Mayer needs some help. He needs to try and go back up the middle.

He pulls out with an upward swing taking his head off the pitch, popping up foul outs or complete misses.

Looking at the easy fly ball that was dropped by Abreu, Rafaela raises his glove just as Abreu was making catch.  I bet Abreu saw that in his peripheral vision and that caused the drop.
