I never understood how that worked out either. Johnson was out of options as far as I could tell, but still he was able to be sent down to Pawtucket without clearing waivers.
Rob Bradford on WEEI said that offer was turned down by the Sox (duh) but some other offshoot of the deal involving Hansen and Crisp could still be in the works.
Listening to WEEI and there's a lot of mention about Hansen now being involved and used as a trading chip. Any word on rumors that he's part of a deal?
Two articles in the Globe (Edes and Cafardo) suggest more and more it looks like the multi team deal involves Boston, Tampa Bay, and San Diego. In the end the Sox give up Lowell and prospects, and end up with Scott Linebrink and Julio Lugo.
Not that it was any big secret, but thanks to ESPN the Sox have basically exposed all of their flaws tonight on nationwide TV. That doesn’t help their bargaining position in any kind of deal.
