In the one game playoff between the Red Sox and the Yankees, did either team take advantage of the expanded rosters on Sep 1?

From what I understand, everyone on the 40 man roster could have been eligible to play in that final regular season game.  I know the Red Sox had rookie Bobby Sprowl start 3 games in September, but were there other players who could have been available for that final game or during September?

The Red Sox had 34 players accrue MLB stats in 1978 and the Yankees had 41, though both teams did not use that many players in the final game; The Yankees used 15 and the Red Sox used 17.

Per the rules at the time, it was technically a regular season game, not a one game playoff.  Regular season rules applied (including expanded rosters) and stats counted towards 1978 season totals, not postseason…

Pawtucket had these decent numbers:

2.91 Check Rainet (170 IP)

3.09 John Tudor (105)

3.18 Joel Finch (167)

1.60 John LaRose (73 and 15 svs)

_______________

.913 Gary Allenson

.844 Dave Coleman

.782 Garry Hancock

.725 Dave Stapleton

I'm pretty sure we played our best players and would not have thrust one of these guys into such a key game.

Maybe, just maybe, NcNamara shouldn't have leaned on and used the former Met Schiraldi in game 6 and 7.

Shag Crawford saved them in Anaheim, pitching out of a bases loaded none out ham allowing only the tying run in a clinch game for the Angels.  Yet no love in the Wilorkd Series after that impressive ALCS.  Granted it could have been a more impressive ALCS if maybe Shag didn’t load the bases with no one out in the first place..
