  1. And besides, I think Joba is the perfect candidate to take over for Mo in the closers role after he departs in 3 years when his contract is up. I'll be the first to admit, I was always an advocate of Joba becoming a starter, even when he was a dominant setup man, but there are other factors to consider at this point. I'm not saying I would have a problem with him being a starter, but i think we're a better TEAM with him setting up Mariano and eventually taking over for him.
  2. I hope if he goes anywhere besides here its w the Dodgers w holy Joe!
  3. How is there no spot for Abreu? I get the money, but in terms of space on the field I don't get it. You said the same thing about Manny. Granted, we have enough outfielders, but most are bench material. If nady is gone and we don't add another outfielder our OF is Damon, Gardner/Melky, and Swisher. Give me Manny, Abreu, or even Nady and we're straight. As for Pettitte, I'm tired of this already. This should not still be being dragged out. If he's gonna stay get a f***ing deal done already, if not then move one. I say we go out and sign Sheets (or Lowe if Cashman so wishes, I would prefer Sheets however) TOMORROW and then see how Pettitte reacts. I bet you he comes crying and willing to accept a reduced offer. If he doesn't, fine we still have a solid rotation. If he does, then we can move Joba to the pen and I think that maximizes our staff potential. s*** just needs to be resolved already!!!
  4. It wasn't discussed much, it was just assumed that Andy would be the #5, but when you take into account Joba's innings limit (which is why he should be in the bullpen) and the fact that the #1 (C.C.) is a lefty, as is Andy you don't really want to stack your 2 lefties up one after the other in the rotation.
  5. Are you kidding? I'm pretty sure you are. You are aware that Small was a spring training invite who struggled at Columbus most of the season until about June or July, when he seriously contemplated retirement. I believe his wife talked him out of it, he improved at AAA and came up and made a spot start. Just so hapens he went 10-1.
  6. I'm not disputing any of those points, I'm just saying Coke throws harder than Kennedy.
  7. As someone who follows NPB, and particularly the Giants I think Koji would have been best-served as a reliever, but he really had his heart set on starting here and the Orioles gave him that chance. When the Giants moved him to the pen for a year or 2 a few years back he was really one of the best closers in the league though. Also in other news, the Yankees sign Angel Berroa to compete with Cody Ransom as the utility infielder. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/9039534/Sources:-Yanks-sign-IF-Berroa-to-minor-league-deal
  8. haha touche
  9. Yankees sign John Rodriguez, who played several seasons in our farm system. Decent depth insurance. http://blogs.nypost.com/sports/st/archives/2009/01/yanks_sign_john.html

  11. In case anyone's interested here's a list of all the players who have played for both the Yankees and the Sox in the regular season at the Major League lever (Minor Leaguers and Spring Training invitees such as Enrique Wilson, Michel Hernandez, etc not included). http://www.baseball-reference.com/friv/multifranchise.cgi?level=franch&t1=BOS&t2=NYY&t3=&t4=&submit=Find+Players
  12. Of those that I listed (and it's not even like he did much). Those were just a few off the top of my head. Pretty much, yeah. Although in some cases I'm serious. Like seeing David Wells in a Boston uniform was horrible. I thought my eyes were going to burn out of their sockets.
  13. He's not the only one. Sergio Mitre, who was signed by the Yankees this offseason has also been suspended 50 games. He's recovering from TJ and isn't expected to return to action until mid-season anyway. http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/viewtopic.php?t=503968
  14. And another thing to consider if you're Pettitte is that although reports are that the Yankees are content going into the season with Hughes as the #5, I have to think the Yanks would have to consider looking elsewhere to fill the spot that was intended for Andy. Say a Lowe, Sheets, etc. Andy might find himself without a spot if he drags this out too long. Then again I suppose the possibility exists that if the Yankees do sign another starter and then Pettitte decides he wants to return that Joba could go to the pen to accomodate both Andy and whoever else would have been signed. I think that's the best case scenario. But it seems the Yankees are pretty set on letting Joba start out in the rotation.
  15. LMAO If Giambi got $10 Mil I would be shocked, truthfully.
  16. The postseason is a crapshoot no matter what my dude. You're kidding yourself if you think otherwise.
  17. I truly think that despite making $16 mil last year that based on his worth $10 mil is a generous offer. Look at the contracts some of the free agents have had to settle for this offseason, it's clear the owners aren't as free-spending as in years past, with the state of the economy and whatnot. Does he really think he can get a better deal elsewhere? And besides, $10 mil is no small chunk of change. You give me $10 mil and I'll never work another day in my life.
  18. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/06/sports/baseball/06yanks.html?_r=2&ref=sports Tyler Kepner of the Times is reporting that Andy Pettitte has rejected the $10 million offer that the Yankees have had on the table all off-season. It seemed inevitable that Pettitte would return next year, then there was a shadow of doubt, however it was ion the Yankees part. It's obvious the Hendricks brothers have been trying to drive the offer up for quite some time, but if he really wants to stay with the Yankees this is a bold move. I don't see Ca$h increasing the offer at all. If Andy wants to go elsewhere; Texas, Atlanta, wherever then fine, I say let him go at this point. After all of the support he received from the fans and the organization last year after he was named in the Mitchell Report this disgusts me. Here's a September quote from Pettitte, “Obviously anyone else would say, ‘I’ll go wherever I want to,’ because people want to try to get the most money,” Pettitte said before a Yankees-Angels game in Anaheim, Calif. “But, I mean, I’m not going anywhere, you know what I’m saying? The Yankees know me enough, it’s not like I’m going to hold out. I guess if I had spent all my money or whatever, it might be different. But it’s not about that, really, anymore.” All I can say to that now is ********!
  19. God Dammit! Green's a former Yankee. I hate seeing former Yankees sign with the Sox, whether it be David Cone, Enrique Wilson, David Wells, or Nick Green. s***!
  20. I think he deserves a standing ovation, and will probably get it.
  21. Blyleven Henderson Mattingly Rice ..maybe Dawson
