bREF likes his defense. FanGraphs does not. The swing between their WAR calcs for him is interesting for sure.

If he was our starting 3b/2b and we were up 3-0 in the WS, we wouldn't care either. MIL would be better off with Durbin though.

He’s basically been the same hitter in Milwaukee (OPS+ 80) as he was in Boston(OPS+ of 79).

But the grass is always greener…

Outperformed by the 2026 BOS 2b.

Boston had a 2b last year?

If you combine them all into a Frankenstein or an Igor or some conglomeration.

I'm still amazed by how many RS hate the guy.  He went from an outstanding 5.74 bWAR/650 PAs, to a good 3.35, and they turned on him.  He only has a 3.02/650 with Mil, and now they love him.  He's a top-tier super-sub, but doesn't hit 40 HRs.

We did get a 4.8/650 Durbin and a 1.9/650 Seigler in return.

I think I'd still rather have Seigler.

What blows my mind more than anything is MIL using him more at SS than 2B.

18 of em! (Hyperbole alert)

If Mayer wasn't moved to SS, he'd have led the team in innings at 2B, instead, Seigler did:

354 Seigler

342 Mayer

302 Sogard

283 IKF (Might have led the team had he not been hurt.)

109 Monasterio

44 Romy

4 Mead

Kiké 131

Chang 18

Reyes 196

Arroyo 442

Urias 208.2

Wong 5

Dalbec 1

Valdez 357

Rafaela 1

Team plays over 1,400 innings in a year, and no one played 400 at 2b?

4 over 280 innings is not easy to do.

Yup, and 2B has been a mess since Pedey. (A couple short stints by Story and Kike doesn't cut it.)

We gave up Sale to try and fix it (Grissom.)

We thought maybe Jeter Downs could settle at 2B (Betts)

We gave up Early for Mead.

Theres some Bad Juju between 1st and 2nd base at Fenway.  We need someone to perform an exorcism.  Or a jazzorcism, if need be…

The Mead injury after just 4 innings supports this Bad Juju position.

If they traded Pedey, they could have figured it out by now!

DD did have a good record with trades, but hardly any were trading away quality players.

Here are the top innings 2B since 2017:

I've often called it a circus carrousel... (100+ innings listed)

17: Pedey 834, Nunez 213, Holt 188, Rutledge 101

18: Nunez 627, Holt 445, Kinsler 298

19: Holt 469, Chavis 360, Marco 293, Nunez 204

20: Peraza 203, Arauz 119, Arroyo 109, Chavis 61

21: Arroyo 387, Kike 367, Marwin 259, Chavis 135, Iggy 123

22: Story 814, Arroyo 310, Yolmer 109 (Maybe the best in 10 yrs)

23: Arroyo 442, Valdez 357, Urias 209, Reyes 196, Kike 131

24: Valdez 468, DHam 267, Grissom 245, Romy 130, Westbrook 102 (Sogard 99)

25: KC 472, DHam 402, Romy 288, Rafaela 165

26: Seigler 354, Mayer 343, Sogard 302, IKF 284, Monasterio 109

Wow... what a drag!

Maybe we should snatch up Jazz Chisholm Jr.

I kinda like Mead, but he may be best at DH (or 1B.)

I'm not sure Sato would be any better on 2B defense, but he might be the best offensive add of the winter. He may not cost as much as others.

BLowe sucks vs LHPs, but has 66HRs and 115 XBHs in the last 2 years (1091 ABs)

Chisholm has hit 19>24>31>19 HRs in the last 4 yrs, but 48 XBHs in 532 PAs, this year is not a big power bat. Which Chisholm shows up in 2027? He's only 29. The year he hit 31 HRs, he only had 47 XBHs in 531 PAs, so that's about the norm on XBHs for him. Not bad- but not really what we need.

Torres has hit under .745 in 3 straight years- averaging 16 HRs and 41 XBHs per 162 games.

Arraez had a sort of resurgence this year, but .765 and very little power is not what we need. Sure, he'll be only 30, bats LH'd and gets on base well, but no thanks. He's not good on D either.

I'd prefer we add at SS or DH/LF (trade Duran,) but DH/2B (trade Story) might be third.

I would put him in the short list of interesting free agents, especially since early reports have NY not offering a QO…

I hope I'm right about Mead, but I'm thinking he could blast off next season.

I am going to assume Duran is elsewhere.  Surprisingly I’m not sure non-tendering him is off the table.  But I think it’s more likely he gets dealt for something fairly minimal.  Anthony/Rafaela/Abreu take the OF.

The Sox aren’t adding a SS if Arias is untouchable (or close to it).  Most likely we see Story (until injury) and then Arias.

DH or 2b seem like most likely adds, depending where Mead plays.  And I’m assuming Yoshida gets DFAd…

Didn’t you think little A would blast off this past season as many others did?🤔

I thought there was a pretty good chance he would. I thought .800 was better than 50-50, and he nearly reached that.

I had no idea how many games he'd play or miss. Did you?

Ah yes the OPS the answers to everything. Since I wasn’t counting on anything from little A to begin with I didn’t even think about how many games he’d play, because I really didn’t care.

Yes, I think Duran is gone. I hope so, too. I would not pay him $11M, but someone will, so he'll be traded.

Yes, Brez will go with Story and add Arias to the roster whenever Story gets hurt or has sucked for long enough (May?) IMO, I'd trade Arias for a SS, and next winter Red will be saying I over-hyped Arias.

No Duran means our big add will be LF/DH or 2B/DH.

Maybe Arozarena or Sato, who would be more of a FT DH, unless we think he can play 2B better than Mead.

That might be all we do. One significant but not mega move. Maybe we add some SP'er and pen depth but not someone like Morejon or Nick Martinez good.

You sure seem to care for someone that doesn't care.

OPS is the easy measure, but in no way was I saying his close to .800 OPS made me right or was okay. Roman came up way short.
