I know.

The Sox abysmal season is not from a lack of trying from the FO, like 2019 was.  Or 2022.   The Sox actually tried building on a successful season for once.  And ironically THAT is what sets people off…

The bottom line is that the Bloom-Breslow years have largely been very disappointing and often very boring.  Both of them made some good moves but far too many bad ones.

Not getting a big bat in the middle of the order, and a 5 man rotation for 4 spots of DH/OF looks even worse now than before the season even started. Add to Mayer’s, and especially little Anthony not living up to expectations along with Duran’s troubles, and you are despite some pretty good pitching what your record says you are, which is pretty much being the lowest scoring team in baseball with a 7 games under 500 record. B O R I N G!

Or non moves. Saying you need to add a righty power bat and trying to land one just isn't good enough. How many companies in how many industries tolerate an employee who tries to do his job but fails?

Teams are competing to create the most colorful posters. New York and LA always buy the most expensive varieties of Magic Markers (but the Mets spilled water on theirs). John Henry is in, but only gives Brez enough to buy a pencil.

"But if he presses hard enough," lies Sam at the press conference, "it will look darker -- especially when the sun shines brighter in the summer."

No, you want the team to be run your way.   Not the same and certainly not always best.

Your new tactic of cheering against the team isn’t going to convince the owner to sign any more expensive player just because it appears to be a fit.  The notion of not signing Alonso makes more sense than not because teams have to consider the entire length of the deal and thought Alonso wouldn’t be worth it in just a few years.  (And he hasn’t been so far.)

Henry isn’t selling.  The Sox are part of a lucrative multi-sport franchise.  Breslow might not be the guy to build a competitive team under the new rules, but those rules do appear to prohibit just throwing money at every quick fix, especially since it often means turning a short term solution into a long term problem.  And in many ways, thats a sensible approach…

Feel free to cheer on these losers. I won't. Henry will likely not be selling the team but we will not win another ring with him as owner, and you can take that to the bank. As for cheering for them to lose-it has nothing to do with signing more talented players than the BUMS we did sign. It has to do with getting better draft picks. Since this season is already lost (AGAIN) lets do what is best for the future of the team, and in this case it means losing as many games as possible.

I think several recent winters crossed the line significantly more than this one, but the cumulative effect is real.

The reason this season crossed the line is that the potential was there to compete for a ring, and because the owner is a cheapskate and the GM is incompetent we lost that chance.
