossible odds as they did last year -- and they didn't have one guy in that lockerroom that carried the type of baggage that Sheff does. Entirely besides the point. Fans know they can't reach onto the playing field, and they definitely know they can't hit the players. If it was Vinny from Brooklyn who hit Manny at Yankee Stadium, you would be killing Yankee fans. Not really. I defended his actions just like I defended Ron Artest's. What kills me is when Yanks fans say 'when the guy punched him' or 'Sheffield showed restraint' Yes, trading a young All Star 2nd baseman for A-Rod is just reprimandable. Forget it, there is no reason to respect that club. As every GM is taught -- always blow young talent for an overpaid primadona who's nothing more than a proven loser. I know! I mean who cares if he's outproduced the entire Red Sox infield. Out produced as in -- 'has won less Championships than'? If so -- then yes, that's correct. Have him show up to a big game and then we'll talk. And ending your argument in a quote from Chappelle's Show. What more intelligent of a way to end a conversation than that? Why not throw an 'I'm Rick James, Bitch' in there for good measure, next time. Or better yet, just revert to the classic Yankees fan argument of '26-6!' And let's say you do make the playoffs this year --I hope for your sake that your team doesn't try and play with both hands wrapped tightly around their necks again, momentarily releasing their grip only to cheat the game and karate chop the opponents pitcher.

Unfortunately, Manny Goes Boom, I think Jeter is already a Hall of Famer -- he may not be so deserving of it, but it's the truth. I think Jeter is in the first wave of Shortstops that could produce offensively. Before Ripken, shortstops couldn't really hit. He won't quite be judged on the offensive numbers of the shortstops before him, but he won't be compared to the numbers of guys like A-Rod, Tejada, and other good offensive Shortstops (yes, I consider A-Rod a SS, still) -- he'll fall somewhere in between. Plus, it's impossible to overlook his 'great defensive plays' which have been greatly over exaggerated. Like Jeter's diving play into the stands when he had room to stop or slide -- how often do you see David Wright's diving catch into the stands? And it was a FAR better play than Jeter's.
-
The only people I noticed that got booed were either wearing Yankees jerseys or were named Kenny Rogers. The rest sounded to me like they were cheered.
-
Then again, nobody's saying that Roy Oswalt is the pitcher in the league. As 'Yankees Captain'... Jeter has steered his team to within 2.5 games of a team whom they've out spent by a small margin of $85 million. On the opposite side of that... Varitek, who has a FAR more hands on roll in the success of his team has lead his outspent team to the division lead despite their ace missing practically the entire season and their closer struggling because he doesn't tell anybody he's injured. Not to mention the work that Varitek has to put in towards watching film and preparing so he can be the best in the league at something that there's no stat to measure. Championships are a team accomplishment, and Varitek hasn't played on some of the teams that Jeter has. And yeah, Jeter and A-Rod will both be Hall of Famers -- but Jeter is not so deserving. Let's face it, stats get you into the Hall of Fame and his stats look very much Hall of Fame worthy compared to those SS' inducted before him -- but they don't compare so favorably to some other SS' in the game today.

Yanks Promise Division Win??
See Red replied to SchillingIsTheNatural's topic in Boston Red Sox Talk
There's a difference between Varitek, or any Red Sox player, saying it and RUben Sierra saying it -- we're in first place and they're not. -
Let's not pretend the Guardians were playing great baseball going into that series. Besides, we had once gone into Jacobs Field and swept the Guardians when they were playing their best... so I'm not impressed. You were at home, we were on the road playing a team that was in a situation in which they HAD to do good -- the O's played like their backs were against the wall. Chances are, if not for game 1 of the series being called because of rain, we probably would've walked out with a 2-2 split because we had gotten into their crappy bullpen. And why aren't you the same team we faced? You still look old, overpayed, and now, you've got injuries. Come push us around in Fenway and THEN you can talk.
-
He was in a spot where he had a huge chance of failure in Game 6 of ALCS -- he didn't fail not because of luck, but because of his character and his ability to rise to the occassion when his team needs him. You'll soon notice that to be a recurring theme with Curt Schilling.
