  1. The red jerseys started 2 years ago and were instituted by the new ownership which decided to make the color red more prominent in the uniform. The team also switched to wearing red sleves under their jerseys instead of the traditional blue.
  2. Thank you, Boston Red Sox.
  3. What a way to start the new season.
  4. I was there too and missed the last out. I was sitting with hands folded, saw Foulke pitch and then heard the gasps and my wife yelling Yeah!
  5. I was there and it was the most amazing night I have ever spent at a sporting event. Chants of "Let's Go Red Sox" throughout the upper deck, the game never seemed in doubt. People cried, cheered, called relatives and friends on cell phones as we all charged down towards the Sox dugout. We stayed and cheered "Thank You Red Sox" as they brought out the trophy and Schilling sprayed us with champagne. Sox fans wandered the streets of St. Louis hugging each other and cheering, it was like a dream, but it was real and we are the champs!!!!
  6. Once you have a team down, never let them up, don't give them a single reason to feel good about themselves. The Sox need to finish this and finish as soon as possible. Trot showed signs of coming around and Manny, Mueller, Cabrerra, Ortiz and Damon need to stay locked in at the plate. I expect Lowe to be sharp just like Game 7 of the ALCS. GO SOX!!!!
  7. It's like there is a giant elephant in the room and no one notices. I feel good but I am not overly confident at all. Today will seem like the clock is moving in slow motion.
  8. I was at the game last night and it was a blast. A good number of Sox fans in the upper deck and we were very vocal. The Sox look like a team that is "locked in." Pedro's change up was unreal getting hitters to check swing on 2-0 counts, Manny was amazing and Papi looked great at first.
  9. Pedro has come along way from under the mango tree. This is the game he's waited for since he came to Boston and I have a feeling he will be explosive. He's got 7 days rest and the weather is warm, the way he likes to pitch. Like most of the Cards pitchers Suppan throws high 80's and is around the plate, just the type of pitcher Sox hitters like. Trot needs to break out his mini slump. GO SOX!!!!
  10. I've seen Mueller get handcuffed by groundballs before but never like this. I think the Sox were lucky and good tonight by giving away outs and still holding a lead. On top of that Nixon and Millar are not having good at bats and Manny looks tired, but this team pulls it together with some very clutch hitting. Foulke seems really "locked in" nailing down 5 and 6 outs. I expected a short series and I say end it in St. Louis.
  11. The story came out during the post game press conference about Curt and the all the pre game rumors that he would not be able to pitch. According to Schilling he woke up at 7am Sunday unable to walk. Apparently Dr. Morgan put in an extra stitch in Curt's ankle that was pinching a nerve. The stitch was removed and Curt says the ankle started to feel better. The Sox came dangerously close to not having Curt pitch Game 2 and most likely Schilling is now done for the year. Number 38 is truly an amazing athlete, whose incredible desire to help his team is fast making him a New England sports legend.
  12. These errors are making me nuts. It's time for Tito to get Pokey and Mank and maybe even Youk in the game.
  13. Very tough hop on Mueller. All things considered Curt did a great job getting Rolen and Edmonds after the Pujols double. 2-1, let's get some runs.
  14. Tough first inning for Curt. There was blood again, and alot of pitches.
  15. Sox hitters are on a roll and they need to keep it going. They need to be patient with Morris, lay off his curve ball outside the striek zone and make him pitch behind in the count. Morris has had an up and down year, and maybe the miserable conditions at Fenway will affect him. Who knows what to expect with Schilling. ESPN Radio says there are rumors he won't be able to pitch tonight or won't be available the rest of the series or he is just fine. I do expect him to get jacked up by the Fenway crowd who will wave their bloody rally sox. GO SOX!!!!
  16. Torre did not have the arms to make brilliant moves, and besides when his closer Rivera can't save two games in a row, how does that make him outmanaged? Francona has held together things well, but even last night in the 6th he let Arroyo pitch to Walker with two out and the tying run on, while Myers was warming up. Walker hit a double to tie the game. Why warm up the "situational" lefty and not bring him in at a critical moment to face a left handed hitter? That's why some of us scratch out heads and wonder about Francona.
  17. The team did not play well. Millar has a lousy game, with bad at bats, a wild throwing error and getting caught playing way off the line for Walker. Manny was only part of the problems. It was ugly but it was a win, and Schilling is next.
  18. Just like the Super Bowl, alot of tickets are not available to fans. It was all season ticket holders and corporate and employees from the teams. As for the game, I think we were lucky to come away with a win in this one. 4 errors, ineffective pitching from Wake, and I'm sorry to say Francona - why let Arroyo pitch to Walker when he has Myers in the pen? And why was Millar 15 feet off the line for Walker? Plus Manny's circus act in left. We were lucky and need to play better.
  19. Wow, the Sox are pounding the ball.
  20. Tito has Cabrerra hitting 2nd and Bellhorn hitting 9th.
  21. Agreed.
  22. Dance, knuckler, dance. I'm looking for Damon and Bellhorn to get on consistently and Manny to start banging some RBI's. I just have a feeling Mirabelli will have a good game. GO SOX!!!!
  23. It's interesting how all the talk earlier this year was about inserting Wake in between Schilling and Pedro to throw hitters off balance. What makes this a potentially great move is if the Sox win tonight, then we throw Schilling and Pedro at them for the next two games.
  24. Good write ups. I live in St. Louis and I've seen alot of their games. It's interesting to note that the Cardinals pitchers are very good hitters, something to look for in Games 3,4,5. Suppan is not the same guy he was in Boston last year, Marquis can be tough but he has a tendency to hang his sinker. With Carpenter hurt Williams is perhaps their best pitcher. Morris has been disappointing and seems to be a better pitcher on the road than at home. Their bullpen is what has held them together, Tavarez, King and Klein (hurt) lead the pack. I'd look for the lefty King to be the guy to come in and pitch to Ortiz in a critical situation. Isringhausen has been the closer, and while he has Rivera type numbers he is not Mariano Rivera. His speed is not what it used to be and he walks batters. Their defense is superb, especially on the left side with Rolen and Renteria. Matheny is the best defensive catcher in the NL and is very good that throwing out runners. Walker, Pujols, Rolen, and Edmonds can bust a game wide open. They are patient hitters, who put the ball in play even when chasing bad pitches. Pujols especially is devastating, a line drive gap hitter who can also go deep to right. As a manager LaRussa does at times seem to second guess himself and overmanage a game by making too many changes. He is not a guy who will leave a pitcher in too long, and will always have guys warming up in the pen.
