Very disappointing trip to Queens. Hopefully we can even things out back in the Bronx before the Sox come to town. I've got a good feeling about tomorrow night with Phelps on the mound. Partially because I'll be there, and the Yanks are perfect in games that I've attended so far this year. Those numbers that Standing Room posted are very telling, though. Looks more like what everybody expected from us coming into the season. Hopefully getting Tex and Youk back in the lineup possibly as early as Friday will help. Only downside is Adams and Overbay lose their playing time, and very possibly their roster spots.

I'd bring Amare's dumbass off the bench if it was my call. Hard to justify that though when you're paying him all that money.
-
I agree with you on Mustilier. Whether or not he can be a serviceable ML backup, but I'd at least give him a look during the spring. I think Nix will find his way back on the roster, though. As for the relievers, you bring up a valid point about Logan's workload, but like Jacko said, now isn't the time to be trading big league arms. As for another lefty, I'm very curious to see what Cabral can do healthy. If I'm not mistaken, the Rule 5 procedure still applies to him, right? Meaning that he needs to be kept on the active roster (or DL) or offered back to Boston? I'd also definitely like to try and sign Perez I'd rather have a big bag

I was shocked he didn't reunite with Tito in Cleveland. I don't understand why they signed Reynolds before Youk signed, unless Youk gave them some sort of indication he wasn't going to go there. He probably went with the 1 year deal to reestablish some value so he could get more than $9 Mil a year on a multi-year contract. I'm sure the extra $3 Mil didn't hurt either.

It's funny you say that, because as much as I love the Yankees, I hate most Yankee fans. You might be on to something with point #1, but I thought of it more as a desire coming from Ichiro, rather than the Yankees wanting to lock him up for 2 years, for whatever reason. It's crazy to think how close he is to 3,000 though. Even crazier to think how close he is to 4,000 when you combine his NPB & MLB hit totals (3,884). As for Grandy, it's really starting to look that way, unfortunately. Postseason struggles aside, not only is he one of the three power hitters who'll be on our opening day roster this year (baring injury to either him, Tex, or Cano), but he's a great guy in terms of character, a great role model for the kids, and a great ambassador for not only the Yankees, but MLB as a whole. You always hear about him going on these goodwill trips. I remember he went to New Zealand a few years back, he's in Asia this year, etc. I know you can't look at those kind of things when building your roster, but it'll be a shame to lose that kind of personality. I'm just concerned with how we're going to replace those power numbers, especially if Cano walks, which as I said in my earlier post, wouldn't shock me one bit.

You're probably right. A-Rod isn't a full time 3Bman anymore, and needs to DH the majority of the time. I hate to say it, but if Youk's only here for 1 year, then so be it. Into the ground he shall be run.

Just the thought of that horse ride brings a huge smile to my face It's been so long, I almost forgot how awesome Emmz was lol. That's exactly what I'm gonna say if Swisher signs up there, even though we chose not to bring him back. But just like BSN07 said, they don't give a s***. This is business to them. The days of Jackie Robinson getting traded to the Giants and choosing to retire before he ever wore black and orange are long gone. It's all about the money

I still can't get over how many Yankee fans hate this move
-
That's funny, I always kinda had a feeling we'd see Youk in pinstripes, as well.

Long time since I've been here. It's nice to see some familiar faces, and just as nice to see a new batch of Yankee fans posting across enemy lines. A lot of the Yankee fans I've talked to are pissed about the Youk signing, but all things considered, I think he was the best available option, and I'm looking forward to seeing him don the pinstripes. I'm not expecting much out of him, but as long as he gets on base and plays with that grit and passion that he's known for, I'll be satisfied. I was very disappointed to see Martin leave (but glad to see him end up in Pittsburgh. Some of you might remember, but for several years I've been closely following the Pirates. It's nice to see them getting closer and closer), but I'm more than content with letting Cervelli & Stewart split time while Romine gets some time in AAA. I know a lot of Yankee fans feel that we need to go out and overpay for a Pierzynski type or something, but I fully disagree. Curious to hear what some of your guys' take is on the catching situation. I'm glad we're (likely) bringing back Ichiro, but I'm a little concerned about the offensive output of our outfield this coming year. Either way though, this has to be one of the top defensive OF's in the game. I'm very curious to see how the Granderson situation plays out. I doubt he'll get traded during the offseason or regular season, but it'll be interesting to see what happens next year. Personally, I think we should resign him, so long as the strikeout numbers improve. But outside of signing Hamilton (which there is probably absolutely zero chance of if they're serious about staying under the luxury tax threshold for next year, which it seems they are, as they should be, and understandably so...paying 50% on the luxury tax is ridiculous), he's the only source of power in our OF. Speaking of power, who else sees Cano leaving town after this season? I'm sure Boras will get him a better deal somewhere, probably with the Dodgers, and since he's already said there will be no hometown discount, he'll probably take it. What do you guys think the odds of us shopping him for an extremely hefty return come July are? It might seem unthinkable now, but it wouldn't shock me. I realize that for now I'm getting ahead of myself, so let's just stick to the current offseason. What other major needs do you guys see? It'd be nice to have another arm for the pen, but I'd be content giving Montgomery every chance to win the job. As for the bench, I know this is probably a very unpopular opinion given his postseason performance, but I don't think we should bring Raaaauuuul back. As for infield depth, it looks like Nunez will be on the roster, and Nix will come to camp with every opportunity to play his way back on to the roster. Another possibility that someone discussed with me is bringing Chone Figgins to camp to try out for a super utility role. Now before you all laugh at me, think about it. Versatile guy, can play almost anywhere, and wouldn't cost us more than a minor league contract and an invite to spring training. If he makes the club, we're on the hook for the league minimum. I think it's worth a shot. Well I look forward to catching up with you guys again, and hearing your opinions.

