  1. I think he probably used some sort of performance enhancing substance at some point during his career. Of course I have no evidence to support that, unlike with my Biggio claim , but I just have that feeling, like we do with some. I could also very well be wrong, and I hope I am. But Kent was never a guy I was a fan of, he just rubbed me the wrong way. He's a borderline HOF player, he's had a good to great carrer, not disappinted to see him go though.
  2. According to Adam Ruben of the Daily News Freddy garcia has decided on the Mets, agreeing to a Minor League deal worth potentially $8-9 million in incentives. http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/mets/2009/01/garcia-lands-with-mets.html I guess the Yankees weren't willing to go that high in incentives since he didn't get the guaranteed Major League contract he was looking for. I think if he meets all of those incentives and reaches the maximum vaue it would be a reasonably fair deal. Freddy Garcia in top form, especially when he was in Seattle, was a real good pitcher.
  3. I'm kind of curious why they're counting wins on the Inauguration day of another country. lol
  4. Looks like we don't have to worry about Freddy, apparently he's about to sign a minor league deal with the Mets.
  5. I'm not sure how much over budget the Stadium went, not much i dont think, but I could be mistaken. That's not the issue thoguh, the issue is where the money is coming from, which we've acknowledged is wrong. And the only reason it is wrong is because all along the organization was claiming it would be 100% privately financed, which obviously didn't turn out to be the case. But as for the budget, like ORS said things change. Plans change. Almost nothing costs as much to build as originally thought and budgeted. That can be said for probably every Stadium built in recent history. It doesn't make them a bad business, because the new York Yankees are far from that. I'm not dick-riding with that statement, I'm just telling the truth. Most profitable franchise in American sports, for various reasons (market, network, stadium, merch, etc.). I just don't see why it bothers you so much that a lot of the money is coming from city taxpayers. You don't live in the city (nor do I), hell you don't even live in the state. It shouldn't really concern you. I think your issue is less with the funding of the Stadium and more with the Yankees spending, and that's fine. But if that's the case then say so, don't hide behind this stupid Stadium argument.
  6. First, what makes you think Yu would be holding down the back of the rotation for 4 years? By the 2010-2011 offseason, when you "expect" him to be posted, CC will be one year from opt-out eligibility, Burnett will probably be hurt, and who knows about Wang, Joba, and Hughes. Hopefully they're all rock-solid. But even if A.J. was in full form, I think it's possible Yu could overtake him in the rotation. Either way, I think you have to put everyone else's contract status aside when it comes to a talent like this. Who cares if you have 5 starters under contract already. The last 6-8 years have shown us one thing, and that's that you can never have enough pitching. Injuries happen, people don't perform up to expectations, etc.
  7. No, he claims that he wants top win 200 games in Japan before coming over. Right now he has 48. Whether or not he changes his mind is still yet to be seen. While he has expressed some desire to play in the Majors at some point, he seems committed to NPB and the Fighters for the time being. And Kawakami, although he's no Dice-K, he was pretty damn good over there. But then again so was Igawa. We'll just have to wait and see though, hopefully he can be a quality pitcher with Atlanta.
  8. In that thread it seems jacko denied being a med student, and I guess claimed to be a businessman or something. But now isn't it common knowledge around here that he's a doctor? Something smells fishy. ....oh wait, he fessed up later in the thread. That was hilarious I can't believe i never came across that thread. Now all I have to say is, despite him being an improved poster since coming back as jacko, he should still be banned. Rules is rules, and he broke them. BAN THE f***ER!!! ..na i'm j/p, it's moot at this point.
  9. Yu is projecting to be BETTER than Dice-K. No chance Absolutely. The Yankees thought they had done that with Matsuzaka, making a bid higher than any other in the history of the NPB-MLB posting system. Turns out their bid was third best. They're really going to have to shell out a TONNNN of cash to get Darvish's rights. I think after losing out on Dice-K though, Cashman will be hard-pressed to let Yu slip by. Even if it means offering $60-75 million.
  10. I realize, what's your point? We still signed an injured pitcher knowing that he wouldn't be able to contribute right away, and let him rehab in our organization. That's the only point I was trying to make Dr. Smarty Pants. ...speaking of injured pitchers, it seems Freddy Garcia has narrowed his choice of teams to the Yankees and Mets. This according to Ken Rosenthal. He's looking for a Major League contract. I dont know if Cash would be willing to go that far, possibly though if the dollars were reasonable. I think he'd be the perfect candidate for a low base, incentive-laden deal. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/9116232/Source:-Mets,-Yanks-lead-pack-pursuing-P-Garcia
  11. Agreed, which is why it should be played in November
  12. He's right, it is not the player's choice.
  13. I think you got a little too defensive there. All good though, made me laugh But seriously, let's look at a few things. In pointing out what Manny did and didn't do you forgot to mention the protection he provided in the lineup. His presence alone in a lineup is a contribution. The game-plan vs the Red Sox changed completely after manny was dealt. I understand it was time for him to go, and he needed to go. Fair enough. But don't discount the effect his presence had. Jason Bay is no Manny Ramirez. I'm not saying he's irreplacable, but he's not one who is easily replaced. When he pointed out Ellsbury's downward spiral from June on you accuse him of talking s***. I didn't see it that way at all. He was pointing something out a legitimate fact. That doesn't mean our lineup, especially our CFers, didn't have their struggles, because they obviously did. Are you saying that one is not allowed to point out an opposing player's struggles unless none of the players on that person's team experienced struggles? That's ridiculous, but if that's how you feel then you should keep your mouth shut when it comes to criticizing any Yankees. I'm not trying to be confrontational or anything, but that's sort of what I gathered from that part of your post. ok....it's late. Bed time
  14. Angels 1st, Brewers 2nd, Blue Jays 3rd. I posted it in another thread where this was discussed, with a link. I'll try and find it.
  15. No, I'm saying that it didn't begin with Clemens, and that it's quite possible that it happened with another team prior to the Yankees signing Leiber and that none of us seem to recall off the top of our head. Either way I agree that the Yankees aren't going the "Red Sox route." Whether they started it or not, it's something that was done way before the Red Sox started doing it.
  16. So that would be implying that the Yankees or Astros were in on it, and I think that's a bold accusation to make without any evidence.
  17. I would love the idea of bringing Freddy in on a Minor League deal with a ST invite. Sign him up.....
  18. Good. This needs to be done.
  19. I think something to that effect will most likely happen, if they don't scrap compensation all together, which I've also heard mentioned. I think you're idea is more likely though.
  20. Congrats to Jim Rice. I just dont get what makes him more deserving this year than last year. or the past 14 years. I guess there was a sense of urgency since this was his last year on the ballot, the writers didnt want to leave his fate up to the veterans committee. Either way, congratulations. Now lets get Mattingly in!
