  1. As good as our captain? *sigh* If I hadn't seen Yankee fans make even more absurd arguments than that in the past, I wouldn't believe you were making that argument. And hey, Jeter isn't even the best shortstop on his team.
  2. Have to agree -- they let that game go on about as long as they possibly could. I'd rather take the loss than risk an injury out there, even though a lot of our top guys weren't playing.
  3. As much as I hate to admit it, he's right -- he went from a pre-all star break 2.92 ERA to a post-all star break 5.09 ERA. I hope that's not the case this season.
  4. Wow, didn't expect a Yankees fan to agree with me. You, sir, are awesome. YANKEESRULE -- before an abundance of typos got in the way... were you meaning to say that Jeter is the best player in the game today? Please tell me that you weren't. He's a good player, and a great leader -- but then again, it's not terribly difficult to be the captain of a team with such massive a payroll.
  5. I've said it before and I'll say it again... him having contributed to winning us a World Series last year does nothing towards winning us balls game this year. Teams won't roll over and die because of how good he pitched in the playoffs. I'm not content with thinking that it's alright not to win again this year because we won it last year. Though he has been pitching hurt, so I take back some of the things I've said about him.
  6. What makes him great? I think that if he played anywhere but New York... nobody ever mentions his name. I don't mean to sound like I don't think he's good... but I think people calling him 'great' is what makes him overrated to me.
  7. Actually, interesting enough... looking at his splits on ESPN, Bellhorn hits .333 when it's "close and late" -- but I agree, I wouldn't feel too comfortable with Bellhorn hitting in that spot. But if our Bullpen hadn't been so bad so far, this division would be a runaway. Like someone mentioned, we're still the best lineup in the league with or without Bellhorn, so I would make bullpen the focus.
  8. Just out of curiosity, yankees228... why would a Yankees fan visit a Red Sox message board if they're so sensitive when it comes to having their team badmouthed? It's good that unless, he wins the Final Vote for the AL (which he won't if my votes have anything to say about it), the All-Star game will be Jeter-free. I like the man (As much as my Red Sox fan-dom will allow me to, anyway), but I do believe he's overrated. What kills me most is how much ESPN goes crazy when he makes plays that really aren't anything special. Like him running over his teammate, or him cutting off a ball when he was in a position he had no reason to be in to begin with (and had Giambi (?) slid, would've been null and void), or him diving into the stands when a slide would suffice...
  9. Jeter has class. I can respect anybody in a Yankees hat so long as they have class. And yeah, you guys are right about the deal that would've sent A-Rod to the Sox -- I was thinking that I remembered that he could've done it anyway, but then I remembered that he probably would've had to go to court to do so. My bad.
  10. No... it has nothing to do with baseball. But still, Tek would win easily. If I'm A-Rod in that situation and my team is on the brink of blowing a 3-0 series lead and going to game 7... and I'm making the money he does, I'd feel like I should accomplish a little more than hit a dribbler in between the pitcher and first. That's just how I would feel, though. I vote A-Rod. Not coming to the Red Sox because of what is, essentially, chump change, to him... the incident with Tek, the bitch slap incident... can't stand the guy. It's not nessecarily the bitch slap that pisses me off... it's the "What did I do?" reaction afterwards.
  11. I think the reason a lot of people see Beltran as a disappointment is that people have been expecting him to be as good as he was in the playoffs last year (that was, after all, what got him the money he got)... but nobody is as good as he was in the playoffs last year -- it's not even humanly possible to play that well over an extended period of time. He had been hurt, too, and he said he'd wait till he was 100% to try and steal bases. I should add that I vote for Beltre.
  12. Is that what they call that? A "Punch in the face"? Please. The guy was reaching for the ball and grazed Sheffield. But you see it how you want to see it, I guess. And yep, that's the kind of guy you want -- when talk about trading him to improve your team starts, he goes on a tirade to ensure that nobody wants him. The guy is a dickhead, pure and simple.
  13. ... And it was so easy to be a Sox fan after Game 7 of 2003. Am I supposed to feel bad because you've experienced once what most of us have experienced throughout our entire lives?
  14. Because while you may be a Yankee fan that hasn't rubbed their dominance in other peoples faces... you're the exception to the rule. It's not meant to be a shot at you -- just a shot at the Yankees fans that do insist on constantly reminding us of the past.
  15. Well, he is 6'8". I can't believe he fell to 18. I'm still in absolute shock over that. There's going to be a lot of teams that regret passing him up. In my opinion, the Celtics had the best draft (and have certainly done the best over the past 2 years), but it's tough to not have the best draft when T-Mac version 2 falls onto your lap. Man, the Celtics are going to be a force to be reckoned with in the future if they handle these kids properly.
  16. I don't know, I'm still undecided on Francona. I will say this, though -- having won us a World Series last year does nothing towards getting us another this year and frankly, I want some more Championships. I just don't think he's that good of a manager.
  17. You say the Red Sox can't play great ball all-season like you actually believe they've played great ball all season. This team is, I believe, 3 games behind their pace from last year and if this August is anywhere near as good as last, the Yankees don't have a prayer. Not to mention, the Red Sox are just now beginning to play their best ball and STILL lead the division. Face it, the rest of the AL East can improve. The Red Sox can improve their bullpen -- how, without sacrificing what little future they have, can the Yankees improve? As long as George is making the decisions rather than the baseball people underwhich the World Series teams were built, get used to being in the middle portion of the AL East standings.
  18. Personally, I'd criticize any player that saw fit to do a curtain call after a good, but not spectacular, performance like Matsui's. If every player did that, curtain calls would occur so often that they'd lose all meaning. And for the record, calling somebody whom you've never before met an 'ignorant jerkoff' based on one comment he made makes you seem like an ignorant jerkoff. Especially when said comment was an opinion.
  19. Agreed -- any time you agree to terms based on assumed injuries you're setting yourself up for a lack of playing time.
  20. If I remember correctly, the Devil Rays have a deadline by which they have to be out of Tropicana Field -- and since the state of Florida doesn't seem willing to help pay for new stadiums, it could be the Devil Rays that move. Though, say what you want about how bad they are, according to Forbes, they're the #2 team in the League in regards to operating income.
  21. In addition to the Sox winning, the Orioles just dropped a home game to the lowly Rockies (Who, I think, are on pace for the worst road record in MLB history)
  22. At this point last year, the Red Sox were playing far worse than they are right now.
  23. I certainly wouldn't mind drafting Gerald Green if I was a team that was looking farther down the road. Everything I've read suggests he can turn into a T-Mac type player (I think Green is the one I'm thinking of, anyway). As for Paul, I'm still not too sure about him. At Wake, in terms of scoring, he seemed to be a different player every other night. 20 points one night, 5 or 6, the next. Marvin Williams will be the man, out of this draft. I'm not convinced about Bogut yet... but there's no doubt in my mind that Marvin Williams has the makings of a superstar. I wouldn't count on him falling to the 3rd pick, though, if that's who the Celtics are looking at moving up for.
  24. I think the comparisons to Camby come from his shot blocking ability, though he only had 1 block per game, last year. I don't know, I saw this comparison from nbadraft.net. I think the Marion comparisons stem from the fact that he'll be more athletic than just about any player you can put on him.