I think considering the alternatives, Youk is the best available player for the role. I'm not crazy about him either, as he has always been that player that I loved to hate. But I'm sure he'll bring that same grit and passion to the Bronx, and hopefully I enjoy rooting for him this year as much as I enjoyed rooting against him in years past. Here's to hoping he has a huge year!
-
No doubt about it. At least even when he's struggling, he's still keeping us in the games and giving us innings. A true ace in every sense of the word. Also, it's been a while since I've been here, but it's nice to still see some of the 'old guard' of us Yankee fans still posting here.

That's too much if you ask me. Forget Danks, forget Wilson....if Darvish gets posted, I know a lot of people won't agree with me but, they need t do whatever it takes to get him. I know people are reluctant given the recent history with big $ Japanese pitchers coming over, but Yu Darvish is a special player and an amazing talent. If he doesn't get posted I say do whatever it takes to get Buehrle. I want no part of CJ Wilson or Edwin Jackson.
-
Could you blame them? Who would want to sit in that Stadium. I agree with Dojji that Montreal needs to get another team, I just don't know if now is the time. But hopefully sooner than later. The Expos drew well for a long time (although towards the end you wouldn't think so). They need to get a new Stadium built up there and get the right ownership group in place.
-
I'd say its pretty innaccurate, but it's a cool map nonetheless. I think the Giants have a bigger following than the A's. Like someone already said the Pirates fanbase isn't that large (although I love them lol), I think the Braves extend into North Florida, etc. I could pcik out a few other little things, but an awesome idea anyway. I love it!

Sox acquire Franklin Morales and DFA Okijima
26 to 6 replied to RedSoxFaithful's topic in Boston Red Sox Talk
I hope the Yanks at least consider taking a flier on Okajima if he isn't claimed by someone else first. Good move for the Sox though, Morales has great stuff and a world of potential if he can put it all together. -
I swear to god I have that same pic as my avatar on baseball-fever.com. Found it immediately after the trade was completed. I think I even used it on here for a while. I feel like you stole it from me

my bad I didn't see it anywhere and I checked before I posted.

I just saw on MLBTR a post citing a twitter post by Yahoo's Tim Brown stating that the Sox have signed Millwood to a minor league deal. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2011/05/red-sox-sign-kevin-millwood.html http://twitter.com/#!/TBrownYahoo/status/71381796117413888 :harhar:

I don't understand why the Sox haven't signed Bengie yet. And as for SS there's a lot of speculation here in NY that Jose Reyes will be sporting a Red Sox uniform at some point in the near future. But idk how high the organization is on Iglesias, and that will have a lot to do with whether the Sox A) trade for him as a rental player when the Mets fall out of contention; 2) trade for him this year and extend him, or C) just sign him in the offseason.
-
Wow, I'd hate to know how you learned that lol. ..jk man. That's pretty crazy though. I'm not a very big Granderson fan either, especially considering the price we payed for him, but hopefully he has a nice season. It looks like Feliciano's opening day status is in doubt due to upper arm tightness, which he also experienced at the start of the spring. The Yanks should know by Tuesday whether or not he'll be able to break camp with the team. If not, Girardi specifically mentioned Romulo Sanchez and Luis Ayala.
-
I think Meh's projection for opening day roster is spot on assuming Grandy ends up on the DL. It seems like Molina's going to get the nod, although with Cervelli down I was hoping to see one f the kids make it. They're better off playing everyday though.
-
Ahh that's right, I remember. Alright cool, as long as you let him know. Alright cool, just send him an email and he'll get you set up.
-
Refresh my memory, did you play in this league last year? I only ask because if you did I want to let Gom know that you won't be playing this year that way he can remove your team.
-
Gom has this league up and running again. Everyone who played last year should have gotten an email. If you didn't play last year and want to play this year email Gom at mohamedwalid@hotmail.com ....we lost a few players from last year so the more the merrier. It's free to play and usually a pretty fun league.
